I don't understand how people want slower campaign gameplay, it essentially devolves into: Doing Nothing Because You Have No Money: The Game While the AI rapes your ass at the same rate
Creative Assembly devs teaching a Youtube LPer how to play FotS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9C1k4_n7X_I&feature=youtu.be The funniest thing so far is how the guy has grey hair but sounds like he's 15

I was thinking about the future of the series and where development will lead. Battlemap-wise it's pretty clear: At some point trees, buildings and all that stuff will become physics objects, soil will move and that jazz. Now in regards to world-map the next big step is probably the move from number-based representation of inhabitants to "real" people. Much like SimCity does right now. Of course that's 20 years or so away but it WILL happen.

Alright, I think I'm going to write a short story about my Napoleon: Total War experience while playing with a emergent nation. It's a story with war, diplomacy, backstabbing, bribery, majestic battles and corrupt nations! Would anyone be interested in reading it, if I were to write it? (no screenshots though)
Does the pope shit in the woods?
Does the pope shit in the woods?
I thought he used his hat.
I thought he used his hat.
Only on fridays.
First time E:TW player, is the road to independence any good or should I just go for grand campaign?
I suggest playing it. I had fun. Well maybe not the first 2 parts but once you play the colonies it gets really atmospheric.
First time E:TW player, is the road to independence any good or should I just go for grand campaign?
RoI is great if you are new. The first few chapters are basically tutorials and are impossible to fail so you'll get a good feel for how ETW plays out. The final chapter(which is grand campaign as America) is somewhat short compared to regular grand campaign but it's fun nevertheless
Wow those are some great looking Gauls. I hope they still they look as good crushed under Roman sandals.
is it me or the guy in the middle looks like a fat fuck
is it me or the guy in the middle looks like a fat fuck
He's full from the fear of his enemies.
I can't believe we are at a point where there are thousands of those on the screen. Also the amounts of art assets, from the cold British islands to the desert of Egypt, this game will be HUGE. 40GB called it.

I believe Shogun II can hit something like seventy-thousand maximum?
Are there any visual overhauls for Rome? I just installed it again.
is it me or the guy in the middle looks like a fat fuck
Fat is better armor than muscle. But only if you're under 250 LBS, after that it becomes overburdening.
Also hes probably not fat, the stuff hes wearing is probably padded or baggy.
Empire+Shogun 2 are some of those games that REALLY profit from sitting on an SSD.
Also hes probably not fat, the stuff hes wearing is probably padded or baggy.
Could be both.
Empire+Shogun 2 are some of those games that REALLY profit from sitting on an SSD.
Yeah and that's all that can sit on an SSD
The House of Savoy. A city nation in South Europe, just below Switzerland and surrounded by Milan to the East and France to the West. This is before Italy’s unification, so it’s naturally not the only Italian city-state in Europe at the time. Anyways. I’ve always liked the idea of playing the underdog. You know – why play with the mighty France and crush everyone when you can play with the measly Denmark and desperately fight to keep your one or two territories, enjoying every win against the big empires, having ridiculous last-stand battles and barely surviving – it’s fun! I had attempted something like this a while ago with Denmark exactly. I made the mistake of playing on Very Hard though, which meant that while I could balance my country’s income to keep it afloat (along with supporting a navy and an army), every single nation declared war on me. I was playing an alternate history where the Napoleonic wars ended and an alliance was formed between EVERY European country to crush the Northern annoyance I was becoming. So this time, I decided to play on Hard with battles on Very Hard to make sure that I won’t end up (historically inaccurately) swarmed by the world. Alright, we’re on, I quietly murmured while choosing the nation. Playing with Denmark was pretty much the same as playing with one of the big guys, except small-scale – you can still easily make a sizable force, navy, research. Not the case with Savoy though – you start out with one territory – Torino. It has no building and just a single buildable slot, no standing army, no navy, nothing. I thought about choosing a different nation for a couple of seconds, but finally decided that I’ll instead bend the game and manage to make this a prosperous nation. Right then and there, I had no idea what and where I’ll reach in my bid for existence! I never dreamed of world domination (despite putting it as the time limit) I immediately kicked out half of the current ministers and replaced them with better qualified ones. I built up a small merchant navy and had the decency to capture a couple of highly paid trading routes, securing a nice 6000/turn income. I started upgrading the dockyard, built a small star fort around my city and expanded the gold mine that was in my territory. I made some alliances – with Venice, Catalonia and Switzerland and organized trading routes between me and every country I could. Purposefully, I decided against forging alliances with any empires – my logic was that as a small and weak nation, I’d prefer to stay out of the war for as long as possible. This thinking served me well. I also built a court in the empty space in my city. This is exactly when it dawned to me that until I capture a couple of territories, I won’t be able to make more than ONE building. And furthermore, I could only recruit militia – I didn’t have any military buildings! How am I to wage war when I can produce only armed villagers?! Back to the drawing board. Regretfully, I demolished the courtroom and built in its place a barracks… Huzzah! Units! Well… Line infantry only and Light Hussars really, but it’s still an army! I immediately turned my gaze to see which countries I could invade: My allies were out of the question – they were close by and I didn’t want to be thrown in a war with THEIR allies. Milan was an obvious choice, but from what I could see, they had at least three times as big of an army as me, so this was out as well. My only other options were either France, which would've been plain stupid and… I noticed the not-so-small island of Sardinia to the South of me. The country didn't have any allies and had a standing army of just 5 line infantry units. A transport navy was duly created (trading ships that were to be commissioned merchant jobs after completing their line of duty) and a four star general hired. He turned out to be a bit of a loony and I had to fire him after the “campaign”. Anyways – when my ships were approaching the Sardinia shores, I declared war to them and swiftly besieged the capital city. I decided I'd wait them out to attack me, because I'm not really good at taking cities. They promptly did that in a couple of turns. They crashed in my (not particularly) well laid out defense which consisted of an inverse wedge which was supposed to trap their forces in a crossfire, but they managed to break through it and only some swift cavalry work ensured my Pyrrhic victory. As my forces were entering the city, I briefly thought about freeing the island as my protectorate, but dismissed the thought after realizing I needed all the buildings I could get my hands on…
This is the first part of the story - so far it looks like it'll end up being somewhere around 10 parts long, which is nice I guess. I really hope you enjoy my detached style and excuse the artistic license. (not everything will be 100% the same as ingame to make it more interesting) Any thoughts?
Format it. A block of text like that really hurts the eyes. That said, looking forward to this.
Will it be part written, part screenshot or is it all text?
