is there really only going to be 8 factions in the new rome?
As far as playable factions I assume so. Thinking about it 8 seems like a good number. (quality over quantity)
I'd rather they had it like Paradox does, they focus on a bunch of countries but let you play as any. I find it insane how I have to buy DLC to unlock factions (and a bunch of modders are wary about unlocking some themselves in case it becomes DlC).
Well at least the factions won't all be identical. [sp]*cough* Shogun 2 *cough*[/sp] And Rome 1 has 9 playable factions (if you count the three families as one) so it's not that bad. It will be like Rome 1 but with minor factions instead of rebels. But if they do like S2TW with a ton of DLC and exclusive factions depending on where you pre-order the game I think I'll wait for the gold edition.
If I remember correctly isn't each main faction subdivided into several families with different benefits?

Ugh burly men covered in hair. I can't wait.

Cries for TF2 hats.
Where is Egypt? Certainly they don't plan to just have 3 civilized empires.
Have they actually said there'll only be 8 factions? It does say at the bottom of the faction page, "The information and imagery on this page show work-in-progress Total War: Rome II™ content, and may be subject to change," which, to me, suggests that they'll add more.

You insulted my ancestors! Actually you insulted 40-60% of Europe's ancestors, so I guess that not a big deal. Also some history on Berserkers: The word Berserk comes from two old Norse words that translates roughly to Bear cloak or Bear shirt, which is what the Berserkers would commonly wear. There's also another variant called Úlfhéðnar who are mentioned in old Norse literature, it is said that they wear wolf pelts as opposed to bear pelts and are the chosen of Odin, or Woden I guess in the case of the Suebi. I like me some B.C. history. [editline]15th February 2013[/editline]
Last two factions are probably going to be Ptolemaic Egypt and some East European faction like the Dacians, Thracians, or Pontus.
I hope Greece is in too, I know Macedonia will just kick their ass, but I'd still like them.
I'm somewhat disappointed that the Greek Cities or Sparta haven't shown up yet. I was never really a fan of Macedon. [editline]15th February 2013[/editline] And you can really see the pre and post Marius reform look of the Roman units, I like it.
I bet only thing that ruins this game is how city building will be oh so horrendeus Empire/Napoleon/Shogun 2 style.
I bet only thing that ruins this game is how city building will be oh so horrendeus Empire/Napoleon/Shogun 2 style.
I preferred Empire's building to the previous games. Only being able to build one building in a region annoys me now when I play Rome and M2.

Do you guys think we'll get Parthia? I'm getting worried...
man, I hope we'll get the Lusithanians as a playable iberian faction. Trying to take back land from the carthaginians ought to be fun.

Oh my God that looks amazing. Was that wildlife in the fourth picture? Good God.
I need this game now
I need this game now
I don't. I still have to build my ridiculously overpowered and likely overpriced gaming computer to do this game proper justice.
I could barely run Shogun 2. There's no way I could run this.
I could barely run Shogun 2. There's no way I could run this.
They said they "hope" to have the same minimum requirements as Shogun II. But if you can barely handle that, don't hold your breath.
Hell I don't care. I'll set my bird in a gerbil wheel 24 hours a day if thats what it takes to get the processing power to run this game
I could barely run Shogun 2. There's no way I could run this.
Did you try using the performance mod in the link I posted a page back? http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=486474

[editline]15th February 2013[/editline] And you can really see the pre and post Marius reform look of the Roman units, I like it.
Greek City-States will more than likely show up; although from what I've heard (and going off the general feel of Rome 2) you'll be able to play the individual cites themselves instead of just one generic "Greek Faction" (whether that means you can only choose between Sparta and Athens, or Sparta/Athens/Thebes/Corinth remains to be seen.) Also that Lorica Segmentata armor is beautiful, reminds me of when I'd make Legionary Cohort blobs once the Marian reforms kicked in. You know, I never got a feel for the old Rome, and I wasn't feeling a whole lot of hype for Rome II. The least I can say now is, consider me hyped.
You know, I never got a feel for the old Rome, and I wasn't feeling a whole lot of hype for Rome II. The least I can say now is, consider me hyped.
Every time I got into Rome it got to the point where I or my main army was suddenly UTTERLY VANQUISHED by a string of events. Fucking Macedonians and their elite Phalanx shit with even more men that usual. I was playing as the Greeks one time (out of 10 with 9 Roman campaigns that ended after wiping the nearest faction out) and suddenly they got a steep hill when I was fighting their homeland army and I realized how good their phalanx men were compared to mine.
Wow I'm shocked you can't use ninjas in defense siege battles in FOTS. It would be really useful later in the game when your adversaries catch on to using artillery guns in large amounts that send your men flying all over the goddamn place.
