I wish it was so much easier to find a game in Shogun 2's Avatar conquest... It takes like. 10-20 minutes just to find a game that I can actually enjoy
Even worse as a low level searching for Naval Battles.
Thankfully I found one today and soon after I unlocked these guys.

They come as Veterans, which is odd. Does that mean I lose them forever if they get wiped out? because that would really suck.

Lucky fucker, all I have are these shitty white bears.
(However I wiped out an army of ashigaru twice my size earlier to get them, shit was jokes.)

Machurock katchi!
I caved and bought Fall of the Samurai.
OH MY GOD 30GB.
Seriously, what do they do to their games that make them take up so much space? MTW2 was two DVDs plus another 11gb or so for Kingdoms, ETW was 24gb.
It's because Fall of the Samurai is a integrated into Total War: SHOGUN 2, so you'll need to download that at the same time. I only have to download 4 gigs after I bought it because of that.
I've finished 2 campaigns on the Empire side. Really liking this game so far. I also like the new version of Realm Divide.

It's certainly much more forgiving.
Finally got my hands on a retail copy of Fall of the Samurai. Didnt have to download that 5 gig patch after all. Was just a 100mb one that joined the games together or something. Something to do tonight yay!

I kinda preferred it when everyone turned against you. By that point your pretty much a economic and military machine anyway so it adds a bit of challenge having everyone unite against your clan.

You can always choose to take over Japan yourself. It has the same effect from what I've been told.
I spent 120 turns sitting in the same 4 provinces just building.
Then quite suddenly, I invaded the Obama clan with a blitzkrieg force. They lost 3 coastal cities in a single turn as each one had the shit bombed out of it, followed by an army of parrott or armstrong guns pulverizing the defending troops with naval support.
I had a battle with 800 against 3000 of the shogunate forces. The shogunate lost 2200, I lost 0. I sent in Ishin Shishi secret police in a group of 5 to murder every general/geisha/enemy agent they can find.
I destroyed their entire naval force in a battle using 2 ironclads.
This isn't war, this is a cleaning operation.
I hate that goddamn Shogunate clan on the north third of Honshu, they went to war with me after allying myself with all of the imperial clans and now they're bombing my trade ports at sea but walking right into all of my bullets on land. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of getting most of my money from trade, so I can't recruit any more units to actually move in and do shit. Now I need to excessively cut corners just to make 100 per turn.
Fortunately, all of their ships are wood-clad and I have a port on a north-west island they aren't bombing, so I should be able to fix most of this with 2 or 3 upper-tier ironclads.
What's wrong with Shogun 2. Even with low settings, I get small stutters. Like, the FPS goes smoothly but every couple of seconds it "hick-ups" a little and it breaks the smoothness. It doesn't matter whether the settings are on low or on ultra, it still does tiny stutters every couple of seconds with otherwise smooth FPS. And it seems to be a common problem.
Surely this setup should be able to run it without stutters on lowest settings? Not to mention high.
Athlon II X4 620
Geforce 560Ti
8gb of RAM
It even happens in the main menu.
I don't know... the performance in Shogun 2 has always been really questionable to me. I can never trust it to stay in one place, even in what would seem to be ideal conditions.
Haven't installed FOTS yet, but does anyone have a list of the bonuses each clan has in the game?
Played against my friend who has Fall of the Samurai, I don't (not yet) and there is only one word that comes to mind when fighting guns with swords:
Rape.
You can effectively beat the shit out of any wooden ship with explosive rounds

Same thing just happened to me, a 10 minute or so standoff between my line infantry and his katanas (Neither of us wanted to get too close).
He decided to fuck it and charge everything, meaning he was in range and they opened fire...
I have never seen men drop and rout so fucking quickly. The general died in one barrage.
Archers outrange guns right?
A loose formation of archers should be able to fight a skirmish with muskets long enough to have your sword units rush in.
Same here, Ive played 3 times against people who don't have FOTS, and everytime I have won.
Perhaps my most memorable moment was a period of tension where a unit of Yari Cavalry was about to charge over a small hill to attack 2 units of White Bear Infantry, I tried to move them up a bit, he moved, I stopped and then he tried to charge.
Not one man reached their lines.

Not really, guns do far more damage and mess up morale more. A single arrow volley from a unit of Ashigaru Archers will likely kill 2-3 men, whereas a unit of White Bear Infantry will likely kill 6-10. The Samurai also have less men, so there really is no competition. And beating Sword units is just a case of pulling back that unit and having another unit with guns fire at them as they chase the retreating unit.

Bows and arrows are obsolete as hell in FOTS.
I got utterly destroyed by arrows in a multiplayer siege, I think he might have even been using a Shogun 2 army. He stood just out of range of my walls and rained fire on my troops and fortifications until there was nothing but a burnt out husk of some walls and buildings full of crispy line infantry.
Me and a friend are having a blast on Co-op campaign.
Is there a way to make a multiplayer campaign were you dont start off allied or at war? I'd rather pick and choose how to deal with my friend, or be an ass and invade him when he things we're friends.

That's sad. Hell this whole problem is sad. Wouldn't have bought the game if I knew it's so shittily optimized. Gotta find a way to stop the stutter spikes or it's wasted money.

For me I get the stuttering when I stand still for a few seconds on Fast and Very Fast, is that how it is for you as well, or even worse?

to be honest, i'd prefer the white bear over the super cost of the marines. every army i've faced with them i've managed to shoot down with white bear.
also holy shit FALL OF THE SAMURAI IS AMAZING

No, as I said, I get small hiccups/freezes every few seconds that last for a fraction of a second, and the framerate between those is smooth. But those hiccups are annoying/distracting as fuck, happen both in battles and even in the main menu, and on both lowest and highest settings.

My hardware is worse than yours and i have no stuttering. Maybe there's a tweak somewhere found by the community?
Man, I am terrible with the off-map naval bombardments. I never time them right.
