That horrid map and city/fort building from Empire: Total War should never return. Conquer one city, France surrenders/destroyed.
What I meant was Empire's size, not the actual map. Something like DLV's map is what I want to see more of in TW. For example, England is no longer 2 cities, Italy is broken up into smaller pieces, Spain no longer 2 cities + Portugal etc
How big is Medieval 2 alone? Tempted to install it again but I dont have much GB left on my hard drive (5GB) I just love total war games and I wish I could have all of them on here but the size of them makes my hard drive cry :suicide:
something like 13 gig i think.
The Whole World: Total War
Set in "all of history everywhere ever..." I would be so game!
Fuckin' Dinosaur: Total war FUCK NAVAL BOMBARDMENTS, ASTEROIDS!
Fuckin' Dinosaur: Total war FUCK NAVAL BOMBARDMENTS, ASTEROIDS!
Dinosaur drop pod bombardments
oh man, this is bullshit I spotted a single ship carrying an invasion force to my capital's island (Tosa.) They were in range of some allies, so when I went into battle, it was a Kotetsu and an armored Kasuga on my side vs. a single wooden Kasuga carrying the army, and five Kaiyo Maru in reinforcements. I defeated the army-carrying Kasuga, and watched it sink completely before retreating from the battlefield. next turn they landed their army anyway because the Kasuga survived with no hull points and no crew members fuck you game
How worthwhile is it to get Shogun 2, along with Fall of the Samurai? I watched some Let's Plays of it and Creative Assembly has really ironed out any of the issues with rank fire (still remember the days in Medieval 2 with the Musketmen.) Am I better off sticking with Empire, get Napoleon, or buy Shogun 2, or even wait until their next game comes out (which'll definitely be a while.)

However, unit homogenization might turn you off - there's very little difference between each faction's unit roster, making battles a little bit more formulaic. Fall of the Samurai is a lot of fun, and I'd say has the best campaign of the series (allowing you to join giant alliances and have a huge, final war, or declare independence and try to fend off every other faction in the game,) as well as a lot of novel gameplay coming from inventions like gatling guns. FotS has a huge unit roster - even though factions still largely get the same units, you can recruit from a variety of old-style Samurai or develop down the lines of modern warfare. Unfortunately, end-game battles boil down to whoever has the most armstrong guns. Empire has very solid, well-balanced battles, but the scope of the campaign can be a bit of a headache, especially if you've got overseas colonies to worry about. Naval combat, though a spectacle, is mostly a pain in the ass. However, Empire gets a lot of bonus points from having a good selection of quality mods. Building an empire is very rewarding given the scope of the task. Napolean features a lot of improvements to the battle system, but where Empire's campaign is too large, Napolean's campaigns are too small. Personally, I'd go for Empire first, as the original is just much more open. If you like guns, get FotS. If you like smooth, balanced gameplay, get Shogun 2. If you're feeling ambitious, get Empire. Get Napolean when you get bored of Empire.

It's silly.
Should I install Rome or Shogun 2? Whichever I don't install I'll install later in the month.
I would install Rome first seeing as Shogun 2 will take about a month to install anyways.
Should I install Rome or Shogun 2? Whichever I don't install I'll install later in the month.
Better install Rome first or you'll never be able to follow the story in Shogun.
Having another empire total war scaled game but set during the 1860's and onwards would be pretty awesome. There could be the civil war, the african colonial wars, Franco Prussian war, etc. [editline]12th April 2012[/editline]
Yeah i hate how retreating counts as losing.
Having another empire total war scaled game but set during the 1860's and onwards would be pretty awesome. Would be pretty cool, especially if it's on a massive scale.
I dislike playing as large nations. I loved starting out as small one or two-province nations in Rome and Shogun 2. Medieval 2 doesn't give you much of a choice about it.
Should I install Rome or Shogun 2? Whichever I don't install I'll install later in the month.
I have all the Total War games and S2 is by far my favorite. They did the best job with everything in it, especially Fall of the Samurai. Although most of it has to do with the new engine, I still think I like the action of the vanilla S2 and FotS better than Rome, even if Rome 2 came out as their next title. Rome is more interesting to study, but it is far more enjoyable to have a unit of samurai charge into gunfire and still win.
I do love me some Rome, but I haven't tried Shogun 2 yet. I think I'll go with Shogun 2.
I dislike playing as large nations. I loved starting out as small one or two-province nations in Rome and Shogun 2. Medieval 2 doesn't give you much of a choice about it.
venice is pretty small when you start out

Does the mod Third Age: Total War alter any base game files? I'm just asking to see if I should delete the backup setup files for M2TW in order to install the mod. It has a MASSIVE filesize. I don't want M2TW going haywire on me then having to download it again due to the lack of backups.
venice is pretty small when you start out
So true. My first campaign was with venice and I remember being instantly attacked by the byzantines. It did not go well.
Having another empire total war scaled game but set during the 1860's and onwards would be pretty awesome. There could be the civil war, the african colonial wars, Franco Prussian war, etc.
Well the problem is that those kinds of wars don't just happen in Total War games, unless the game itself is centered upon it (example: Napoleon).
i don't understand people who complain about the pope in medieval II that implies you're not playing as Egypt and training up a billion assassins to assassinate that fucker every turn that dude's had so many crossbow bolts go through his hat i'm surprised they haven't spent their entire treasury on milliners e: also you get to build a hashashin's guild if you do it enough which owns because you're basically getting a warehouse full of stoned Altairs
Hungary always had the best assassins plus you could field battlefield assassins which rape everyone and their mother.
wow my faction heir's son has more stars then his grandfather M2:TW btw

You have to make a new mod folder and rename it to one of the default expansions.
holy fuck i made the pope excommunicate sicily in less then 12 turns, now im blocking all their dumb ports.
Sarge? Are they gonna kill us?
has anyone got a control set up for Medieval 2 that is similar to Empire/Shogun 2/ Napoleon's setup? I really do not like the control set up and I have no idea which controls to change considering around 4 of them do the same thing... [editline]13th April 2012[/editline] okay I switched the controls to the FPS style one, it helps
