I didn't even know they were firing. It was a siege and I sent six companies of swords with ladders forward, the ballista was only there in case they held the walls. Then a group of spearmen came out of the main gate and I sent King Richard XXVIII (Or whatever his name was) to deal with that. The ballista hit him at the worst possible moment. I swear, Medieval 2 wants me to lose.
why would you send horsemen to deal with Spearmen anyway?
why would you send horsemen to deal with Spearmen anyway?
It was just some unarmored Town Militia, not much of a threat. Plus they had their backs turned.
....My king just ran in front of my ballista as it fired. The Medieval 2 AI hates me I suppose.
The AI just likes doing that. I had the Turks' sultan be the first man to die in a siege when he charged into a gap in my wall created by their mass catapults, only to be hit by the next wave of artillery.

So forcing a Genoan army away from Cagliari caused them to pass through a Papal army(my bros). This in turn somehow caused them to be excommunicated and now everyone is swooping into northern Italy to grab a piece of Milan. Took the opportunity of increased movement during a crusade to sail up and grab Genoa while they desperately try to reinforce Milan. Gonna be decimated by rampaging crusaders all over 2 pavise crossbowmen and a catapult moving through a Papal army.

My game has the exact same placements of the exact same factions+armies in that image, except that rome belongs to me (venice)
I was playing Shogun 2 and I saw this nice opportunity for a picture. It's 1920x1080 if anyone wants to use it as a wallpaper for some reason. In case anyone is wondering, it's my Nanban trade ship wiping out a Wako fleet. Ninjas dominate in FotS... [t]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/542925143297845218/5A1014907B92A791EF19DA878C3005E4F3B0F71F/[/t]
I keep losing them in sieges. So godamn useful to have but also so easy to lose them. But they can take out1 or 2 levies so that's pretty good.
So i have shogun 2 installed, just installed last night. But every time i start it up, it shows first time startup installing direct x. and then nothing happens the launching shogun 2 box disapears and nothing happens ive been searching around on forums for about 2 hours, and ive verified integrity all that but still dont work, could anyone help me? [editline]20th April 2012[/editline] Nvm fixed it
I keep losing them in sieges. So godamn useful to have but also so easy to lose them. Ill take 2 units of discounted Royal Marines over cowardly retards who can't so much as throw a bomb in less than 2 seconds anyday.

You're not supposed to get them in melee EVER. You're supposed to trick the enemy into sending one unit of something away from their main force and then hit it and get away before any support shows up. By the way, this thread is semi-active, but the group is pathetically empty. You should join it: http://bit.ly/J0losE

They can sneak up and take out defending levy so that your main force can move in. Their grenades are so fucking great. It's hard to not use them.
We need Zulu: Total War. Command African tribes, then try not to get buttfucked by colonialists.
We need Zulu: Total War. Command African tribes, then try not to get buttfucked by colonialists.
there's a mod for zulu and brits for napoleon: total war
Welp, my campaign as Venice is going well. Took some rebel territories and attacked Milan. I now have Genoa and Milan itself but they're still kicking. Of course next turn the Pope gives me a mission to not attack Milan AFTER I already have attacked it and instantly fail. Also how do I build an army for the Crusades? Can I just make some craptastic army and will that do?

Was doing good in my shogun 2 campaign playing the people that have good archers. i was about 10 years into my campaign or something, and all of the sudden almost every faction declared war on me and i lost all my cities
Am I the only one that thinks the FoTS sieges are really a lot harder?
Am I the only one that thinks the FoTS sieges are really a lot harder?
I usually attack from all sides. Still lose some units, but it's way more effective, especially if the defender only has a few ranged units (they'll only be able to defend against one force).
I just blast the fortress with a full army of cannons until everyone inside is dead.
Am I the only one that thinks the FoTS sieges are really a lot harder?
Yes and no. Specialized units help a ton. I usually end up using sharpshooters to soften up the gate defenders or to keep them distracted and then burn down that or an undefended gate. After that i bring melee units and then gun units. I pretty much repeat then for every level. I found climbing the walls results in too many casualties or simply a defeat because your troops suck at melee combat unless they are in proper formation. With cannons it's even easier obviously. I only lose a fourth of my troops on a not too bad siege assault.
I just blast the fortress with a full army of cannons until everyone inside is dead.
I love how in FPS mode with exploding shells you can hit the very bottom of the wall and still get kills. This + naval bombardments usually leaves nothing in the fortress for me to fight
Are there any great mods for E:TW I should download? Just decided to boot it up and realized how shitty the UI is(really? I can't build all province improvements from the capital city interface?!). I like the period, but I want it fleshed out a bit more. More units, more buildings, AI improvements, etc.
Just finished a short campaign in Shogun 2 as Shimazu, just finished as in getting twenty-five provinces. At that point however all the remaining clans were at war with me but I didn't want to fight any more but still wanted to play. Solution? Throw my family at them! For some reason, Shimazu couples fuck like rabbits, and by the time I got the twenty-five provinces I literally had more than twenty kids from only five couples. Seeing as they are perfectly expendable (what's a human?), I just threw them at the other clans. Here Oda, have a six year old girl in return for a peace deal and trade agreement! What's that Takeda, you won't take only one hostage? Here, I'll throw in another pre-teen for you! What floats your boat Chosokabe? A magnificent fourteen year old in exchange for an alliance and trade agreement? Why not? Oh and you Honma and Hojo, I have at least ten more to give away so why dont you take your pick? Free kids for everyone! ... Too bad next turn Oda declared war on me again and the other factions all joined them back in the war of which that peace didn't even last a season. All my hostages got executed as well. Fuck. [editline]23rd April 2012[/editline] Anyways tried to get back into Medieval 2, but to be honest I just got bored of it. Too much micro-management, I prefer to sit back and enjoy the big picture (oh, and the battles feel so messy in it). Might do another Shogun 2 campaign, but split on which to do this time. So what do you lot think? Uesugi, Hattori or Ikko Ikki?
We need Zulu: Total War. Command African tribes, then try not to get buttfucked by colonialists.
that would be pretty cool. also Awesome historical battles. Like the Battle for Rorkes Drift (the one from the 1964 film "Zulu) and the Battle of Isandlwana (the Second Zulu film) Seriously I would love to Recreate those moments. [editline]23rd April 2012[/editline]
there's a mod for zulu and brits for napoleon: total war
-snip- found it http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=368178 It looks really neat, Gonna try it out once I get Napoleon finished downloading [editline]23rd April 2012[/editline] In over news: I got my 2TB hard drive today Installing Every Single Total war Game

Oh and play Uesugi. If you keep Date on your good side you can steam roll down the island.

Units replenish automatically for free 3. There's only one type of settlement, meaning your troops aren't limited to retraining at either a castle or town (worst part of Med2) 4. No pope 5. Diplomacy makes more sense 6. AI cheats less blatantly 7. Autoresolve is a thousand times more forgiving 8. Map is smaller, and narrow, meaning you're not surrounded by enemies on every side 100% of the time 9. Ninjas replace assassins and spies and are way better in both areas 10. Naval combat isn't limited to the brutal autoresolve 11. Every faction gets identical unit trees 12. General upgrades aren't random
Hurray for simpicity! ... I want complexity. Damn these dumbed down games that exists in these dark days.
Well, some people like complexity in Total War, just in different areas. Remember that Total War is 2 different sub-genres put together. The turn based portion has become less complex, definitely, but the real time part has added explosives and capture points and shit. Plus, even with the simplified campaign Shogun 2 is still possibly the most in depth Strategy game this year.
(oh, and the battles feel so messy in it)
This is exactly what I hate about Med 2, especially during those DESERT-SAND-DUNE-CLIFF BATTLES with LOTS OF OBSTACLES AND HORSE ARCHERS EVERYWHERE BEING MICROMANAGED BY THE AI WHILE YOU MICROMANAGE YOUR LIMITED LIGHT CAVALRY CHASING THEM THEN YOU RUN OUT OF CAVALRY SO YOU CHASE THEM WITH SPEARMEN FOR THIRTY MINUTES UNTIL YOU CORNER THEM THEN YOU SUDDENLY REALIZE THAT YOUR HEAVY INFANTRY THAT WEREN'T BEING MICROMANAGED BY YOU WERE BEING RAPED BY HEAVY CAVALRY ALREADY. OH AND YOUR HEAVY CAVALRY CAN'T MOVE BECAUSE THEY WERE DEPLOYED IN A BUGGED AREA. God, you can't even play one battle with a full stack where you don't have to pause your game every five seconds. I'd love to play Shogun 2 if not for the fact that my laptop can't take the load even with MSI Afterburner overclocking and Gamebooster. I can get about 6-10 FPS in sieges and 11-14 in battles with long loading times. But at least it has faster turns than Empire. Is there some way to revert the shader version like how I reverted the shader model from 2 to 1 in Med2? How do you degrade S2TW graphics?
