Total War Megathread V.2: "All of Christendom Will be Awed by this Megathread!"

Just realized I've made a potentially game-ruining mistake in Empire: Total War, playing as Britain.
Got a large army comprised of mainly Line Infantry and Militia (more line infantry though) and some cavalry and shipped them all off to India (basically at the start of the campaign). My goal is to conquer India and basically use it as a huge source of income, it's easily defensible once I have the whole map, because I can just place some frontier forts near the Persian border and have a big navy to defend against any incoming ships.
Meanwhile, in America, I'm waging a war against the Cherokee bastards. I decided to try and fulfill the objectives to acquire the American colonies over there. What I've come to realize is I've sent a lot of my men (who are taking a damn lot of upkeep from my income) to India, whereas if I'd sent them to America, I could have subdued the tribes easily.
The problem I face now is capturing the last of the tribes capitals and then marching on France's city, Quebec. I doubt I'll have enough men to march on the capital. I've spread my men too thin all over the world.
So now two choices remain: pull back my men from India (they just arrived, haven't set foot on Indian soil yet so I'm not at war with the Indians) and send them to America (they would arrive in ~9 turns) or keep my men in India, conquer India and then use the income to bolster my campaign in America. If I follow the latter option, my campaign in America will be put on hold for a good long while.
Add to this the fact that France is a damn strong country so if I decide to conquer both the Americas AND India, I'll be in for a world of pain.

Shit has hit the fan... India is a nest that I just poked with a stick, and now they're swarming all around me.
Basically sent ~4000 gold worth of units to capture one city, only to have it retaken and lose all my units. God damn.

Probably should of just pulled out of India and went back later, thining out your troops wasn't smart
How many players will the MP campaign have? Because it sure as hell would be nice to play with... say 10 people from FP.
Oh fuck me, I just found out about this franchise, I tried the shogun 2 demo and loved it. What would you say is the best in the series? I've heard good things about rome.
Medieval 2
[editline]5th July 2012[/editline]
Rome got me started so I still hold it in high regard, but overall I think Medieval 2 is better experience
I hated the diplomacy in ME2
Medieval 2 with Stainless Steel 6.4 is pretty cool.
I hated the diplomacy in ME2
The diplomacy in MW2 failed mostly because the AI was pre-programmed to expand in one direction, so e.g as France you would most definitely be at war with Portugal, Spain, HRE, England and Milan within the first 30 turns.
The Pope is the worst part of Medieval II for me. I can't besiege Paris without that pointy-hatted fucker telling me to stop being a meany head even though the French betrayed our alliance, captured and executed my Crown Prince and cut down four thousand of my men through treachery.
Makes it all the sweeter when I besiege Rome as Byzantium, to kill that asshole.
It really is possible to destroy the papal states.
If you conquer the entire map.

I believe so, possibly once all the priests ingame are dead too.

Watch out for the super inquisition who'll execute your entire family if you don't evac them into the middle of the ocean.
I actually Conquered the entire map once and that inquisition did try to come after me but my sanctuary in America was unbreachable.

I always have assassins around to deal with the inquisition.
The best part about M:TW 2 was the mongol invasion.
Especially the fact that it was possible to stop the entire mongol horde with a group of longbowmen and some spear militia.
The only thing to do was to place wooden stakes infront of the gate and allow the ram to breach the gate. At this point ALL of the cavalry (90% of their army) would rush into the stakes and die.
It was so amusing to watch the entire horde throw themselves at a certain death like mad, especially since the general got instakilled too and the infantry decided to rout.

Unless you're Russia. I conquered everywhere from Chechyna to Persia to Northern India. I knew from fighting Persia that fighting the Mughals would be hard, because in Darthmod their basic line infantry regiment is 375 men with melee attack skill of 11. My tactics were to blast them to pieces with Howitzers as they approached, and then tear apart their flanks with Cav so my infantry can surround the heavily depleted units. My current army in North India consists of 4 Elite Line Infantry from Moscow 3 units of Guards,6 batteries of Howitzers, (with 8 Howitzers in each) 3 units of Riflemen, and 7 or so units of assorted Sepoy and Company Infantry units. , The Mughals made it easier once they sent a full stack half way around the planet to America to conquer the Bahama's. They then promptly lost their navy and are now stuck on it, and earning 300 gold a turn in revenue from it. Bahahaha.
I also conquered Britain and accidently formed the US in 1725. In 1731 the US declared war on France so I traveled to America and conquered half of their territory, starting from the north. And thats how I captured the Bahama's in the first place.
Darthmod was the first thing I downloaded when I got my total war games so I haven't even played vanilla yet really, smart? or should I play vanilla?

Why would you play a game with mods first? You don't even know what you want improved.
Also I don't like darthmod that much.
The newest Darthmod with Empire is actually pretty challenging.
Even on the default normal difficulty I'm finding myself constantly being flanked and caught off guard.
Darthmod for Rome just seems to make everything take a lot longer.
Well, I made myself look like a fool, didn't I? I managed to do the amazing feat of pausing right as the enemy general died so the camera was stuck in dead general and I couldn't unpause it with the button. Even more astonishing, I forgot the P button unpauses as well, so I lost a battle that could have been of major importance.
Alsoi, I lost a siege battle badly as the defenders, I wanted to break it and went to attack the troops in open air. Well, i lost so bad the troops actually backed away to another city and actually fucking boarded the fleet of boats in there. Seriously, you couldn't garrison the city, you had to fucking board the boats in fear.
Anyhow, my conquest of southern france went well enough, I managed to capture a gaul fort and am currently holding it with the badass Cassius Anthonius, second only to Flavius
How does anybody even play rome on modern hardware?
I have a newish 1300 dollar 'gaming laptop' and it can hardly run Rome at medium settings, yet I can run Napoleon and Shogun 2 at high settings with no problem.
I have no problems
I only have problems with mine when my grass settings are any higher than medium, for whatever reason.
I've been playing medieval 2 with the kingdoms grand campaign mod, playing on max difficulty as England. The Wales have been the hardest opponent I had faced while taking Ireland was a walk in the park. At Cardiff they had demolished 3 armies in a siege in different stages with me slightly dominating in man power, it took me in the end to call in 2 armies at once to siege the place with the prince's personal legion of pikemen and late tier swordsmen to take it, the AI suffered terrible loses while my guys seemed to walk all over them.
Basically, Welsh units are OP as fuck and they will kill you dressed like women with wooden hammers.

settle for half of India for now, split your forces and play on the defensive. Divide and conquer.
The only bits of lag I ever get in Rome is when there's two full stacks of units and they're all moving at once.
da welsh
Their whateverthefuck Raiders are sick. They are super cheap and with the 2nd Welsh-only archer unit you can rape England. If you want hard play as Scotland VH/VH. Having to balance between dealing with the WE MUST UNIFY THE ISLAND Brits and the Norse hordes that land every 5 turns to stomp your shit is fucking challenging. You think you'd be safe when Mel Gibson shows up but he's just a captain of a 60 man 2h highlander stack.
R:TW Ai's retarded. So, here I am, facing a fucking huge gaulic horde. One full army and one 1/3 army against a 3/4 army and a 1/3 army. I am the 1/3 army and I spawn facing the other sidw from the gauls with a bridge between us. Now, knowing I'd get royally rammed if I charge through, I defend and hope they come to attack. They don't. meanwhile, my reinforcements arrive. The dumbass Ai decides to charge its leader and light cavalry, alone, through the bridge and into the fucking horde. Quit battle and went back a save, I give no fucks, jesus christ.
I still have no idea on how to deal with that huge horde. I think I'm going to take that 1/3 army of reinforcements and wreck shit in the other gaulic cities in the coast, hope he'll break off some units to help. What happens when cities are destroyed via hunger? Do all the units keel over and disappear?
How many of you are using Roma Surrectum II for Rome: Total War?
For those who haven't heard of it, here's a snapshot.

I thought that was a Rome 2 screenshot for a second.
Looks so much better than vanilla RTW.
