I wish the riflemen for FotS used bayonets instead of pulling out swords in melee.
But maybe the japanese fought like that back then...
Ironclads motherfucker!

Mother of God this looks tasty.
Dat Ironsides! Dat on-map railway!

Also was it just me or did I see cartridge-based rifling?

Yeah, bayonets were a very Western thing. European combat had focused on blocks of pikemen, when muskets became affordable the bayonet basically became the extension of the old tactics. In Japan, army tactics had focused more on the use of well-trained samurai cavalry striking hammer blows against poorly-trained peasants, and Japanese stubbornness and xenophobia made such developments spread very slowly.
I just reinstalled Napoleon. With the realism mod it's surprisingly entertaining. I'm finding real-world tactics are much more applicable with the changes it makes.
Ironclads are the most interesting things I'm looking forward to in FotS.

What I hate about it is naval warfare is practically useless in Shogun.
What I hate about it is naval warfare is practically useless in Shogun.
One of the big features of FotS is that navies can shell inland positions, so naval battles will be to decide who gets offmap artillery in battles or to prevent your enemies from decimating your armies as they march along the coast.
I can't wait to see something like Rome 2 or Medieval 3 on the new engine used in Shogun 2 and Napoleon.
That'll look great, especially if they keep the variety that those 2 games had, the lack of any unit or faction variety really put me off Shogun 2.
Is Medieval 2 Kingdoms seriously another 12gb?
If so, then follow up question: Is Medieval 2 Kingdoms worth 12 gb?
In related news, the Medieval 2 launcher needs to fuck right off with it's continuous music and not really closing after launching the game.
You can fix the launcher by renaming your exe to Launcher.exe. It just bypasses it entirely. Kingdoms is totally worth it especially if you want some of the better mods(Like DLV that makes the map more like Empire with tons of smaller territories, updates the grand campaign to use Kingdoms models for generals, forts, cities etc etc)
I don't have shogun 2 but this look really good.
I bet it's going to need rebalancing for the guns though, but we have darth mod for that.
Was gonna pre-order Fall of the Samurai tomorrow and saw that I got a code for the beta, cool. 17GBs to download though.
Looking forward to FOTS so much.
Got a beta code too, downloading.
Holy crap, me too.
I love it when everyone signed up gets a beta pass but they still call it closed
Aw man, I wish I knew there was a beta, I would have signed up so many (1) times
How are you guys getting into the beta?
How are you guys getting into the beta?
I got in by applying through closed beta link posted at TWCenter back in late December.
Is there still a possibility of joining?
Yeah really guys, wish someone would've told me.
There was a thread on it.
I would love for the next game to be Rome 2.
I hope they slow down the pace a bit though. All the ones after Medieval 2 have felt a bit too "action game" to me. I don't even have a real argument, I just didn't feel like they were very... strategerical.

I feel like Napoleon and Shogun 2 were awesomely strategical, while Medieval 2 was actually much more "ctrl+A right click Frenchmen", but that could just be because I have no idea how to use the units of that era.

usually that's going to get you killed
usually that's going to get you killed
Not when I'm Scotland with nothing but Highlanders. Not horses is the best thing to ever happen in that game.
It's a shame that the NDA for even this not so closed beta is pretty restricting
Really liking the beta, especially naval battles. The music and sound effects are brilliant. :D

oh god the amount of friendly fire
but yeah imo Shogun 2 has the best battle mechanics in any TW game
I just love the Creative Assembly and their release dates. My birthday is on the 24th of March and they keep releasing their games within a week of my birthday. I've been getting every game they've released since Empire as a birthday gift and now I'm gonna get FotS too.
I loved the military announcer, though. Especially when he'd say "triarii".
You called?
oh god the amount of friendly fire

One time I had a 8 units of militia and managed to flank the enemy on both sides, since they only had 3 units and I wanted to have some fun with the battle, but I didn't take friendly fire into consideration, so once they were down to their last unit my militia started mowing each other down and then they all routed and I lost.
