I love playing as the Takeda, sure the spot they are in is shit at the beginning but I just love having tons of Calvary units and archers and whatever my archers don't kill my Calvary just run them down :v: can easily make an unwinable situation into a win if you play your cards right, once you have tons of Calvary charging at the right spots they stand no chance

it seems like i always wind up getting into a big war with Takeda in all my games
they instantly conquer all the lands in the middle of Japan and hog up all the resources
Bought Empire & Medieval 2, about to start playing Empire, I love the 1700s so hopefully I like it :buddy:
I like shogun 2 for the pretty'ness, style of the map, awesome battle scenes and refined features but I also like medieval 2 because I prefer the era and taking over the world feels more amazing.
I can't decide which to devote my time to

That's us :D though to be fair being as the Takeda you start off in a shit situation, like in my recent campaign I tried to take North Shinano which led to me basically fighting everyone around me and alliances being broken and alliances being made and damn it's a total nightmare and the Takeda are in the middle of it. So yeah playing your cards right the Takeda can get huge but in the beginning it's crap.
Might just be Darthmod making the AI fuck me in the ass but as hard as it is it's enjoyable.

I played as the Takeda, took over about 6 provinces, and then noticed that the fucking Ikko Ikki, my ally, had like 25 provinces to my left, including every province surrounding Kyoto. I noticed they had 2 towns nearest to me that had no men in, with only a garrison of 1 Samurai Retainers in each. In a single turn I backstabbed them, and took over both two towns with a force of naught but Cavalry. 1 turn later the Ikko Ikki Force arrived. Maxed Star General, with an army of 4000 men, including elites, cavalry, samurai and bow's. Needless to say, I haven't played that campaign for a while.

Ply Co-Op with me!
Total War Co-op is shit, and I'll tell you why.
You take your turn. Your friend takes their turn, the AI takes it's turn.
Who designed this shit? Why can't everyone playing take their turn together, and hit end turn when they're done, then when everyone's done, the turn is processed. It makes it so agonizingly slow and tedious the way TW's is done.

That wouldn't work at all. If everyone executed their turns at the same time, you'd have two enemy armies walking past each other, when in actual fact the players had clicked where the enemy army had been. It would be shit. You'd see where the enemy is, then go to attack them and either 1) the enemy would just walk out the way and fuck you up or 2) you both move in to attack and walk past each other.

You don't understand the Total War concept. It's like a boardgame.
Have you guys read the new issue of PC Gamer that has 5 pages of TWR2?
No No you guys are missing the point all together. In a Co-op game, You and your friend should be able to take your turns simultaneously, instead of one at a time, then the AI takes its turn after all human players have hit End turn. I can see how it might not work sometimes if you and the other human players are NOT cooperating, but if you are, then it would work perfectly fine
Eat a dick Roman Empire SkkkUm~!

There are plenty turn based strategy games that allow players to do turns simultaneously. It works fine. Something like Sword of the Stars is a great example.

These guys are so badass they're winning the combat before they even hit the enemy.

Wow.
If I saw a 262 strong cav unit coming towards me, I'm taking my guys back on my boats and going home
While I am at it I may as well let this image sum up why I am in India:

Aren't you the guy that accidentally made the US after invading Britain?
Aren't you the guy that accidentally made the US after invading Britain?
Yeah. As you can see their continued existence didn't please me either so I took advantage of my alliance with France when the US declared war on them. I scooped in, took half their towns and negotiated peace, because I was fighting a big war in every theater. In Europe with Prussia and Sweden and in India with the Mughal Empire. At the moment I am exterminating the super powers of the planet one at a time. It started in Europe with Sweden, who were fed up because I wouldn't give them farming technology for the millionth time, so they declared war on me. I promptly bankrupted them with raids and trade blockades to the point where their standing army at their capital was about 1500 men made out of regiments that at largest were around 80 men strong. And most of them were 30-70 strong.
And while I was royally screwing them up, I declared war on the Mughals in the east, which had some pretty severe repecussions: The big five allied super powers on the planet, me, the Ottamans, the Mughals, Spain and Austria were extremely pissed off with me for breaking a 20 year running alliance. But seeing as how politics aren't exactly a limiting factor when half the planet is under your control, they reluctantly broke their alliances with the Mughals. So now they're getting slaughtered by the bucket load, because they are outgunned, unprepared and disorganized, relying on small army raids on my Indian infastructure. Doesn't matter though when you're pumping out 50,000 profit a turn though regardless.
Biggest question.
Is that Darthmod for E:TW?
Biggest question.

Yes.
Which mod do you guys recommend for R:TW? I've just gotten back into it but it's dull for me seeing as I have already completed the entire campaign.

It should be illegal to play E:TW without Darthmod
Fielded 24 howitzers all packing carcass shot. Such a glorious spectacle.
Is Darthmod compatible with the steam version? I may be compelled to reinstall Empires and maybe Napoleon.
I'm hesitant to try Darthmod. Does it really make the AI that much harder, because I struggle with the default Napoleon AI already (Though I'm great at Medieval II)

Notably, the mod is hardest when you pick some of the hard factions (and you won't realize until you play them) e.g Late age Russia (rebellions) and small countries like Greece and Norway (because they have angry expansionist neighbours.) Early age Britain is also somewhat hard because of your small units and lack of income.
It also makes it harder if you play as a faction with a small amount of men per Line Infantry- one of the perks of playing Russia is having the biggest European Line Infantry regiments at 338 men each. This comes at a cost to accuracy and price though. Britain gets 225 man regiments and France gets 275 man regiments. Of course the latter is more expensive and costs more upkeep, it just effects how big your total army size is fully stacked and how easy it is to raise big armies. If you're up for it all eastern factions get 450 man mobs and 375 man line infantry that are extremely good at melee, but shit at shooting. And rout the moment a cannon ball so much as glances a man.
So long as you keep people happy, invest enough into infrastructure and economy, and avoid fighting wars on every front you'll be fine.

In some regards the game becomes easier. Mainly because you have more time to manoeuvre while a battle is taking place. Longer range and ranked firing allow you to do that.
I started winning against the CPU easily when i stopped using super wide formations. Breaking your line up into small self sustaining units makes it much easier and is far more realistic.
Been playing Shogun a lot these past weeks, then last night I get told I'm going to Japan for 10 days, yeeeaah.
