A Russian civil war one would be somewhat more interesting. Whites, Reds, Greens, Blacks, Poles, Czechs, Finns, and the such.
Also their machine gun carts.
Have anyone cracked the files of Empire and Napoleon total war yet making it as moddable as medieval 2? I thought i read somewhere some time ago that a player uncovered something important in the files making way for easier modding or something.
I could of swore I read somewhere ages ago that CA made it moddable.
So the guys at the Westeros mod for Medieval II have done a full preview of House Greyjoy. Looks really good. They also did one for Houses Frey and Stark, plus a custom King's Landing. Hopefully it'll be done soon.
Jesus, last time I checked none of that was around.
They have made a shit ton of progress.

And the fact that they've done three major previews in the past month must mean they are getting really close to completion. I'm sure there will be a House Tully or House Arryn preview by September.
House Tully most likely because they and the Frey's likely share a lot of units, being as House Frey is a Riverland House and Tully is just the biggest of the Riverland Lords.
Just reinstalled Medieval 2, my favourite out of the series and possibly my most favourite game ever. I usually roll England (I'm an archers guy), but I'm giving Milan a try. I'm pissed that the HRE and Venice are teaming up against me, I always try to have the HRE as my bros.

Whenever I play Sicily/Venice I always ally with the Papal States on the first turn so that shit doesn't happen. Then you build a good relationship with the HRE and let Genoa and Venice kill each other off. Sometimes France will jump in if they are fighting to Take NW Italy and Venice almost always pisses off the Byzantines. As long as you stay 80%+ favored with the Pope you can always call on the rest of the Catholic nations to come in and bitch slap any one messing with you in the Italian region.
Case in point

I hate Milan. They have excellent crossbowmen, though.
I was playing as Britain and I completely crippled France. I went and looted Paris (fuck occupying that, I don't want to wait 25 turns just so the population starts to like me) and got 17k of gold, then went and looted the other cities, destroying buildings as I went (by demolishing them in the construction tab), to ensure that the dirty Frogs couldn't rebuild in my general's lifetime and attack us.
I caught Napoleon Bonaparte out in the open, just him and two other units, so I engulfed him with my stack and made him rue the day he was born a Frenchman. So, one of their most notorious generals dead, a whole host of their cities mere ashes of the magnificence they once were - my men had made me proud. Once a glorious army, now sorely lacking in numbers due to bloodshed. I sent my men back home, to return as heroes and veterans.
I gave France back most of it's territories in return for peace and a bunch of their technology. I wanted them to act as a safety buffer between me and the Swiss guys (who were getting too close for comfort). Literally 5 turns later, Paris is occupied with a full-French army stack, has most of it's buildings built and doesn't appear to be stopping the incessant churning out of units.
What the fuck is that? I've just gone and crippled their economy, turning Paris from a 6230 wealth region to 1200 region, taking 17,000 gold from it, destroying all it's buildings, and in 5 God damn turns they've got a full stack of a competent army? Uh... Is that a bug?
My original plan was to go and fuck Spain over, and occupy those territories, but what with France having a full-stack army, it's changed my circumstances a bit. I can't leave my two French regions under the threat of the France army, so I gotta send my men back into France and fuck them over for good this time. But I really don't want to occupy their territories.
The AI cheats, they have 0 turn recruitment and building most of the time. It's not that noticeable the first few times you play the game but after you're experienced enough you're best off just playing mods that make it challenging but not through cheating.
Oh man, I must admit it's satisfying seeing the results of a synchronized wave of crossbow bolts from 6 units. I'm playing with the huge unit setting, it's a bit different from the medium I was doing before while playing England.

Well, that's sort of put me off playing N:TW. What's the point in looting cities if they just instantly respawn units.

Thanks for the heads-up. Makes sense now when I liberate cities. I always wondered where the fuck the pretty hefty army popped up from.
CA could always pay the Three Kingdoms period a visit. Heck, even an Zulu: Total War might do.
Mfecane: Total War
Mfecane (Zulu: [m̩fɛˈǀaːne], crushing or scattering), also known by the Sesotho name Difaqane or Lifaqane, was a period of widespread chaos and warfare among indigenous tribes in southern Africa during the period between 1815 to about 1840.
Could be interesting, although the time period is 25 years you could always scale turns into months and the map into village as opposed to provinces centers.

I love the sight of six companies worth of flaming arrows on the huge setting. Especially at night.

This happened to me when playing as Prussia and every AI nation pulled a ton of units straight out of it's ass and declared war.

Also, Bomimo, in good sport of the internet argument I will help you out by saying there is a Medieval II mod that takes place in the Viking times. The only issues is that it is taxing on the hardware and unbalanced as fuck, but it can still be fun at times.
Barbarian Invasion 2, a mod for rome, also covers it. But the features and systems of these games are horribly far behind Shogun 2. Come to think of it, Empire really hasn't aged well either.
Darthmod Empire is pretty neat. Playing as the Italian states is fun because not everyone wants to beat the shit out of you.
Shame I crashed on a large battle

Yeah, Empire has been getting on my nerves.
I think I'm going to pick up Fall of the Samurai today since it's gotten good reviews across the board. My only issue is that the leap from Empire to that might be much since I'm getting more used to Empire.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Kingdoms
Three Kingdoms: Total War
Dynasty Warriors Empires, but total war.
Shit I loved those games.
Just bought Fall of the Samurai but good god does it take AGES to download.
And then it doesn't work. tried every fix and am currently re-installing.
So far, this game is horrible, mostly for the fact that I cannot even play it.
I always violent disagree with people who decides that a game is horrible just because they have issues starting it. They haven't really tried the game and letting out such a pissy remark is more of a boyish knee-jerk reaction to not getting his lollypop...

Dynasty Warriors! Best game of it's time! My God, it was so fucking fun. Charging head-on into a horde of Chinese motherfuckers and tearing them apart.
I'm playing vanilla Medieval 2 as Venice. I'm allied with the papal states and at war with Sicily, Milan, France, The Holy Roman Empire, Byzantium, Egypt, and Hungary has been held at bay by simply declining every offer of war they've made so far. All these wars began in a space of about 6 turns after I sent my main army lead by my heir to crusade off to Jerusalem with a short detour at Alexandria for a little cash. I gave alexandria to one of my neighbors I wanted to ally (with no success, I'm at war with whoever they are) and Jerusalem to the pope on my way back. These wars have gone on for the last 25+ turns with constant large skirmishes, regular full stack battles and ceaseless sieges. My all militia army has held them at bay so far with spears and crossbows. The recent development of cavalry militia has turned the tide of the wars. Now I'm preparing to deploy my first units of heavy hammerers against the Byzantines and I recently installed a Venetian pope but nobody seems to care yet. I'm the largest nation with the most powerful army in the world.

Anyone know how to fix this? Every time I clear the duplicates with the Launcher App it just makes more. It's like a fucking Hydra.
I've never run into that problem before. Best bet is to ask over at twcenter

So, interesting developments in my Milan campaign. Somehow, the Papal States and France declared direct war, and I got the pope to declare a crusade on Marseille. As I was approaching with my army, I saw the States attacking the city, but they were soon wiped out by a small French force from the side. I swooped in and liberated those poor Frenchmen. To my luck, the HRE and Venice both directed their large armies away from Bologna and Venice respectively for the crusade, so I marched right the fuck in and took both cities. I spread out to Toulouse, got another crusade to Nuremburg, and took Staufen in the meantime.
And then the plague happened.

Because a game doesn't have a right to work, right?
When you purchase a product, it needs to work. The company is there to ensure it works. Otherwise, the product is defective. If something is defective on purchase, most stores let you take it back. Why is it deemed acceptable for a game not to work? Why are games so different from any other product? Why should I put in more work trying to get it to run when the company is supposed to do that in the first place?
That being said, after re-installing it, I got it working, so I doubt it was the games fault. It was probably another issue with Steam botching the install again, so CA gets a free ride. Otherwise, it was a good game, it fixed so many issues and all in all is perfect.

It's happened before, and it's really annoying. Especially because the deleted ones remain so it's a bit of a challenge to find the starters that work. This time it started after I installed Broken Crescent (Which you guys should try, by the way, it's really good)
Thinking about declaring war on the ottomans in darthmod empire as the Italian states because if I declared war on anyone else I'd get fucked by all the major powers
Being the little guy is fun
