Dynasty Warriors! Best game of it's time! My God, it was so fucking fun. Charging head-on into a horde of Chinese motherfuckers and tearing them apart.
They are my dirty secret, only played behind closed doors. But the three kingdoms period does seem really suitable for a total war game, I think theres a mod out for medieval 2 set then, it might be out already.
Because a game doesn't have a right to work, right? When you purchase a product, it needs to work. The company is there to ensure it works. Otherwise, the product is defective. If something is defective on purchase, most stores let you take it back. Why is it deemed acceptable for a game not to work? Why are games so different from any other product? Why should I put in more work trying to get it to run when the company is supposed to do that in the first place? That being said, after re-installing it, I got it working, so I doubt it was the games fault. It was probably another issue with Steam botching the install again, so CA gets a free ride. Otherwise, it was a good game, it fixed so many issues and all in all is perfect.
The thing about that is that your computer can't take you urinating and defecating in it. It's darn obvious that the software isn't defective since we're all using it. Your computer is defective or Something on your computer conflicts with the game. That is hardly the developers fault. You should clean your computer. Do you return a door when it can't open because you forgot to clean up and everything's blocking it?

Do you return a door when it can't open because you forgot to clean up and everything's blocking it?
Well, for one, I got it working. I already said that. But yes, sometimes hardware does have issues with it that I can only see is caused my miscommunication between game and hardware companies. You would think it is the game companies job to make the game compatible with any released cards and test them to see if it works. Obviously, smaller devs do't have the money, but CA is pretty huge, I'm sure they do. Regardless, from what I read, Shogun II and it's DLC hasn't had any issues with cards made in the last 4 years or so, so obviously CA did do testing. However, some big game companies don't, which is inexcusable and simply laziness on their part. Good companies will develop patches for it, but some are content to just leave the game because the PC isn't giving them as much revenue as the consoles are. Another issue is when the hardware company makes a card that doesn't work with currently released games. Case and point, the AMD Bulldozer, which has had many incompatibilities with Shogun II. This is the hardware makers fault and the fault of the computer. My point is that regardless of who is at fault, whether it be the game company or the software designer, the customer is still entitled to a working product. Of course, it's a different story if the customer breaks the game. Also, I realize that sometimes things slip through the cracks, mostly because hardware companies insist on releasing a new card every month, and therefore new variables are brought up halfway through designing the game that slip by into the final version. The best thing to do is to patch it as soon as possible.
Well then you know as well as me that calling the game bad, based on problems getting it to run really isn't the proper erection...
Well then you know as well as me that calling the game bad, based on problems getting it to run really isn't the proper erection...
Yeah, I really badly jumped the gun on that one. This is what happens when you browse Facepunch after 12 AM.
Yeah, I really badly jumped the gun on that one. This is what happens when you browse Facepunch after 12 AM.
That and this a pretty aggressively reactive place in general.
That and this a pretty aggressively reactive place in general.
True, true. You know, posting on Facepunch is like owning a Mogwai, do not feed it after midnight.
Well then you know as well as me that calling the game bad, based on problems getting it to run really isn't the proper erection...
There are games out there where it's fair to say the game is bad because it's impossible to get working.
In R:TW I've played all 3 roman factions and a handful of other factions with just short campaigns. I played the Romans first and as a result everything is borked as hell but now I've gotten much better at organizing large empires. I'm wondering about the long campaigns, which are easy and which are challenging? (all relative to the individuals' skill obv.) I already know that most of the barbarian factions would be hard since their tech tree is garbage but i'm not too sure about the rest.

I thought they had a list of supported graphiccards.
Watching HBO's Rome and getting really pumped for R:TW2.
There are games out there where it's fair to say the game is bad because it's impossible to get working.
Nope. However, audibly regretting the purchase is ok. I regret buying Theme Park World because it can't start on any NT system. I partly regret getting BF3 because i'm one of the few lucky guys who get the 580 crashing. Doesn't make either bad and if they're bad, that isn't the reason.

Theme Park and BF3 could easily be good games but because you cannot really play them, you regret the purchase. Makes sense. Anyways, I've been playing FotS lately and I really love it! Considering I thought Shogun II was meh (the only thing I could compare it too at the time was Napoleon, the only other Total War I owned) I couldn't really see what had improved because the styles of play were vastly different. Now that I bought FotS, I can really see how drastically the game has improved, and they really did fix everything. Besides the whole install business, the game has run fine. It's much more optimized than Napoleon, which I could only get around 4,000 soldier battles on without frame rate hitches. However, like Empire, I can get up to 10,000 men or more on screen and have no problem, despite the graphics and AI being significantly improved. All in all, I am definitely looking forward to Rome II.

the filter reminds me of roman paintings which i guess is what they're going for
Can't fucking wait for R:TW 2, buying it as soon as it's up for pre-order!
By the senate those look amazing.
I prefer my total war games with realistic lighting and contrast. I don't need that cinematic feel for games that try to appear realistic.
Wow those images look amazing, what I really miss in most Total War games is the maps and enviroments, but that is some badass archetecture and scenery.

CA not showing us some ancient phallus love?
dat nose
One bad thing I've noticed from the screens so far is that there is a disappointing lack of blood.
Ancient Greek and Roman culture saw large penises as ugly and comical, whereas small willies were seen as a sign of masculinity.
CA not showing us some ancient phallus love?
It's obviously an erection pointed directly at us, the fans. Valve never showed us this kind of love. [editline]15th August 2012[/editline]
Ancient Greek and Roman culture saw large penises as ugly and comical, whereas small willies were seen as a sign of masculinity.
It is. It means you're scalable. It's well known that hanging penis means you're impotent. They're also mostly within the same size margin when ready to poke.
Ancient Greek and Roman culture saw large penises as ugly and comical, whereas small willies were seen as a sign of masculinity.
So that's why in the Rome series the actors would go around with huge dildo's when playing a fool.
Why is it that I cannot find a single balanced Multiplayer battle? It doesn't even do autobalancing itself and so you get paired against a max-rank general with an army of gatling guns versus your militia and samurai.
Too few play outside Rome and Shogun 2...
