I got Empire on sale a long while back and never could get into it. Is there something I'm missing? It just seems so slow and boring.
Na, that's pretty much it. It's way to slow paced for a total war game, infact all the games past Empire just take to long for me thats why I can't enjoy them. Rome and Medieval 2 are where I've stayed this whole time, hopefully Rome 2 is more like them for the campaign map.

But yeah, Empire and Napoleon are slow, and honestly rather shit. Don't let them color your perceptions of the Total War games. Pick up Medieval II and Kingdoms for the mods, then go to Shogun II and it's expansions. I would simply avoid Empire and Napoleon all together.
Roman Steel in the Brutii fist, according to the year timer on my game I've been at war with the Egyptians for 40 years, we are slowly gaining ground however as they are starting to run out of people to recruit into their armies, I'm literally killing the entire population of Egypt one unit of Nile Spear men and axemen at a time.

I'd like a Nappy-Total War game, but with Empire-Size world map
I'd like a Nappy-Total War game, but with Empire-Size world map
I'd love a late 1800's TW game.
I'd love a late 1800's TW game.
Indeed, something like FotS but set in Europe. We could cover things like the Franco-Prussian war up till, I'd say the year 1898. It should definitely start with the American Civil War though, just because it's more memorable for people.

However, the map should include Africa, and options for colonization.

Just make it from like 1860-1900 or something.
I think the only tactical game to cover the same historical area with comparable breadth (not just limited to say, the ACW) would be an old wargame titled "Age of Rifles", covering wars from 1848 to 1905. One of the really nice features for its time was that it allowed you to customize troop uniforms, allowing you to create monstrosities wearing Japanese khaki, Highlander kilts, Prussian spiked helmets, and armed with spears!
I think I'm gonna retract my statement on Napoleon. It's a pretty good game. Sure, it's slow and sluggish at times, but it has less of the "rock-paper-scissors" feeling I get from RTW, M2TW and Shogun II. I think it's due to the smaller unit variety and inefficiency of cavalry that forces you to use better tactics to defeat the enemy instead of "which unit will kill it the easiest" However, that being said, Napoleon is still miles behind M2 and Rome (and Shogun II) just because how slow the units and action is. Battles take longer and troops move slower, and in a game that requires fast paced tactical cunning, that kind of kills it. However, Empire is still awful. The AI is so bad it's practically unplayable for me.
oh my sweet jesus, I just captured thebes, alexandria and the other town in between, oh my god, all this loot money, oh god, they have foundries and elite cavalry stables and legionary barracks. Sweet mother of jesus, I won't have to travel half way around the world to reinforce from carthage.

In Shogun 2 vanilla the best I could manage as Shimazu was about 7 provinces. The sheer pressure of having to look after your borders and avoid rebellions (and in FOTS playing as a modernized nation is a complete and total bitch because of Rebels) disencouraged me to take the next city in my sights. Napoleon though is very slow paced, I agree with that.
I really hate FotS. Rebels are totally over-powered, they have 10 times the amount of soldiers then the province's population, and they sometimes have stuff like Armstrong guns, which I haven't even researched/purchased yet.
So is there any word if reinforcing your armies in R:TW2 is going to follow the newer, easier ways used in E:TW-S:TW2, or are we going to have to build elite stables in small towns in order to rebuild our foces?

That's funny because E:TW's system is way different than N/S:TW's system. In E:TW you have to manually chose to replenish (more men) or merge the units (retain experience gained) at any time. in S:TW, they replenish automatically, so if you don't merge units, you lose their experience. IMO, they should go with E:TW's system.

Just build inns.

(Or banks for dosh) E:TWs system was a bit odd for me because you could pay for a unit of 1 to replenish and 1 or 2 turns later it was back up to full strength. I also preferred how you built stuff generally in N:TW. Chose between 2 buildings in various provinces, with the last building in the chain having global effects was what I enjoyed. I hated Vanilla Shogun because you had the bullshit food limit.

It's really not that weird. You can't replenish units with only a few men since they're automatically disbanded after the battle.
Total War: Rome II gameplay footage is out!
Total War: Rome II gameplay footage is out! -Orgasmic Video of Rome in all it's glory-
Welp, I'm sold.
Oh wow, it's only 50 or 40 seconds worth of actual footage, what a gyp.
Is it only me who is not at all excited over this trailer?
Is it only me who is not at all excited over this trailer?
Compare it to R:TW's scale and tech.
Compare it to R:TW's scale and tech.
Better graphics, boat & land combat, catapults on boats, some cool pre-animated stuff that will never be in the game, angry elephants and the release will be in 2013. Some cool stuff. But i guess i expected to see some more actual gameplay instead of a bunch of 1 second long scenes.
I'm more interested in the campaign map.

I hope soldiers won't speak English like they do in the trailer. I really liked how in N:TW (and E:TW ?) they spoke the language of their faction, instead of the ridiculous M2:TW accents.
