Total War Megathread V.2: "All of Christendom Will be Awed by this Megathread!"

There are 2 ways to get more from merchants.
The first is to send them as far as possible from the capital. Camping them on gold, ivory, etc in Arguin and Timbuktu is very profitable, along with camping them in the middle east. The Americas are good later as well.
The second, getting up their merchant skill is a bit trickier but still straightforward to do. If you build up all the trade buildings in a city and train loads of merchants from there you will get a offer for a merchantguild usually. Once you get to the max level of guild you can be assured most of your merchants can walk over the competition and have enough skill to avoid being killed or driven out of business.
It takes a while to get returns, but they are very good and stable. The Kingdoms expansion boosts the money from merchants too.
Yes, but we have no idea how they pronounced certain words. It's why Pompeii is so important, because the graffiti actually shows how they pronounced certain words. What letters were silent? What part of the word was stressed? We won't really know for a lot of the words.
There were conventions, and they're known. And we know the pronunciation was different to reflect the grammatical casus.
E.g. Rosa means either "the rose" of the o is stressed (nominative), or "By/with the rose" if the a is stressed (ablative).
We know how it was pronounced. It was in all of my books and nobody ever went "well we don't know" because there is a huge amount of books left from Latin, some of which teach Latin themselves. Romans wrote books by the truckloads, and some of these happen to be about Latin itself and how a skilled orator should stress vowels or pronounce certain words to convey his message in a clear way.
Occasionally, off-hand comments also teach us. For example, Cicero wrote to a friend that Romans put "cum" after a personal pronoun and jokes that "Otherwise, if one were to write nobiscum as cum nobis, the message could be confused with a dirtier one." This shows us that an m, followed by an n, was silent and thus cum nobis sounded like cunno bis (literally translated: twice in the cunt).
TL;DR: Romans wrote about Latin and we have a very good idea of what it sounded like.
Damn Senate and other Roman families bother me, once I get rid of the dirty Gauls I'm just going to march right through Italy and take everyone out, better to do it now considering I'm the richest nation in the game at the moment so I can easily support it. I think if I wait to long they will just gather massive armies and it will be annoying as shit, might get Greece to help.
Really just started playing Rome even though it was the first one I got but I never got into it, I guess playing the others helped tons :v: I probably like it better then medieval now.
Page king, have a picture of the damn Austrians coming right on to Napoleons amazing French army and all getting shot at and about to get slaughtered.

You can only engage in civil war at the end game, when your popularity with the people is high.
I married my heir to he portuguese queen. Is it possible for my heir to be the portuguese crown heir? (thus allow me to control portugal, too?)
No, sadly. Once she marries, she's their's forever. There is a mod that let's that happen though.

Fall of the samurai is funnest of all.
Dammit, how come the Total War Collection doesn't include the Medieval II expansion?
Is it worth buying it seperately?

I bought it yesterday when it was 1.25 but haven't played it, if it's still on sale at all there shouldn't be much reason not to.

Just conquered Spain and France. Now maybe Mexico and them will trade with me.
I really need to trade.
Steam must have run out of keys for Medieval II because it's not letting me launch it.
"failure to contact key server" or something like that. Other people on SUF have the same problem.
I feel like playing a game. Might go Napoleon or Battles: SHOGUN (free gift), just to try it. Any suggestions?
That Shogun Battles game isn't a total war game, I'm not sure why they released it on PC.
Rebought RTW Gold on steam since it was 1 buck.
First custom game: 240 fully upgraded german berserkers vs. 5040 Julian peasants
Results: 3 dead berserkers, >2000 dead peasants
holy shit

'Follow me men! I have never lost a battle before and I do not plan on starting today!'
Well no shit you're 15 years old and this is the first time you ever left the city.
Does anyone know any really good mods for M2TW that don't need Kingdoms?

Liar! Coming-of-age is 16 years.
Fuck the mongols.
That is all.
Fuck the mongols.
That is all.
You're going to love the Timurids.
Fuck the mongols.

How to win a siege against mongols/tirumids:
1.Get longbow archers/ any archers that can place stakes.
2.Place stakes infront of main gate they want to breach in pre-battle deploy, then retreat all units into inner castle/ town square
3. Wait for them to break down/ capture your gate, and laugh as the entire cavalry force runs into a swift death, including all generals.
4. Mop op the few remaining units of infantry.
I mean this really works for me every time, I managed to hold off 3 stacks of mongols with 120 longbowmen, and 180 knights. :v:
ok so i allied tokugawa he and me are like best of friends now so i decide to attack the Shogunate
yeah uhh how come they have such a massive army yet they only have 1 province is it cause the rest keep being little bitches to them and giving them money
Just played a battle with Dachanders.
We were Prussia and Austria versus France and Spain AI. We started off the battle fine but Dach got out flanked by the French and most of his army routed, but thankfully I had routed most of the Spanish army by that time with my Howitzers shattering them. The French still outnumbered both of us and we reformed our lines together for a final stand against their encroaching line infantry. I actually had a unit run out of ammo which has never happened before. My Howitzers completely destroyed them however, those things are brutal, they pulled the game back from the brink.
Love coop battles.
