The way they handled kingdoms was pretty goofy during the sale. It wasn't in the 'complete' collection and both Medieval II and Medieval II: Gold were seperate entities with the same price, leading to some confusion. At least one of my steam friends bought Medieval II without realizing the gold pack with kingdoms was the same price.
I did the same mistake, but I still got both anyways. I didn't see kingdoms under the sale.
Kingdoms only adds the 4 new campaigns, right? (It's well worth it, though)
ONLY?
Shit, man.
It adds many new units, maps, features, and just tons and tons of new assets in general.
My only peeve is that they failed to include all of these features in the base Medieval 2 campaign right out of the box and left that to the modders.

Eh, I bought it retail ages ago.
I forgot there was a Total War sale going on actually. :v:
But, regardless.
It's totally worth picking up if you have any love for the base game at all.
Managing units on the battle map in E:TW is painful, I tried to get a unit into a fort and it literally sent them to a hill across the river. I'm guessing this is because they were too big for it but at least in R:TW it sends them in as much as it can.
Its so easy to get enveloped in M:TW. The heir of Spain, a 30 year old general with maximum command, chivalry, loyalty, and piety, was returning home from a 10 year crusade when the French declared war on me. His ship managed to avoid the French fleets throughout the Mediterranean but it was caught a turn out from Spain. It was lost along with all the men on board. I got so sad after that.
What I found really crappy about M is how weak the speeches are. All my generals speak in a weird tone and rhythm.

The English, I find, have pretty good speeches. The Scottish too, on occasion. The rest, yeah, they're pretty shit.

Good scum, French are the best, I had a great time playing them in Medieval and honestly I just love the position on the map, it's pretty easy to defend and attack from.
Also I love how in Rome and Medieval if your army has a good position the enemy army most of the time doesn't just fucken run right into you, if its kind of equal or better then the enemy army then the enemy tries to move around to go for a weak spot and if you move to stop that then they move again and so on. Hell in Rome I had an army do that but then they decided to turn around and run away because they were going to get slaughtered.
I remember playing medieval II and it was the king of France against the king of England and that happened on a raining dark battlefield where tons of people already died on both our sides and we were going closer to eachother while moving to get the better position, and he already evaded previous battles so I wasn't going to let him get away this time.
Planned it perfectly and bam finally got him, it just a lot of fun and it's a shame I've never seen it in the other Total War games.
French declared war on me for no reason as England, France with double of the armies compared to me ended up having to give me 2 regions and I took Paris. Later they were raped by Spain and Holy Roman Empire.

Thats what happens when you attack a nation with super advanced pikemen, musketeers and cannons.
Tasty new screens:

I didn't realize all that stuff from the trailer was in-game. So great. Especially the emotions, they actually look really good.
I don't like how everything's brown.
I don't like how everything's brown.
Yeah that is kind of worrying, hopefully it's unique to Carthage. If not, modders are always around.
Look at the minimap. Different color for legions?

That's the minimap? Christ, I thought it was a watermark. I like the Medieval II minimap most, to be honest.
But yeah, they are slightly different in each picture. Oh well. Maybe the color coding is for unit types? Legions would be cool too, though.
French declared war on me for no reason as England
I can see a reason
Added Chapter 2 in my AAR for anyone interested.
The color pallet is how it tends to look when you invade a town in north africa at sunset. They already explained this. In all my years, i've never seen a gamer bitch at the prospect of visual and atmospheric diversity.
The devs said this and i'll just repeat that for your cute deaf ears.
Been playing Shogun II. This is some good stuff. I ended up running out of money on my first campaign though, lol.
North africa? Isint that acropolis ontop of that mountian in the first pic?
North africa? Isint that acropolis ontop of that mountian in the first pic?
Did the Greeks ever use war elephants? Besides, I'm pretty sure the circular port in the first picture is a Carthaginian design.

Carthage= North Africa.
I can see a reason
hah yeah but we were pretty chill for 30 turns, I owned regions in France and France never bothered me other than trade agreements. Then out of the blue they demanded I give them all my regions in France, lodes of mone and become their puppet state.
Carthage= North Africa.
And Iberia.
I'd blame the brown-ness on the artillery kicking up smoke, blocking out the sun.

But you'd be wrong. It's still because of it being in North Africa. The devs explicitly stating so should be an obvious clue.

I haven't been following the devs.

But now you know. You can get off the artillery's back now.
Playing Proland in M2TW. Very fun, and quite easy considering how secluded you are.
