The Polish/Portuguese javelin cavalry are easily one of the most OP units in Med2 and it also doesn't help that the Poles comprise 90% of their army with em. Playing as the Teutonic Knights in DLV and I'm really not looking forward to when total war breaks out cause I know those dickbags will come knocking. I really hope they decide to fuck with Russia/HRE/Hungary instead so I can deal with the Lithuanian pagans. My only safety net is the Pope at this point. Hopefully he'll step up and tell them to sit the fuck down or else I'll call a crusade on Krakow.

One of the biggest things I'm looking forward to is Rome 2's soundtrack. Rome 1 probably had one of the best game soundtracks I've ever heard, as well as Medieval 2 and FOTS.

Playing M2TW as England, only 21 turns in. I've taken the north and east of France, and parts of Belgium and Holland. Now I'm moving in to surround France. I've just fought against two armies, one including King Philip himself, defeating both, just outside Paris.

So now I managed to reach this point in my Fall of the Samurai game where the entire western half of Japan likes eachother and has built a massive network of alliances and I am in the middle of it with 5 territories and nothing to do.

I mean seriously, nothing has happened for 20 turns now, only some petty fighting between the pro-shogunate clans on the other half of the world. TW games are always so damn awkward when you reach the point where everyone is at peace, I don't know what to do.

Like I feel like expanding, but if I declare war on anyone I'll have the entire continent on my back.

Thats your problem right there. As soon as is humanly possible unlock the building that gives you your first bladed/blunt weapon unit, i.e Billmen, Swordsmen, etc. In the early game your Spearmen are good for two things- being fodder/bait and providing some form of infantry protection against Mailed Knights. If you're on the defensive use your spearmen to form your main line and then behind them have your Swordsmen and the like. When the enemy army charges your lines throw the Swordsmen through the Spearwall, and allocate the Spear Units to the parts of the fight as you see fit. If you have a surplus beyond your line place them on your flanks and make them surround the enemy when the brawl starts.

In the early game the best weapons your armies have is your cavalry and advanced melee units. Also, don't be afraid to throw your general into the mix. Sometimes a well timed charge from a unit of 50 bodyguard knights is the tipping point in a melee you're about to lose. It also gives him good traits and bonuses.

Earlier on in my campaign, Denmark were being total dicks. So I sent my diplomat down to Rome to let the Pope have his way with him, thus securing an alliance with the Papal States. Now that they were going steady with us, I asked for a crusade against that asshole Knud. The Pope obliged. Having turned up to my own crusade late (whoops) I thought I'd teach the Danes a lesson.

Absolute massacre, not a single enemy left alive.

Wow Parrott guns are the most OP thing in any total war game ever.

I mean 8 Parrott guns killed a total of 2000 men in a 3000 vs 6000 battle, I was the 3000 army and I won. The fact that 2 units of artillary killed a third of the entire Obama (yes that is a FoTS clan) army is just amazing.

This was a heartbreaking defeat for me. The Milanese had laid siege to the city of Bruges, and my only garrison there was a rag-tag force of mercenaries and under strength infantry. I attempted to reinforce, however I was only able to get a unit of Welsh Spearmen and a Ballista team to help. Despite this, they played a crucial role in the battle, unfortunately losing in the end.

Sorry for the huge image dump, but there was a hell of a lot going on in that battle. It lasted about an hour or more at my guess, I wasn't tracking time. Very stressful fighting Very Hard AI. Fun nonetheless, but a sad loss of all those units.

I copied Rome Total War onto my portable hard drive and I'm gonna show it to my history teacher next period (we were doing Rome, the city last term and we're doing Pompeii this term). Also suggested the series to one of the teachers at the school who was trying to find some games with educational value (Portal 2 is good for physics for instance).

Damn shame I haven't had much time to play the games since my holidays are over now, though.

There was a show on the history channel way back in the day that used RTW for sims. Also the TW games aren't really educational at all but they do, atleast in my case, act as a catalyst to peak interest in history n geography.
