Think with your noggin dummy. The Napoleonic wars ended in 1815
I assumed that would only be the case in the Napoleon campaign itself, not the grand campaign.
I would like to see a Total war game that is entirely Make it yourself. Spanning from 1800 to the 1900 with all the historical events between.

I guess you haven't played Napoleon. There is no grand campaign, it's 1805-1815, each turn is half a month.
[editline]21st October 2012[/editline]
For each nation, not just Napoleon. Of course there's his early campaigns too, but those are even shorter.
I'll leave these here.

^Who can honestly tell me a WW1 Total War wouldn't be awesome?
WW1 war total would be fucking awesome, but its like saying cod should be realistic...will never happen.

I dunno, if they see the mods are successful they might give it a go, but after such a shoddy reception for empire after some of the medieval and rome fans decided they didn't like guns they might feel that it wouldn't work out.

It'll be fucking fail.

I wouldn't say Never. World War 1 still fits fairly nicely with the Total War genre
What more describes the words "Total War" than a World War? Seems like a no brainer to me. Just has to be large scale, visceral and replayable.

And this is just a modification that isn't even close to being done.
Been playing Empire Total War, my first playthrough as so far lasted to 1817.
All of central and west europe is mine, the Russian's and Maratha confederacy hold everything else.

At the moment I am in 1741 from 1700 on a 3 turn per year game and I have half of India, every region between India and Georgia, western Europe right up until Vienna in Austria, Iceland, Britain, and the United States Colony towns. My greatest general, Aleksandr Menchikov, conquered Crimea, Dagestan, Georgia, Persia (seriously the hardest enemy), Afghanistan, and his dying conquest was the Mughal Empire. He died one turn after the victory at Selon Kot, having wiped out the Mughals. My other favourite was Prince Yusopov, who conquered the gap between Kiev and Istanbul, Malta, Britain, Iceland and fought to a truce with half of the US colonies in his hands before dying. If you haven't guessed, I'm playing Russia. I'm part of the big 4 nations on the planet left- France, Spain, me, and the Ottamans. Up until recently Austria was one too, but within less than 5 years I crippled them and fought them all the way to Vienna. Ive got about 6 full stacks just in that region, who are going to invade France and everything inbetween after I'm done. I'm at the point where Its pocket change when I buy 8 units of Line Infantry in one place.
Small tech question here. Anyone have issues with the game locking up on the 7000 series of ati cards? I have an 7870 HD and for whatever reason the game freezes up the whole computer after a few minutes. All other games play fine btw. D:
Edit: Forgot to mention for the game Shogun 2.
I have the same problem and it sucks!
But new drivers are out, have you tried them?
Man, an historical battle of Verdun where you keep getting reinforcements (at different speeds) until you capture the city would be neat. Maybe if we could do attacks on the french supply line, too.
I
disagree
You're objectively wrong. Who wants to play a war that, in its entirety, was about gaining 5 feet of trenches in 18 months? That's dull as all hell.
You do realize that trench warfare only really happened on the western front...right?
There were kinda like five different fronts.
[editline]23rd October 2012[/editline]
I mean shit. There was the western front, eastern front, Alpine front, Africa, and the middle east.
[editline]23rd October 2012[/editline]
And then there's the Eastern-Eastern front if you count the Russian Civil War.

I didn't realize total war players could be this ignorant holy shit.
trench and mountian warfare in a total war game?
no
trench and mountian warfare in a total war game?

What about carbine cavalry rushes? What about Austrian Uhlans kiting enemy armies out of their positions to that the German armored cars can gun them down. What about brutal pitched battles on the Caucasus mountains, with Ottoman infantry gunning down desperate Russian charges while cries of ZA RODINYUUUUUUUUUUU OOOOOOOOORAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! fill the air, nearly deafening all who hear it. Then you have the western front, British tommys and Canadians fighting battles of attrition against the Huns, while the French demonstrate why they would be the most powerful military power for the next twenty years. Maybe even have a red October scenario, one that would be pretty much entirely urban warfare, taking the franchise from two lines of infantry squaring down, to out maneuvering enemy patrols and army units while using buildings as cover, booby traps, and spies would be the deciding factor instead of cannons and cavalry. And maybe the game could go on for longer than the war did, maybe the Germans get to use the MP18 enough that it turns the tide of battle, or the french get to deploy the Char 2C (largest tank to be operational) in a real battle.
And what about tri-plane bombing runs, bi-plane dogfights, or crippling howitzer volleys, demolishing the battlefield, reshaping it.
Sounds really cool to be honest. But i don't think such a game would ever have total war in its name
You're objectively wrong. Who wants to play a war that, in its entirety, was about gaining 5 feet of trenches in 18 months? That's dull as all hell.
Because trench warfare was the only thing that happened in wwI
Don't forget torpedoing passenger liners.
The thing is that Creative Assembly wants to stay true to the history and all it's details. All these tactics that are not soley trenchwarfare were not used that often or everywhere, perhaps they do not want to create a game where the map is full of specialized troops that were only used at certain areas or timelines during the war.
That is only one major gripe I see about all those special units.
trench and mountian warfare in a total war game?

??
Gee, how dare they change the formula of their games from that of their original Rome game from probably 10 years ago now.

Staying true to history and details is kind of impossible with CA games. Not to be one of those guys, but total war games hugely simplify history and as such, they want you to do what you want with things.
Look at Rome 2 and you can see that while they're keeping the total war gameplay elements and such, they've changed a lot of how it plays and are making it so that the game's more flexible in how it plays.

And it wasn't till late war that the tacticians realized that forming people up in platoons was better than by company or regiment.

Uhh. They change the formula from Total War to Trench Warfare... It's not Total War anymore. They are free to make a Trench War series if they want. Why do people even ask for WW1 and 2 Total War games when there are TONS of RTS' set in that time? Just play HOI3 and whenever you want to fight a battle, get CoH going. How hard is that?
Uhm. You do know that trench warfare was only western front. Right?
I keep repeating this, but you don't seem to listen.
It was a traditional war in literally every front and as it's a world war, there was more than just a brown field in france.
[editline]23rd October 2012[/editline]
And um. WW1 technically ended in 1922 with the Turkish war of independence.
[editline]23rd October 2012[/editline]
I also imagine that it would be hard to fight a trench war in the hills of New guinea.
