TWCenter already has threads about people worrying that Rome 2 is going to be a terrible game because they've only shown the battle of Carthage so far and 'its coming out in 2013!'
TWCenter is also filled with whiny fucks who cry about never getting their way and always seek to change every detail because they think it's not right.
I freaking love how this thread is actually becoming active now. Before it was only like a post every week or so.
I freaking love how this thread is actually becoming active now. Before it was only like a post every week or so.
Is it just because of the WW1 mod? Shame I can't get the good one since I don't have napoleon.
I would really like a WW1, WW2 or Modern Warfare RTT game though, Men of war kind of did it but I couldn't really get the hang of that.
My personal favorite right now is Graviteam's Achtung Panzer: Operation Star. The campaigns are "operations"--portions of a larger battle (say, the encirclement of the 320th Infantry Division during the 3rd Battle of Kharkov in the village of Tarakanovka), played out on a grid-based map with platoon-size pieces. The battles range from company to battalion size and the orders you give to your troops are more broad-brushed (give a platoon an attack order on an enemy position and they'll usually sort it out themselves) rather than precise directives. In fact, there's a demo up (using the newest patch changes and additions); give it a try! http://www.steelfury.com/demo/k43t/demo/k43t_a1_demo_eng_04_setup.exe

I would really love to see a futuristic/space-based Total War, but it would essentially have to be perfect or it would turn out terribly.
I would really love to see a futuristic/space-based Total War, but it would essentially have to be perfect or it would turn out terribly.
Warhammer 40K, legions of Spehs Mehrens charging into hordes of Orks. I could dig that.
I would really love to see a futuristic/space-based Total War, but it would essentially have to be perfect or it would turn out terribly.
They'd need a new IP for that, in fact they did try it with Stormrise and that game was fucking terrible.
Please tell me why you're being so overly defensive?
Because the guy i attempted to quote was being overly offensive and presumptive about my opinions. But he'd replied to me in the quote so the quote was empty and FP just decided that it would be cooler if i appeared to just blurt it out randomly as some Russian Swede.
Is it just because of the WW1 mod? Its been a while since one of these. Just to let you all know things are moving on and we are getting closer to release there is still some way to go however. We have reached a stage we consider to be beta. This means most things are done, though much fine tuning and bug fixing is still needed. We also still need to add some models, perhaps add some units, make unit cards and do a whole host of other things. Crucially beta means the mod is complete enough that we can playtest and catch any bugs. Release seems ever closer. Anyway here is a small preview of some UI features myself and Aanker have implemented recently for your viewing pleasure!

Empires naploeons update isn't out
What I am doing wrong then, custom battles show only one type of line infantries multiple times and country flags dont give names of factions.
I just beat the roman campaign in Total War: Rome. I feel like a total bad ass.
What I am doing wrong then, custom battles show only one type of line infantries multiple times and country flags dont give names of factions.
No unit cards. Only choose military and line imfentry and remember which you chose
I just beat the roman campaign in Total War: Rome. I feel like a total bad ass.
Easiest one now Parthia
The more I see of Rome 2, the more I get excited for Medieval 3. Sorry Creative Assembly, that period just isn't that interesting to me.
Empire II go go go.

Then i played it and got totally sucked in by the gameplay and grew to really love the setting.
That's what i thought about Shogun 2. I'm playing through the war path campaign right now and damn it's a lot of fun, Iroquois are beast
You are all going forward in time, but why not go backward? Total war: paleolithic
Actually, if it weren't for TCA being AA status, a far-ancient Total War in, say Mesopotamia would be great.
I find myself, after having played Medieval 2 for three years, to play with more quirks. Probably due to an unhealthy fascination with HBO's Game of Thrones, I've heavily role played with my families and their descendants. In my current Byzantine Empire game, I've done things like: 1. Create Household families, which pledge fielty to either the Emperor or some other House hold depending on marital status. In addition, I've been playing with succession in mind, so say that House Drosinus controls Cornith, only the eldest son could inherit Cornith, while the other sons would lead armies or control forts. 2. Titles like paramount lords. Basically I have regions controlled by one major house hold, who in turn distribute these lands to other houses. This creates a feudal hierarchy in which most vassals bend the knee to their paramount lord, who in turn bend the knee to the Emperor. 3. Unless in times of crisis, vassals generally lead armies in the territory of their fiefs. Not until some major war that affects the Empire on all sides will the vassals lead their armies out of their lands. 4. Previously I'd just leave any excess general to take a city then dump him there. Not anymore as explained above. Newly captured settlements are for new vassals and for possibly minor branches of powerful houses that have proven themselves. So yeah, I'm actually having a lot of fun like this. Currently in my game I've expanded both westwards and eastwards, fighting a two front war though I remain victorious. In the east, I have sent two members of the royal family, Prince Voulgariotes and Nikolaos the Champion, to take over the land. Both of them are now closing on Jerusalem, which at the moment is being held by Denmark. To the west, I've launched a three prong invasion on the Italian peninsula. Within a few turns Florence, Naples, and Rome had fallen. The invasion was being lead by another royal family member, Tobromeros Commenus, who rallied the vassals in the west to invade Italy. However, Tobromeros was assassinated by a Venetian agent, and the vassals and their forces slowly melted away, forcing the Emperor himself to come into Italy and retain control. So yeah, this is how I've been playing.

Hell, having early armies composed of men with bare knuckles and sticks beating the shit out of each other with men tossing stones behind them would actually be fun. maybe a mod should do this for medieval.
You are all going forward in time, but why not go backward? Total war: paleolithic
I would personally like Assyria: Total war
Ancient tribal african (pre trans atlantic slave trade) could be interesting. Also pre columbian native american warfare.
I just beat the roman campaign in Total War: Rome. I feel like a total bad ass.
On the 1,915th anniversary of the Praetorians forcing Nerva to adopt Trajan as his successor no less.
Those would be horrible TW games. No technological advancements, a virtually nonexistent economy, and the fights would just boil down to who can field a larger mass of undisciplined warriors. The Greek period is probably the farthest back you could go and make it enjoyable.

What about a larger scale Empire sort of thing, with Africa and China in it, maybe go up to the period with the Russo Japanese war maybe?
So yeah, this is how I've been playing.
Yeah, I find myself doing the same, until my fiancee finds the paper or Word Document I've been using to keep track of things and calls me a nerd for the next week.
There is actually Game of Thrones mod for Medieval 2 kingdoms.
It's In-Progress, but pretty much done. Here's their Preview Index, but some of those are out-of-date. Namely, Kings Landing, and maybe the Nights Watch. Plus, they do Weekly Previews, of a model, unit, maybe a settlement. All in all, it's looking beautiful. If you're going to post their, never ask for a release date(Though they are hoping for a winter release), and use as many smilies as possible.
