Is there a Darthmod for Fall of the Samurai yet?
Yeah darthmod is compatible with FOTS it even has it's own FOTS options. [editline]8th January 2013[/editline] I'm currently using alot of income on waging war on two factions, one on top of my realm and one on the bottom. Before i waged war on them, i had 11k per turn (i spent all the resources on farms and such) now it's around 3k. Can't wait to finish so that i can start making bank. Worst thing i can't support either armies because of the vast stretch they have to walk to even get to their friendly units. Let's say Darthmod doesn't go easy on you. Fights containing well over 30k units happen all the time and the AI ain't no pushover to put it lightly. I'm used to horses just attacking my spearmen like idiots. But now they actively seek out my artilleries and riflemen and take them out, even go as far as using alot of time to get behind my army to later engage my spearman from the back.
Gentlemen, I've come to a fork in the road. I'm ready for a Total War campaign again. On one hand I can start up an ETW or S2TW campaign and go from there, or I can be really dangerous and fire up Rome after all these years. Answer me this: has Rome aged well? Or will the new features and actual functioning diplomacy in the later games have spoiled me to much to enjoy it?
Rome's aged well with heavy modding, along with Medieval II (more so in my own opinion) but from a vanilla standpoint it really hasn't.

Unless you're really picky, it's aged quite finely. Some details like the replica models are noticeable, but other than that, it's really quite fine. Now the Total war games before Rome. Ha, those are terribly aged.
The whole strategy thingy has aged well. The units in the battle however, i love zooming in on the battle and see everything i great detail, combat etc. Thats why i love ETW, S2, slightly love Medieval, and totally love FOTS. Rome and medieval, not so much. :(

I ended up restarting entire battles regardless of other losses just to get them back. [editline]8th January 2013[/editline]
Gentlemen, I've come to a fork in the road. Every game from Rome to FOTS has the same army/recruitment mechanics mostly, the only drastic change that has been fucked about with off the top of my head is retraining, which Shogun 2 really screwed up by making it free but incredibly slow over time instead of "pay and replenish". Most of the changes in total war have been new features, mechanics and advances in battle technology (e.g more fluid kill animations and detail for every unit). Rome is actually a rare exception in game series' where even after playing Shogun 2 it wouldn't feel like much of a downgrade, hell in someways its more of an upgrade with the depth of all the different factions and things like Wonders of the world. Oh man, the statue of Zeus one always sent shivers down my spine watching.

And why the hell did you send a regiment of riflemens without [SUP]pikemen?[/SUP] i mean ashigaru. Totally need to get that checked out man. Different strokes for different folks, i love fighting and i want it to feel like real battles and actually have an AI that doesn't do stupid fucking shit.

Use Artillery to draw the enemy near, set up Two-Three rows of Infantry, set to crouched fire(or whatever the non moveable but faster firing mode was) and have some skirmishers like Revolver or Repeater horses on the flanks.

The thing is, compared to the newer games in the series and mods, Rome and Medieval II's AI are just bad in vanilla and diplomacy is damn near useless.
actual functioning diplomacy in the later games
What games are you playing??
The thing is, compared to the newer games in the series and mods, Rome and Medieval II's AI are just bad in vanilla and diplomacy is damn near useless.
Yeah, like when I allied with Macedon to help them against Greece, and then they betray me when my relief force arrives. What!?
What games are you playing??
"let's ally with someone and watch them stab our backs 4 turns later"
"let's ally with someone and watch them stab our backs 4 turns later"
"im gonna send you an alliance offer and 5000 gold, then enter into an alliance against you in the same turn"

I never used Spear militia in FOTS, they look ugly, ruin the modernized look of your army and are useless for anything else other than being cannon fodder that the AI might be stupid enough to target first and save your actual army. Also, placing a regiment of militia behind Riflemen weakens the strength of firepower in that part of the line, and I'd rather invest in having more line infantry so you're never feel like you're 1-2 regiments short. Maybe I'll have one unit of sabre cavalry purely as a last ditch charge unit if things go awry or if I'm chasing down routing units.
The Revolver/Repeater cav is amazingly OP with fire rate vs the muzzle loaders and you can basically just use them as mounted infantry. It's what I do.
As you move on in FOTS, you eventually reach a point where you can phase out traditional units entirely.
As you move on in FOTS, you eventually reach a point where you can phase out traditional units entirely.
For me it was when my frontline armies were composed of Marines, Riflemen and Armstrong guns while Line/Imperial Infantry was my fodder. Watching a unit of Marines unleash repeated volleys into a unit is so damn satisfying, and the first few hundred times you wipe out half a regiment with an Armstrong gun its fun there too.

I just noticed a lot of mods for TW are annoyingly complicated to install, especially for steam.
I just noticed a lot of mods for TW are annoyingly complicated to install, especially for steam.
How so? Most if not all mods I've used, for just about every game are really simple.
Started a Portuguese campaign in NTW as my foray back into Total War after a brief hiatus. I start Very Friendly with Great Britain, and Unfriendly with Spain and France. This is where shit gets funny. Immediately I secure trade rights with Britain, Prussia and Spain while I construct buildings in Lisbon and stockpile loads of cash. I then declared war on Spain and marched for Madrid. Spain decided to meet me in the field, full stack v full stack; after a well fought battle, I emerged victorious, then pressed on and took Madrid. I knew I couldn't hold it with my wounded army, so I looted the piece of shit and retreated back to Portugal with my army. This gave me a nice, cushy 30k monies to fuck around with. Boom, Great Britian declares war on me. Boom, Prussia declares war on me, Boom, Ottoman Empire (wtf??) declares war on me. Stay classy, Total War AI. So then I was really in a pickle, for not only had I just lost two trade partners, but more importantly, my potential best naval ally in the eventual war with France. Money salves all wounds, my friends. I forked over 20k to make peace with Britain, forked over 3k to make peace with Prussia, and then some undisclosed amount more to get an alliance and trade rights back with GB. I also sent some money Napoleons way to ensure he broke his alliance with Spain (which he quickly reestablished, by the way). With all parties much richer and me much poorer, I was happy enough to send my rejuvenated army back to Madrid to retake it from the fucking stronk Spanish full stack that retook it. They, too, met me in the field, but I autoresolved the shit out of the battle resulting in a victory so hard the Spanish asked for a peace treaty. Denied, baby. I shall keep you all posted, even if you don't give a shit, I'm gonna do it anyway.
Oh good, I love reading other peoples stories of various happenings during a campaign.
I had a story about medieval 2 and being the most advance faction in the game while everyone was using 1300 period shit, France thought it would be a sound idea to declare war on me (basically 100 years war) with its legion of knights vs my muskets and pikemen. didn't work out for France and I dissolved it into 3 territories.
Rome Barbarian campaigns are fucking awesome :v:. Love playing as the Saxons.
Quick update, securing an alliance with GB; I guess that was the ticket into the bro club, because soon after Austria and Prussia both offered alliances and trade rights which I gladly accepted. Turn after turn they then continually each tried to get me to join the war against France, which I was trying to avoid as long as possible whilst I cleaned up the fucking terribaddies known as the Spanish. Seriously their offers were hilariously insulting. "Join the war against the most powerful faction in the game, and in return you shall receive two hundred and seventy two gold pieces and a tier 1 tech!" Anyways, fast forward a few turns. Spain has been eliminated, and I bought Gibraltar from GB, uniting the Iberian Peninsula under the semen-colored Portuguese. France declared war on me (my bro's got their wish after all), so I blitzed them with three separate armies and took three french territories before saving and opening up facepunch to type this. playing on H/H in case anyone is wondering.
i take it h/h means hard? since it's kinda funny seeing someone actually getting stomped by the AI
Hard campaign, Hard battle difficulty, so yes, hard. And hey man, when you play as minor factions, anything is possible. I've gotten my ass handed to me by the A.I. several times across ETW/NTW/S2TW while playing as minor factions, but that risk is half the fun for me :-)
Does the Roma Surrectum mod just update models and textures or is it its own campaign?
