Total War Megathread V.2: "All of Christendom Will be Awed by this Megathread!"

It changes a bunch of shit around in the campaign and adds things, so it's kind of a total conversion that changes a lot of things.
Rome is a singular entity and the game starts at a different point and etc.
Hard campaign, Hard battle difficulty, so yes, hard.
And hey man, when you play as minor factions, anything is possible. I've gotten my ass handed to me by the A.I. several times across ETW/NTW/S2TW while playing as minor factions, but that risk is half the fun for me :-)
Yeah i was afraid of looking like an asshole, keep writing. Your way of writing is actually pretty fun to read. And the fact that you actually had to buy your way to peace is pretty funny :v:

No worries, you didn't come off as an asshole. I'm not a pro or anything, I probably couldn't handle VH/VH, the A.I. bonuses just become too much for me to handle.
Thank you for the compliment by the way.
Does the Roma Surrectum mod just update models and textures or is it its own campaign?
It changes everything in the game. Everything.

I was just conquering the filthy Achaeans and so called "Free Greeks" as Sparta.
I've only played it as Rome and I've never been able to destroy Carthage, they always bottle themselves up in Spain with 20 units mobs everywhere.

I cant figure out how to get Hannibal out of Rome, of course I may be forgetting parts of history.

Shame I just wanted some skins really.
What's the "Beginner" faction in RS2. Also, it seems like the units have a hard time following orders. Like going a different place to where I send them, etc. Is it because I have the synched animations off, or what?
I cant figure out how to get Hannibal out of Rome, of course I may be forgetting parts of history.
Infact, Hannibal's downfall was the fact he did not directly assault Rome while he still had the advantage, the Roman's didn't make the same mistake when it was their turn to invade.
Looking back, I kinda chuckle at how amazingly simple strategy was back then.
Like, Hannibals super strategy was basically just flank with cav or elephants.
Fucking page peasant, but anyway.

Behold, my ungodly big army.
That's fucking awesome! :D

Romans are the best faction to learn RS2 with, since they're the main focus of the mod. They start off in a pretty tough position though, with hannibal and rebellions. If by beginner you mean easiest starting faction, then I'd say Carthage, Spartans, or Samatarians if you want a different style of combat.
Also I'd suggest playing on 1 turn, since 0 turn turns into a huge spamfest with tons of long battles.
Gentlemen, I've come to a fork in the road. I'm ready for a Total War campaign again. On one hand I can start up an ETW or S2TW campaign and go from there, or I can be really dangerous and fire up Rome after all these years.
Answer me this: has Rome aged well? Or will the new features and actual functioning diplomacy in the later games have spoiled me to much to enjoy it?
Wait to be honest I love the game but if u get this mod it makes the game so much better! http://www.moddb.com/mods/roma-surrectum-ii

Then again, battles weren't exactly commanded from a top down perspective IRL

Still, you have to wonder how much tougher it was to communicate movements back then, and how coordinated an army of that size would have to be to do such a manuever. Even before radio and all the shit we have today, before that we had buglers and before that we had banners and flags. Back then, they didn't have shit, and what they did have was only used by the best generals. Ancient armies were more like massive warbands than modern regimented armies.
More or less. "Line up at this hill and wait for them to come charging."
I really hope they do something about snowballing in rome 2, so far its been the same way in every total war game. The first bit of the game is incredibly fun, but then you hit infinite money and built up regions, which makes it completely boring. I'd have no clue how they would fix it though.
AI's cause rebellions with propaganda.

Flags and brass instruments aren't a new invention.

You should watch Jefmajors let's play of the game
He has a really hard time with it

Well part of it might Be because he thought walls were only a defensive upgrade rather than an expansion upgrade

Fantastic lper, but he was mainly just facing stack after stack being pumped out by the AI. I guess in a sense its fair since the player can do the same and sort of helps the snowballing, but it doesnt make for good gameplay in the late game.
Also in rome, walls were just a defensive upgrade. There was a sort of governmental building, like a governors villa, imperial palace, etc you would build to expand the city.

In medieval 2 walls were an expansion upgrade

Besides, wasn't hannibal best known for his traps before combat? Like how he completely ambushed the romans at lake trasimene?
And the pincer move he did at Cannae was also pretty neat.

Don't forget Trebia!
Also I am liking this newfound activity in this thread.
Guys, I took Paris with three Portuguese full stacks. Looted that shit for 49k.
They rebelled with three full stacks...epic battles for Paris were just had.
Austria and Prussia sneakily made peace with France, but a lump sum of 5k quickly saw them at war with the Frenchies again.

Wonder if Total War would be any fun if you had to command an army like that.
You would only be told of an approximate strength and mix of units based on the scouts/agents you send forward and you would have to set tactics for your units based on the little information you would actually get.
Then again, battles weren't exactly commanded from a top down perspective IRL
You could just stand on a hill.
if I'm always outnumbered I tend to form a triangle in the corner on the map or a circle on a hill and leave a few troops to flank and divert enemy units. Making the enemy run to you exhausts them and making them divert troops also wastes time for them and gives you breaks from assaults.
Always take horsemen, they're like gods gift on a battlefield.
Anyone know if it's still possible to get a hand on Campaign MP for Empire: Total War?
You guys heard of Tsardom Total War? A MTW2 mod that will concentrate on the Balkans, Central Europe, Italy and the Ottomans.
They released a video for one of the factions not long ago, looks great.
