You guys heard of Tsardom Total War? A MTW2 mod that will concentrate on the Balkans, Central Europe, Italy and the Ottomans.
They released a video for one of the factions not long ago, looks great.

For some reason I can never use light cav effectively
Even if I really flank a line infantry good by the end of the engagement I'll have still have lost 8 or so guys even if it was a "hit and run" type thing. It's unacceptable for one single engagement.
Would you guys be interested if I made a complete guide of how to use units for Empire Total War?

Agreed they always seem to be annihilated, I always use heavy.
Once you upgrade your artillery in NTW and have a few experience bars on them coming in cheap, I use them (I normally use 6lbers) to make up half the army.
Then I have them all fire on a single unit at a time (preferably the general first), working on the cavalry and artillery first.
Once their infantry gets into range, I get them switch to grapeshot to force their already demoralized line infantry to flee.

Nothing more satisfying than getting all your artillery up on a hill, then waiting to fire until they get close, utterly annihilating and almost instantly routing an army of 1500 men

with canister shot of course
Looking back, I kinda chuckle at how amazingly simple strategy was back then.
Like, Hannibals super strategy was basically just flank with cav or elephants.
Actually Hannibal had a knack for baiting the Romans into fighting on favorable terrain (Battle of Lake Trisimene comes to mind.)
Hell, I remember one particular case where he specifically had his soldiers polish up their shields and be deployed facing the rising Sun, thus blinding the Roman lines as they approached.
Edit: Aaaand completely overlooked the earlier discussion about Hannibal's tactics.
European/American Troops
Skirmishers are useless for everything except harassment in big battles. They have too little numbers to actually do bulk fighting and are pretty true to their name, great for dealing with generals if you need a quick way to pick off their cavalry general but yeah.
Line infantry, like in Shogun 2 the musket armed troops. Except these ones are very professional and will be essentially your core fighting unit. If you don't want to fight every battle in Europe, just put together a solid two armies of these and march on everything together. Four thousand men in two armies can blitz in most situations.
Cannons, these are shock value mostly. When a regiment of 120 men almost completely gets blown up, they get pretty scared. Not much to say on cannons, but use shrapnel when you get it. Howitzers are amazing for dealing with forts. You have to wait until about 1750 until you get them. Rockets are long range and you have to wait until about 1780 to even use them, but they rip shit apart.
Light Cavalry are great for harassment like skirmishers, but do not use these like a set of heavy cavalry. Basically their melee skirmishers on horses.
Heavy Cavalry, major shock troops. They guys will barrel into a regiment of line infantry and send about 10 men flying to their deaths. Amazing if you flank them and ram them into their behind. Makes for one hell of show.
Militia: Cannon fodder really, if used if numbers they can be overwhelming. I’d suggest not using these to take any forts. But because of the sheer amount of these buggers you get their great for making a massive ambush and having about 1000 muskets devastating one or two ‘professional’ regiments. That is, if you can get the AI’s line infantry into your militia’s range.
Maratha Confederacy and the Mughal Empire troops.
64-lber Great Guns are in this category alone because, well European nations don’t get them. They are mostly used to batter the fuck out of forts. Using these on enemy troops is like taking Thor’s hammer and using it on some glass.
Camel Nomads are the replacements for cavalry, just your standard in-between light and heavy. These can be interchanged for both roles. Do not use these as a main melee force.
Lancer Cavalry, this is where it gets interested. Most European nations do not receive lancers, except for one or two. These guys will rape most infantry if used right, on light infantry it’s more or less like taking candy from a baby except it kills them very quickly.
Elephants are where shit goes down, and it is not reversible. Imagine heavy cavalry getting battered by these guys, 1.5 thousand pound horses going flying. Use these on anything you fucking want.
Melee infantry differs from professional swordsmen’s to mobs, which I’ll explain soon. They have no use unless the enemy is using swords as well. Use these as fall back, as if your infantry is getting pounded and you need something to take the hits.
Militia and Mobs are nearly the same, but the militia has guns, and you get at max 120 of them. Now imagine 200 men rushing you with pitch forks, or how many regiments are rushing your measly shit.
I'll make a guide to ships when I'm fully awake.
getting experience on your artillery is very important, especially when targeting those mass formations.
So I'm playing Empire Total War with Darthmod, and I'm on the Way to Independence campaign at Episode 1. I forged an alliance and trading with the Iroqois, but now it's telling me that I can make more money by trading with other nations. Thing is, there is no other nation other than the indians on the list

Because Ep 1 is only you and the Indians. Ep 2 you run into another tribe, the French, and the English. Ep 3 is essentially 13 colonies Grand Campaign.
I think that Total War has the most annoying advisors ever

Thanks, I really needed to know exactly what farms do for the eleventy-seventh time thank you very much
Shogun is the worst imo. I can only handle super slow and thickly accented help from the woman adviser for a few minutes before turning it off.

Well shit, I meant Episode 2.
I thought I'd be able to trade with the English at least, but not even that works.
Also I'm getting my ass handed to me by Louisburg.
Can anyone recommend a good mod for rome? I've already played the hell out of RS2 and EB and can't find the motivation to start a new campaign in those two.
Do you guys think that Darthmod really adds much to Fall of the Samurai?
I havent tried it. Fall of the Samurai is kinda like Rome to me.
You really don't need mods and it's already perfect on its own.

I always shut that woman and leave combat advisor on full from Rome to Medieval 2 kingdoms. His voice is just goddamn good.
From Empire to Shogun that too gets shut up.
Knowing Total War's tendency for bad advisors, I turned them off completely when I first started playing Shogun 2. Not knowing how the game differed from the other's did make the first few campaigns interesting.

Try playing Lusted's Terra Expugnandae, its pretty awesome.

was playing a siege earlier and the enemy had lots of catapults vs wooden walls, fucking informing me every 5 seconds the walls have been broken with a cap panning.
The combat advisors are ok imo, it's good to know when units are routing, when your/their general dies, and I like it when they say "Your victory is assured, sir!", it just makes me feel accomplished.
I have a problem with Shogun 2.
It refuses to start up for whatever reason, just showing the steam box for about 5 seconds and then vanishes.
I tried reinstalling it twice but that doesn't seem to help.

Any mods?
Playing as the Italian States in ETW is practically cheating once you buy Naples.

I keep crashing when I get to the load screen that takes you to the main menu. Its a shame because I wanted to try out the gorgeous new Workshop maps I'd seen. The only mod I have is cost reduction one to make my next campaign intense far quicker, the early game of Shogun, FOTS or not just feels so boring as you're only waiting for the fun stuff and you're incredibly stressed having to manage 2-3 provinces and consider your next conquest and the repercussions of it (by the third province I find either noone else is at war with you or you need to go across water to another island) while thinking about goddamn rebellions.
I hate rebellions in FOTS. I modernized as fast as I could and that meant every other fucking turn a city or a castle or two would rebel with a militia stack and wreck my industry if my army in that province wasn't big enough yet to take them on. Of course its all a joke by the time you get Armstrong guns because even one battery is enough to wipe the floor with half of a militia army.
so kokura decides to have a little rebellion, and tries to attack one of my main armies with about 10 spear levies

Some of my most fun ETW campaigns have been as the Italian States and the Genoese.

Note the impending war myself and superpower Russia. It was a war that was never to be, since there was no way in hell I was going to play that shit out. This was from April 18th, 2011.
