Anyone know how to fix the brightness and contrast of SOC. It feels like Killing Floor, in that the blacks are dark greys and if you darken it in the engine it simply clamps the blacks and more of the screen goes grey.
It's like the game is using levels 15-235 rather than 0-255.
Example:
It isn't completely black in game. On the left is from the fraps screenshot, I assume it captures it right. On the right is sort of how it looks. My monitor has some fantastic black levels, but you don't see it come through in this game.
the big problem with RPG fans is that they don't like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. because of it's style. While in some games you have the "hey, you wanna be awesome? THEN YOU BETTER LEVEL THE FUCK UP!", while in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. you have "Here's a gun with x and y stats, here's your armor with a and b stats, go kill shit and soon you'll be a man that kicks ass with a big fucking gun in that shiny new armor that waits for you at the end of the quest!"
I sure like OOC character development way better than the character leveling up.
Why would I like to be someone in the start that knows less and is less skilled than I am?
Just finished a sit-down with CoP. I love every second of it.
The problem with anti-radiation artifacts is that they are rare. Jellyfishes, Twists and Bubbles are hard to come by.
[editline]11:22PM[/editline]
And by the time you can buy them from Beard, you've already got them. The first part of the game mostly relies on Anti-Rads and Vodka.
[editline]11:24PM[/editline]
But, If I remember correctly - minor artifact spoiler - [sp]There should be a Jellyfish in the Claw Anomaly right in the middle of Zaton. Near the Gas Station.[/sp]
Bubbles are incredibly common at swamps
I just realized that if I bought CoP on steam and add -windowed to the launch parameters that I could play it. Now I just need to get it somehow.
[editline]04:18PM[/editline]
It's not on steam? :emo:
What the hell am I going to do guys? I can't afford to get a new graphics card, I don't even know if that it the problem.
You can do that to a normal shortcut
It really helps when you're a gamer, doesn't it? Also...
YOU MUST SPAWN MORE OVERLORDS...

We require more minerals
Is CoP supposed to be on Steam? I can't find it there.
:iiam:
I don't know why I still play ShoC even tough I have CoP already.

Today I got my english essay back, 46/50 points yeaah.
Guess what I wrote about, yes, the zone.
The teach said that "you have great language and it's unbeliavable that you wrote 2 pages in 45 minutes!"
I'm proud of myself.
Internet and games are pretty useful to learn english.
@Cal
Can you post that essay here? Since, well... you said it was about the Zone? :v:

It's frigging 2 pages man :v:
Well wait for a few minutes.
[editline]03:21PM[/editline]
Plus it wasn't a story, it was more like a news flash about the zone.
And I didn't remember everything about the zones story so.. It has some flaws.
[editline]03:41PM[/editline]
Okay, my essay
I wish I were a Stalker in the Zone
(please don't misunderstand the title, you'll understand after you've read the essay)
The Zone is an imaginary area around Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant created by a game company called GSC. The Zone is a dangerous place filled with mutants, anomalies (which are like traps, I'll explain about them later) and radiaton. The Zone appeared a few months after the Chernobyl NPP failure. The military had evacuated everyone and sealed the area within 30 kilometers. Soldiers were guarding the perimeter so that no-one would go to the irradiated Zone.
One day, the sky suddenly started glowing red and deadly fallout swept over the Zone. All the soldiers guarding the perimeter died and the Zone changed forever. A group of scientists ran into the Zone to examine this weird phenomenon. What they saw there would change the world, forever.
The Zone became famous, people sneaked pass the military checkpoints and started exploring the wasteland. They found anomalies and artefacts. Anomalies are like deadly traps. They break the laws of physics their existence. There are different types of anomalies, some "explode, some twist the molecules so rapidly that the result is a weird gooish mess.
Artefacts however, possess amazing powers. They have the ability to change the human body, i.e. reduce the effects of hunger or other primary needs. Some of them heal.
The people who sneaked pass the military started calling themselves 'Stalkers'.
Stalkers sell the artifacts to the outside world, risking their life they get around the anomalies to get the expencive artefacts.
The radiation, of course, affected the fauna of the Zone, and created new terrifying creatures. A Stalker wouldn't survive in the Zone without a weapon. This is where the Black Market struck.
They invaded the zone and set up safe havens for Stalkers. The Black Market started selling weapons and other equipment to the Stalkers. The result was a catastrophe.
Money and weapons in a place without any laws is a terrible combination. Stalkers started creating factions, and those factions started a war against each other.
So the life of a Stalker got a lot harder, in addition to anomalies, radiation and mutants, humans emerged.
'Stalking' the Zone was getting very dangerous. And that attracted all kinds of people, daredevils who wanted to try their luck, gun nuts who who just wanted to shoot something, and of course outlaws. The outlaws created their own faction, Bandits.
The dangers of the Zone, the mystery around it makes me want to go there. There's just something so interesting about it. Although it would most certainly mean a certain death for me. Unfortunately it doesn't exist, but it might be a good thing that it doesn't. I'll just keep dreaming and play the game where this intereting world exists.

Wow, 2 pages really look small in that form.
Yea, it DOES look small!
Oh yea, and the last part is achievable, you just don't get the anomalies, artifacts and mutants.
It would actually be nice to go to the Zone of Alienation right now, just to see what it looks like after so many years.

Yeah, I want to see Chernobyl before I die.
Yea, when it'll be like, 2060, we'll take our grandchildren there and say "You see, this is how Europe looked 80 years ago! But it was also more radioactive."
Want to go there to.
By the way 2 pages in 45 minutes isn't that much.

Compared to the others it is.

By that time all chernobyl will be is a pile of rubble.
"THIS IS WHAT RUSSIA LOOKED LIKE DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR. ONLY LESS MODERN"
By the way, where are you from?
Aaaaarggh, I have to fucking rip and tear my way throught the Bar in order to get to the Dark Valley.

Well that makes things certainly more interesting. I'm planning on joining Freedom just because of that :v:
What's with CoP's botched release? I can't find it anywhere, there was no hype or advertisements coming up to its English release either...
I know this is the STALKER thread, but I preordered Metro 2033 on Steam. :D

Don't worry. SHoC and CS are staying installed, and I'll get CoP when it's released on Steam (if it's going to).

The Zone I'm telling about in that essay isn't real.
I heard Metro 2033 is gonna have a Russian w/English subtitles option. That's how I'll play if it's true.
