Paladin / Priest, a good starting two
I much prefer the ranger types, or perhaps a mage. They may not be the best starting classes (especially mages) but it's always more fun to play how you want, not by how's best.
It's more fun to play a character that you're not attached to, so when they die you don't feel so bad.

To each their own.

That's no fun, I want to care about my character, and other characters too. Not liking them is caring too
i have always wanted to play first edition so count me in! i am on break for now so i can get up any time on time. is it okay if i am a wizard or is it hard?
1e class is more defined by what you roll
I was rooting around some old file directories of mine and rediscovered my .pdf copies of the various Dark Heresy manuals. If anyone happened to be interested, I would be willing to GM a campaign on a weekly basis sometime soon.
My last group of players had a campaign which lasted around 3 months where they seemed to have a blast.

I had (HAD) the books as well :v:
Count me in if it's on Fridays, same time as my game, otherwise I can't.
Or saturdays, or sundays, but I need to know the time.
Still waitin' on that fuzzy feelin'. That sounds llike a good name for a Beatles song.

Sunday early on GMT time would be nice. Also, the books should be there.

Old gold:
Eric was playing a Neutral Paladin in Ed's game. He was on some lord's lands when the following exchange occurred:
ED: You see a well groomed garden. In the middle, on a small hill, you see a gazebo.
ERIC: A gazebo? What color is it?
ED: (Pause) It's white, Eric.
ERIC: How far away is it?
ED: About 50 yards.
ERIC: How big is it?
ED: (Pause) It's about 30 ft across, 15 ft high, with a pointed top.
ERIC: I use my sword to detect good on it.
ED: It's not good, Eric. It's a gazebo.
ERIC: (Pause) I call out to it.
ED: It won't answer. It's a gazebo.
ERIC: (Pause) I sheathe my sword and draw my bow and arrows. Does it respond in any way?
ED: No, Eric, it's a gazebo!
ERIC: I shoot it with my bow (roll to hit). What happened?
ED: There is now a gazebo with an arrow sticking out of it.
ERIC: (Pause) Wasn't it wounded?
ED: OF COURSE NOT, ERIC! IT'S A GAZEBO!
ERIC: (Whimper) But that was a +3 arrow!
ED: It's a gazebo, Eric, a GAZEBO! If you really want to try to destroy it, you could try to chop it with an axe, I suppose, or you could try to burn it, but I don't know why anybody would even try. It's a @#$%!! gazebo!
ERIC: (Long pause. He has no axe or fire spells.) I run away.
ED: (Thoroughly frustrated) It's too late. You've awakened the gazebo. It catches you and eats you.
ERIC: (Reaching for his dice) Maybe I'll roll up a fire-using mage so I can avenge my Paladin.
At this point, the increasingly amused fellow party members restored a modicum of order by explaining to Eric what a gazebo is. Thus ends the tale of Eric and the Dread Gazebo. It could have been worse; at least the gazebo wasn't on a grassy gnoll.
This still stands, I've decided to use a more beginner friendly character generation, it's one of the ones recommended in the DMG and it's quite amusing.
So if you're interested and want to know more / talk rules / have questions swing on by. Seiteki is pumped, I'm pumped, Chao is pumped. It'll be good times

Dark Heresy is a brilliant starter into WH40k gaming. Mechanically, though, Black Crusade beats it out of the water easily, fixing glaring issues like assault rifles doing more damage than a bolter.

Whomever wrote the plot for Mask of the Betrayer must be some kind of superior human being with divine powers of awesomeness, it is the only explenation for how good this is.

Uhh...
You kinda have to join it. Just use a web client.

But the thing is, and the reason I like the systems so much, is that you can kind of smoosh them together and it still works.
You can play DH with the rules from BC and the gear from DW, and it all sort of blends in a workable way.
You're not using Steam or something else?
Steam doesn't have a dice roll mod, does it?
We're going to be playing over IRC, it offers unparalleled flexibility for oldschool D&D, by which I mean combat is streamlined and you don't have a battlemat with minis.
The only difficult part will be implementing the standard mapping system, IE someone is a cartographer and uses grid paper to map out the dungeon.
With IRC you run two rooms, #ooc and #ic, in the ooc you declare all your actions and you preform all your rolls, in IC you exclusively talk IC and use /me to dictate actions.
It creates a good atmosphere for storytelling and makes beautiful logs which can be saved and archived.
