Situation: Tasked with clearing a swamp of Boliwogs for a king. Likelihood of success in combat: Unlikely. Solution: Operation Scooby Doo. Me (A dwarf cleric), the fighter, and the wizard, decided to clear a swamp of boliwogs in a rather unorthodox manner. We scrounged the surrounding area for parts to construct a rudimentary costume to scare off the creatures ala Scooby Doo bad guy. Out of the parts found (a crocodile head, the ribcage of a boliwog, two large branches, peat, and leaves) we constructed a "Swamp Demon" costume, with the dwarf as the head, which to the Boliwogs looked probably something like this: (Image courtesy of the group's artist) While in reality, to those with an intelligence score over 6, it would probably look like this: We entered the swamp with about 8 of them just looking at us, all the while we were screaming and swearing and casting bolts of light while the party wizard hidden in the background was providing special effects for us. Needless to say they ran away like no tomorrow, screaming in terror at the fearsome swamp demon. Now, presumably, there will be hushed tales told around the campfires of a most fearsome and deadly demon, lurking within the dankest of swamps, devouring creatures and travelers foolish enough to come across it. At least until the day some meddling kids show up with a dog and ruin everything.
The system is based off D&D so I guess it's alright to post this here. Short background story: Our group arrived in Pewter City and three of us headed off to Route 3 in search of a Ranger Outpost to place an arrest warrant on our forth member (stole money, items and a Torkoal from a Hiker/former-Ranger). My character stayed behind with him, not buying the evidence that was placed on him, and we ended up tackling the Pewter Gym. His reasons to fight was to strengthen his Pokémon while I fought desperately with the intentions of winning money to spend on food. He ended up annihilating Brock's Onix and Aron with a type advantage and after winning continued to taunt Brock's weak Pokémon. Brock didn't like this. Not. One. Bit. Brock challenged our party member to a rematch with his reserve Steelix and proceeded to annihilate his team, with his disobediant Ursaring tearing into his flesh and securing him a few hours in the hospital. Finally I got my turn to battle Brock, and while he was having his second battle he had his previous Pokémon healed and I fought one of the Gym Trainers there and won enough money for one meal. That's fine and dandy because my Oddish only needs photosynthesis to feed on and my (future) Geodude only needed rocks to live on, the same couldn't be said for my Whismur. So for the sake of getting everyone feed I challenged Brock to a quick battle. [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/31693224/Pokemans/whis.PNG[/t] (just so we know what a Whismur looks like) The main issue I was going to have with this fight was that although my Oddish wouldn't have much issue taking out Rock and Ground types, my Whismur was horribly underleveled and had very low base stats to start with, the only redeeming factor was it's egg move Hammer Arm... but we will get to that latter (you might even figure out how this ends with that in mind). The match started off rather straight forward, my Oddish was making the most out of the long starting distance by spreading Sweet Scent and Stun Spore, meeting with success and failure while Brock's Sandshrew closed the gap started to tear into Oddish. A quick Absorb attack sorted that issue out. Next he sent out his Aron and losing my type advantage, Oddish was shortly defeated. Then it was make or break time, battle with my Whismur and face incredible odds, or forfeit and save my Whismur the pointless beating that would happen. Either option would leave me pennyless so I went with the battle anyway, sending him out as close to Aron as possible to force a melee confrontation. Aron was the faster one, getting off a Tackle attack and sending Whismur's HP down from 28 to 8, which Whismur retaliated with a 47 fighting damage Hammer Arm. The following is an excerpt from the battle log: "Roamach's mighty punch, passed down through generations, ferociously tears the iron mask off of Aron. It's entire body is thrown around twenty-five metres away and it falls off of the elevated platform that you are fighting on, falling an additional four metres before crashing into the hard rock ground that is the floor of the rock gym. It's body doesn't move after the landing. It's mask, creepy as hell, is lying two metres away from you and your Whismer." [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/31693224/Pokemans/Roa%20kills%20Aron.jpg[/t] (green being me, red being Brock, pink Whismur and the square in front of us being the mask, dare I say what the X is?) So thanks to 4x weakness to fighting attacks, Whismur ended up reducing Aron to below -200% of it's max HP and not even a savings roll could save it from surviving the attack. Sure, we've had one of us explode a Geodude with his mind, had their Scyther cleave a Zubat in half and even drain the life out of a Teddiursa but those were just wild Pokémon. I murdered a Gym Leader's Pokémon by accident. I ended up winning by forfeit and won myself the Boulder badge, as well as a Pokémon Egg that was wagered against my food money. Needless to say, Brock ended up distraught as fuck after the battle and just wanted to be left alone. And that ends my little story so far, I ended up inheriting the mask that used to belong to the Aron and I've got plans to fashion it to be wearable for the Whismur, as a reminder of no matter how small the package may seem to be, never ever underestimate the hidden potential of certain moves. [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/31693224/Pokemans/Aron-Mask.png[/t]
ye never underestimate a 100 base power 4x effective move in a low level battle
What we'll play: Pathfinder (Kingmaker) What we hope: Flourishing Kingdom What we expect: 10 turns, everything in flames, another 3 turns, everything replaced by a crater Party Cell, Kingmaker edition. [editline]17th May 2012[/editline]
had their Scyther cleave a Zubat in half
It was an accident, and he's still in shock from it
It was an accident, and he's still in shock from it
Everything has been an accident so far, that Shinx was extremely lucky to walk away with only a smashed skull from that Iron Tail.
And then my childhood was ruined.
Fuck, pokemon DnD? I want some of that.
the system's flawed, i mean horribly flawed, there's classes that are obviously superior to other classes, some that are totally useless, things like that it's still fun if you don't try to break the game
My character has this as a tattoo on the dorsal side of his left hand, let's see how long until he's getting beaten with a stick for his beliefs. [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12875849/Kingmaker/asmodeus_and_co.png[/t]
Dark Heresy tomorrow?
Would anyone be interested in hearing about my d20 Modern Steampunk Apocalypse Campaign? :v:
Dark Heresy tomorrow?
Yes. Yes it is. 1pm GMT-6.
Would anyone be interested in hearing about my d20 Modern Steampunk Apocalypse Campaign? :v:
Don't ask, just speak.
So I recently ordered the Beginner Box for Pathfinder (before you mention that you could play by using something like this: I might be able to do so but I want to make it as easy as possible for my friends (who have never played D&D or anything similar before in their life)) and since I'm the only one of them who has at least a bit of experience with D&D I'll be GM-ing. Does anyone have any good tips for when I do so? Things to read and videos are great too. It'll be at least 9 more days (damn shipping) until it arrives so I have plenty of time to decently prepare. Thanks in advance.
So recently me and my group of friends have participated in a D20 Modern Steampunk style Apocalypse campaign, that I've mostly designed myself with a bunch of mostly inspire ideas from other sources. It was a group of 4 that we started out with, and I had them start in the present time. The world's economy was so bad that they had all been forced into criminal activity (This allowed me to let them have custom storylines, whilst keeping them together towards on goal). Tonight, they were going to rob a private bank for the Conciergo family. They would be dropped Via helicopter on the roof, and have to plant several c4 charges in differing areas on the floors whilst maintaining a stealthy approach for as long as they could. Armed with Silenced pistols, they made their way from floor to floor, taking out guards and catching them before their body could hit the floor and make too much noise. Eventually they disguised themselves as typical civilians, tricked a couple of guards, pulled the fire alarm in the main lobby and then triggered the c4, allowing a helicopter to drop in and pull out the secondary vault on the 2nd floor. They were then chased down by the police force, in a high-speed car chase, when suddenly they look to the sky to see several flaming tails of missiles in the sky, and the radio is cut off to start playing an emergency nuclear broadcast alert, they shit bricks and book it to the nearest local shelter. When they get there, the entire place is abandoned, and the SWAT team bust in through the windows, after a brief fight and some hacking, the floor opens up dropping down into the fallout shelter, which they quickly seal up. (also I play fitting music when we play that works with the scene. This was mission ones music :v: Anybody want to hear more? That was only the first mission. We've been though six now.
The moral of yesterday's dark heresy game: Never tell the psyker with spasm that the bounty hunter with a jetpack controls it via nerve signals in his leg.
The moral of yesterday's dark heresy game: Never tell the psyker with spasm that the bounty hunter with a jetpack controls it via nerve signals in his leg.
I'm sure that he will work that kink out of it before the next time he shows up. He's just got to get out of low orbit first.
I'm sure that he will work that kink out of it before the next time he shows up. He's just got to get out of low orbit first.
Can we get our spaceship to ram into him when we get back to dock?
One of my friends and my older brothers friends are all DnD addicts. I'm okay with this.
Gonna see relatives this week, boring stuff, you know? While the elders are all chatting and stuff for 6 hours, my brother and I and some others are gonna utilize every map and tileset I own and create the largest playable surface we can. From forests to swamps to snowy mountains and caves to deserts and cities and dungeons. This is gonna ROCK. We were also gonna try to come up with our own rules for a board game style Dokapon Kingdom.
Can we get our spaceship to ram into him when we get back to dock?
I will definitely consider it.
Only the power of the world's worst cleric can bring the hammer down on a house full of guards and allies for no inherent reason other than to say I could. Plus it was funny as hell seeing you trip balls on the obscura.
On my way home from work I've been thinking about Dark Heresy, then Can You Feel The Love Tonight? from the Lion King soundtrack comes on. This goes out to my Dark Heresy group. [Brynjolf:] I can see what's happening [Janus:] (What?) And they don't have a clue [Zarkov:] (Who?) They'll fall in love and here's the bottom line Our trio's down to two. [J:] (What about Zar-) Ze sweet caress of the warp There's chaos everywhere And with all this heretical atmosphere Disaster's in the air [MH:] Can you feel the warp tonight? The war the evening brings The Imperium, in perfect harmony With all it's citizens [Malek:] So many things to tell her But how to make her see The truth about MY MIND?!?! Impossible! She'd spasm away from me [Heretic:] He's holding back, he's hiding But what, I can't decide Why won't he be the psyker I know he is The daemon I see inside? [MH] Can you feel the warp tonight? Anyone here interested in any of the WoD games? Old or new?
Anyone here interested in any of the WoD games? Old or new?
The setting and fluff gives me a boner, but I've yet to come across a group I'd want to play in.
The setting and fluff gives me a boner, but I've yet to come across a group I'd want to play in.
Well, two people isn't much of a group... and I'm not much of an ST. Interested in playing Vampire (o/nWoD), Changeling(n/oWoD), or Wraith. Maybe Werewolf (o/nWoD).
Anyone here interested in any of the WoD games? Old or new?
Ventrue snob here. Toreadors are losers.
