So we started our D&D today. The STALKER one. So it started off pretty normal, nothing too interesting. On the way to find some bandits they encounter three boar and upon failing to sneak around them are attacked. Our Criminal guy jumps up a tree and hides the entire time, while our Spiritualist is gutted and almost dies and our Profiteer does most of the fighting. Our Spiritualist with the help of a rope gets into the tree too, boars fail to knock it down. They all die and as one is fleeing Spiritualist fires a single shot into the back of it's head. They heal and go to the garbage, someone clutching their stomach waves them over. Pulls a gun out on Criminal, Profiteer cuts his arm off with a machete and a shot grazes our criminal. They follow a map on him into the woods. Criminal and Profit disguise as bandits, Criminal uses a skill to mimic the bandit leader (who mugged them and was killed) to get into the bandit shack where his two friends are. Profit convinces one of them to come with him to check a noise outside and shots him in the head with a silenced pistol. Criminal drinks vodka and smokes pot, than players Russian roulette, when it's his turn there is a round ready to fire and he uses it to shoot the bandit. They head back to Cordon, encounter a blowout and hide. Afterwards a mutant stampede is coming for them, Criminal runs away and leaves them for dead, Profit stops to help the Spirit and when the Profit finds Criminal he's bragging about leaving them. Profit punches in him the face, breaks his guitar, Criminal fought back and threw the guitar at him, hit him with the neck of it than tackled him into a fire, burnt Profits jacket and when he got out off it he knocked Criminal out and kicked him in a head within 8HP of his life. Spirit tended to his wounds and now they're sorta pissed at one another. That's where we ended it. [editline]16th September 2012[/editline] Oh, and the Criminal cuts off and collects human arms. Only the left ones so they call him Leftie now.
Hey guys, I'm kind of interested in getting into a D&D game, but I have exactly 0% experience. I'd really like to try this out to see if I like it, but I have no idea where to start.
I've played Pathfinder, FATAL, Fudge and Ops and Tactics. I'm in a group ATM but the times we play are a bit haphazard. If you need an extra player I'll gladly jump in. I'm not picky about systems (I'll try most anything) and I like a good blend of RP, combat and puzzling. As of now I'm available most every evening. Just of note is that I'm quite forgetful so you will be taking on someone who may forget a rule or two, don't mind being reminded though.

Why would you do that to yourself?
You've actually played FATAL? Why would you do that to yourself?
Same reason why people stop and stare when they see a dead pigeon on the sidewalk.
You've actually played FATAL? Plus we were lucky in that we never had to roll for anal circumference.

They simplify a lot of things, but it still has that great dice roll/RP/Actiony feel. We should totally try to find someone to DM for us :D

So, I told you about Willard the Wizard the knife throwing circus wizard. He was a pretty high leveled wizard and a little bit of rogue multiclass. Anyways, we left off with him having this ~~orb of darkness~~ which the players needed to get so Willad wouldn't take over the world. Our resident ranger took made a natural 20 in both sneaking and in grabbing the orb out of his hand, so Willard the Wizard was deprived of some dark power. Anyways, an aside. Let me tell you what the Telekensis power "Violent Thrust" does.
Violent Thrust: Alternatively, the spell energy can be spent in a single round. You can hurl one object or creature per caster level (maximum 15) that are within range and all within 10 feet of each other toward any target within 10 feet per level of all the objects. You can hurl up to a total weight of 25 pounds per caster level (maximum 375 pounds at 15th level). You must succeed on attack rolls (one per creature or object thrown) to hit the target with the items, using your base attack bonus + your Intelligence modifier (if a wizard) or Charisma modifier (if a sorcerer). Weapons cause standard damage (with no Strength bonus; note that arrows or bolts deal damage as daggers of their size when used in this manner). Other objects cause damage ranging from 1 point per 25 pounds (for less dangerous objects) to 1d6 points of damage per 25 pounds (for hard, dense objects). Objects and creatures that miss their target land in a square adjacent to the target. Creatures who fall within the weight capacity of the spell can be hurled, but they are allowed Will saves (and spell resistance) to negate the effect, as are those whose held possessions are targeted by the spell. If a telekinesed creature is hurled against a solid surface, it takes damage as if it had fallen 10 feet (1d6 points).
So, we have someone that can throw 8 daggers at once. 1d6 each. I go easy on the players and he only throws three at a time, but regardless, he critical hits our resident druid and knocks him down immediately to 2 HP. A lucky roll blinds him, and our Paladin smashes him to bits with his hammer pretty easily. Anyways, once they are done with that, they decide to put both orbs back in their rightful place, Boatmurdered. A little background: When they got the ~~orb of light~~ from Boatmurdered in the first place, they cleared most of the evil (except the mines) out. The surviving dwarves in a nearby village decided to move in since there was apparently no evil in there. Anyways, the players have it in their head that they will put the orbs in there, and since there is so much talk about them in the kingdom now, there will be some sort of evil trying to get them to open a dimensional portal thing to unleash evil on the land, blah blah blah. So, the players singlehandedly get all their contacts to create a small city-state around and within this dwarven fortress. They recruit adventurers, linguists, workers, and mercenaries to protect this fortress and the orbs. As you can see, this turned out to be a bit stranger than I thought. I do not want to discourage them, and actually think this is really cool of them, but how should I challenge them within the fortress? They already know there is some sort of evil in the mines which was resurrecting the dead, which they will surely deal with, but what other external threats should they have to deal with?

Geez, Mutants & Masterminds's character creation, though very comprehensive, is a puzzle and an excersize in number juggling. But after going through it, the game seems like it can be very fun. Hopefully Elowin is up to the challenge of my constant questioning of world details and such.

Dam I would really like to start playing DnD. Is it possible to play online somehow? Is it hard to learn how to play it all?

You can find groups online who play through IRCs, instant messaging things, and Play By Post. [editline]18th September 2012[/editline]
Understatement of the century.
You're going to put through your paces as a GM, boy. You best be up for some training from hell.

I prefer forum based D&D over the other playing methods myself. Get far more roleplaying done that way. Although figuring out how to play 3.5 without the battle maps and what not is a true pain in the ass; still not sure how I'm going to go about it.

Yeah, my preference when playing online is virtual tabletops. Maptools and Roll20 are both pretty good for that sort of thing in my opinion.
I personally find Play-by-Post to completely ruin the feel of the game.
How so? I am curious.

[editline]18th September 2012[/editline]
How so?
Yeah, my preference when playing online is virtual tabletops. Maptools and Roll20 are both pretty good for that sort of thing in my opinion.
I can't speak for anything else, really, but Maptools is horrible.
Rolld20 is pretty good though, don't need to install anything.

Its hard for me to make a character in this type of game i want it all, but i know i need to focus a bit more but i also don't know if what i am focusing on is a good thing to focus on so whatever.
I find overspecialised characters are more fun to play. [editline]18th September 2012[/editline] Just ask Elowin, he specialises in useless crap and always has fun.
I can't speak for anything else, really, but Maptools is horrible.
That's fine, I've never had a problem with it myself however. Map building in it is kinda bitchy and slow. Guess I'm still new to virtual tabletops and such.
I don't think you ever actually hit anyone with that sonic bark.
No, I had an energy weapons skill of like 20, but it's the thought that counts!
No, I had an energy weapons skill of like 20, but it's the thought that counts!
I have 19 small guns, I rely entirely on crits and automatic fire. Which isn't too bad, I worked it out, I have a 1.2% chance of an instant kill on something, no matter what.
