Geez, Mutants & Masterminds's character creation, though very comprehensive, is a puzzle and an excersize in number juggling. But after going through it, the game seems like it can be very fun. Hopefully Elowin is up to the challenge of my constant questioning of world details and such.

Understatement of the century.
Use Hero Lab, the demo version is free and it does all the power limit calculation and junk for you. Unfortunately you can't actually save your sheet that way but if you type it out manually before quitting you'll be fine.
I have 19 small guns, I rely entirely on crits and automatic fire. Which isn't too bad, I worked it out, I have a 1.2% chance of an instant kill on something, no matter what.
I can't attack more than once with it, also I have higher chance of getting a critical failure than a critical success.
There's never any sense of urgency, it can work for some games where there's little immediate danger to the party, but climatic intense battles just do not work with post by post.
Fair enough. I suppose that would be the norm for most people; my group tends to stick with one character forever though, preferring to take the same group through all of our RP as a continuous story. After so many years of role playing with the same characters, building/evolving their character/personality and backstory, we become attached to them. So climatic battles are rather intense for us partially because we really don't want our characters to die after all this time with them, and the other part due to the personal nature of the fight (one of my friends older characters was a Necromancer that met an untimely end (fell out of a carriage and broke his neck, of all things), so obviously I made that character a Lich-like-thing that was the central focal point of one of our later campaigns; having used the same characters since then they were also fighting their lost friend, so that added some drama to it) thanks to all the plot building I have the luxury of doing. We'd probably play normally around a table if we all didn't live in different parts of the US (one of us being in Germany). And as far as playing in a virtual table top goes -- we all have wildly different work schedules and time zones, so setting a play date all of us can meet has proven ineffective. Thus far, forum playing has been the only way we can do it; and everyone likes the extra attention to detail and flavor the "slow" pace allows us anyway. I can see why it wouldn't be as thrilling for people that don't dedicate their RP to a single character, or focus more on the RP aspects over the gaming ones, though. Different strokes in the end. It's under the File tab. Take a screen shot of it, then you can do what you will with it. An example: [img_thumb]http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/5907/screenshot2012091813165.png[/img_thumb]
Yeah, I think I've had more characters die than survive a game and I'll admit to a fair amount of powergamery tendencies, because really, who doesn't like sweet loot?
Err, I think we're runing a 3rd edition game since our sheets don't have that many skills on them.
what? 3rd edition is the most recent and hero lab supports it fine
So hey everybody. I'm new to Pathfinder and I'm trying to set up a game with a few of my friends. I've played D&D before but not extensively, understand the majority of the terminology and etc, and just need clarification on a few things. If anyone wants to help me out, that'd be swell. [editline]18th September 2012[/editline] Also what do you recommend for playing with friends over the internet?
what? 3rd edition is the most recent and hero lab supports it fine
Sorry, I was just guessing from that screenshot above. Also, we're just using that SRD Elowin linked us to, not the books...
Sorry, I was just guessing from that screenshot above. Also, we're just using that SRD Elowin linked us to, not the books...
If you're referring to my screenshot; that's D&D 3.5, not M&M.
If you're referring to my screenshot; that's D&D 3.5, not M&M.
Oh, I thought those skills were ubiquious to d20 games in the D&D 3.5e days...
Oh, I thought those skills were ubiquious to d20 games in the D&D 3.5e days...
Having never played M&M I really don't know for sure. Here's a screenshot of the print preview for some pre-built profile in M&M 3rd, maybe this is closer to what you're thinking of. [img_thumb]http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/438/screenshot2012091816280.png[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/2181/screenshot2012091816305.png[/img_thumb] Anyway, point was you can "cheat" and keep the character sheet using the previously mentioned method. My group did that for a while when we were fooling around with Shadowrun.

yeah that's what I did
Is there any Pathfinder,DnD3.5 starting soon in the EU timezones soon(or already ongoing) I would really like to join.
Rolz.org hates Trogdor, he botched all his damn rolls this session.
I can really get into something like this, especially with a few friends who are as clueless about D&D as myself. Anyone know of a good virtual tabletop? Preferably one that's free.
roll20.net would probably be your best bet for a virtual tabletop
roll20.net would probably be your best bet for a virtual tabletop
Appreciate it man. Anything else I really need to know, apart from reading wikis? Like tools and such?
i only play d&d 3.5e and meet up with my friends, so i don't know too much about using virtual tabletops myself imo, the best way to get started with the game is to read the core books like the PHB and the DM guide (if you're planning on DMing of course) and then d20 srd i find to be better than the sites listed in the OP for a reference guide most on the stuff on d20 srd is the same as what the book says, and it's just a handy way to find out what certain skills, feats, and spells do if you're doing 3.5e and want an easy tool to create character sheets online, i suggest pathguy i've been using that website to create character sheets for about 5 years now that's all i got good luck on your adventures
Rolz.org hates Trogdor, he botched all his damn rolls this session.
Not surprised. Some days, our Dark Heresy sessions are just a slew of 70+ rolls for the players and 20- rolls for the DM. I am more than certain that the program gets stuck every once in a while.

Also having a Commissar, 4 Kasrkin troopers, a Tech-Priest, and a cleric all whaling on a Killa Kan at once generally won't end well. Ever. Aforementioned Killa Kan having already been tipped-over while it was hallucinating and sobbing thanks to psyker dickery.

I started a fallout PnP game with my friends, and the DM is pretty chill about us doing insane things. For example, I used my repair skill to make a pair of wrist blades for one character, and I made a giant steel beak for a super mutant in our party. Our robot doctor then rolled against doctor to implant it in the guys face. Now we have a 7 ft tall 350 lb super mutant with a beak.

It's based on true randomness, not pseudo-random algorithms. Either that or they should make a dice roll site based on random.org.

Did they figure out quantum physics all of a sudden?

The DM let us use the wild wasteland perk and someone made their character be Afro Samurai. Needless to say, a bullet ended up getting stuck in his hair and then came out and killed a nearby raider without drawing their attention. Also someone threw a rock trying to draw their attention right before that. Just a throw, nothing else. With a rock. Gets a critical success and makes the guy's head implode. After those two died and we finally managed to attack a guy without killing him, he ran in and alerted the entire camp (including our quest target, worth 5,000 caps to split between our group). Afro samurai wastes most of his AP running to the quest target and then uses the rest to slash at him. He rolls pretty good (almost critical success, but the bloody mess trait/perk made it seem like it was) and slices the guy so hard that his body split in two and is now on different sides of the battlefield. The session ended there. Also does anyone know where I can get a cheap grid mat? We were using a cramped table and Warhammer figures for our characters. I didn't really mind the latter though, as I got to be a tyrannid warrior since I was the only super mutant.
Anyone playing 3.5 at all

Also if you upload your 4E sheets you can make rolls directly from that too which is super useful.
