Joining a 4th Ed. game with a bunch of people off of a fetish website, will report back with horror stories as they happen.
Watch the tails. That's how they get you.
Does anyone have any tips on GMing and such? Me and my friends have never played D&D before, so we thought we'd try it out using the Next playtest, and it's pretty fun. We'll be taking turns in GMing different mini-campaigns and I was just wondering if it's a good idea to prepare some general descriptions and stuff, so I don't fumble around trying to describe something.

Really just have to read the book to them and add/remove whatever you want. If that's not an option, or you just don't want to bother with it, I'd suggest you at least have a general idea about what you're going to be doing. Then narrow it down to the details from there. From a mechanical standpoint I believe it is always wise to have an idea of what you're doing/talking about though, so you're not constantly flipping through books and halting the game to fact check yourself/players. Unless you thrive on making things up as you go I would write some minor notes at the least, in order to have a more consistent flow.
Had a short campaign session tonight (1st level Undermountain campaign, for anyone who missed it). Didn't get started until 9pm due to people having to work and such. Essentially, we only accomplished one battle. But how hilarious it was. Group enters room. First thing that happens is, since they sent the Rogue in first, he steps on a bunch of caltrops. Room has about 6 Orcs in it. Orcs are freaked out because they're in fucking UNDERMOUNTAIN and half of their party had gotten wiped out. They try to intimidate the party to leave. Cleric and Bard try to intimidate back, which causes the Orcs to attack in a panic. Group thinks they got this, until on the first strike the Orc criticals with a falchion doing 18 damage to the Cleric. The Cleric and the Rogue end up getting dropped (but not killed). The group barely manages to win, but they're forced to sit in that room for several days healing. They're almost out of food (They only brought a week's ration per person, and the Cleric had given his share up to a Mimic), so they're forced to return to the surface to restock and ready themselves. All in all, a great little mini-session.
Tomb of Horrors is the perfect starting adventure for first level PCs who have never played before.
We actually might do that one on Halloween this year. :v: [editline]6th October 2012[/editline] Also, if anyone wants Tomb of Horrors for D&D 3.5, you can find it here. [editline]6th October 2012[/editline] Which reminds me! Last week, my dad, sister and I all did the first re-visit adventure of that campaign we started back in 2007 that I mentioned a few pages ago. All went well, we got to scare the crap out of some unsuspecting (stone?) giants who were out on a hunting trip, we killed 4-5 fire elementals while inside a Volcano (fun), and we got to talk to a really chill, totally uncaring silver dragon. ("Oh, you're going up to battle those elementals? Okay. They were rather a bother, but since this isn't my territory, I don't particularly care, blah blah blah") Back in 2007, one of my sister's characters got slain by a displacer beast. Although we resurrected her, the attack left a lasting impression. On the way back to visit this old priest of Obad-Hai (who, back in 2007 staked us out nekkid under the moon to cure Lycanthropy), we encountered 2 displacer beasts! Needless to say, we got our revenge on the little bastards, and we killed them both without anyone dying.

Because I'm a big supporter of titty elves.

So I was reading the Street Magic splatbook for Shadowrun, mostly looking for spells that I might want to get at some point in the future, when I stumbled upon this. Well I know what spell I'm getting.
Aren't you a big supporter of anything with tits?
Not ANYTHING, but breasts in general I'm a supporter of, and I'm a supporter of elves too, so combining them is almost always a good thing.
Elves are supposed to be all graceful and elegant though, kind of hard to do that if you've got a pair of DDs going all over the place when you try to run.
Elves are supposed to be all graceful and elegant though, kind of hard to do that if you've got a pair of DDs going all over the place when you try to run.
That just means the enemies watching have to make a Will save or else become preoccupied. It all works out.

That feel when your game falls apart because of it sucking.
RIP Mutants and Masterminds game

Damn it I don't know when the fallout PnP group I'm in is going to get together again. They were thinking of this weekend but people wouldn't be able to make it due to jobs or college.
I'm really interested in playing Shadowrun or some WH40k/WH fantasy, anyone got any groups going?
My friends and I play D&D using Inkscape for battles with the DM's laptop hooked up to a projector or large TV. I made a bunch of tiles for characters, enemies, and scenery, and you can set up the canvas to snap everything to a grid. Hey guys, does anyone know if you can upgrade the strength rating on Composite Longbows (pay 100 gp after you bought the thing to get +1 to the str rating)? The rulebook isn`t quite clear on it.
If it's not in the rulebook, improvise. That's a pretty major part of being a GM.
One of the members in my group just got some insane hp. He's a ranger/fighter with 135hp and he is only 7/7. He just became the official tank of the party. This is in 2e by the way. He is horrible when it comes to the non-combat parts but when combat happens he saves the party again and again. When we are gathering clues and stuff he just goes to the tavern to chill and drink his ass off, 50% of the time he is drunk. We call him Mr. Tank. Anyway in the last adventure what happened is that the other guy who was a problem in the party was just showing off and saying how badass he was. So Mr. Tank decide to challenge him to the death because he was getting tired of this shit. And (let's call him douchebag) couldn't resist the challenge (he also didn't know how much hp Mr. Tank had). So he thought he could drop Mr. Tank in one punch and failed. He was so pissed because Mr. Tank didn't even flinch and swung at him with his Lucien hammer +3 and hit for 21 damage which was 1/3 of Douchebag's hp. This repeated until Mr Tank killed him by accident( Mr. Tank was nice and didn't want to kill anyone). Omg, Douchebag's face was priceless he was so pissed that he left the game. After a long silence everyone proceeded to slow clap. Mr. Tank you are my hero.

The rulebook isn`t quite clear on it.
If this is 3.5 we're talking about: At purchase I am fairly certain that's part of the point in using a composite ranged weapon at all. Unless you mean upgrading after the purchase at a later date; don't think it works that way. But I'd let my players do it anyway since they're paying for it regardless. I'd make them go to town though, since my explanation for the bonus would be the weapon has to be enhanced by a smith to compensate for the increased stress it will be under.
I ran a D&D Next playtest for four weeks. Right off the bat I knew things would be interesting when our fighter rolled for stats and got atrociously lucky. Seriously, 20 Strength. At level 1. Well the dice were rolled in front of me, so there were no shenanigans involved. Anyway, I'll give feedback here. I sincerely hope this doesn't start an edition war, I just want to give my input. Overall I really liked it, seemed it wants to combine the tactical gameplay focus of 4e with the large customization options of 3.x. I'm glad they brought all of the languages back (Orcs speaking Giant as a first langugae? Gnomes speaking Elven as a native tongue? come on now), but I honestly was never a fan of the 9 alignments system in all of the previous editions and I'm glad they cut them down in 4e. But eh, it's not too much of a complaint. The good: Rules are simple but they can get as complex and in-depth as the DM and party wishes. Backgrounds mean something now other than just giving you bonuses to certain skills. Each class can be played very differently and they actually feel different: a fighter with an archer specialty will be different from a fighter with the Guardian specialty. And it doesn't end there: each class in turn has a different way of playing as well. Rogue can be a thief or a thug. Warriors can be a duelist or a slayer. The war cleric has a martial bent, the sun cleric has a more AoE/buff focus. WotC openly admitted they got a lot of things wrong with 4e, and they're going to be releasing a lot more books that help with telling stories rather than more rules. I liked 4e a lot but I think they're taking a step in the right direction here. They released a pre-made adventure, Reclaiming Blingdenstone, which offers a nice mix of puzzle solving, roleplaying/social interactions, and pure combat. The bad: It's called Dungeons and Dragons and they don't have the stats for a dragon in the beta? Pffft. Aside from some minor errors I'm sure they'll fix (draconic heritage sorcerer is proficient with martial melee weapons but has a greatsword as suggested equipment), I have no major gripes so far, and neither did the players. Hell not even the player who was a stalwart Pathfinder player and hated 4e enjoyed it immensely.
Anyone have that PocketRPG rules image?
