Fourth edition gutted the spell system and joyously dances around in its hollow skin while a fog machine sends bilious clouds of sanguine mist around. Also, there are disco balls. Fourth edition spells and third edition spells are similar only in name.
Do wizards spells in 4e work the same as in 3.5? We recently added on a friend who's played before, and he made a wizard, but he didn't get to do much before. I know that in 3.5 there's a limit to how many you can cast per day, but is one of the things 4th edition changed how wizard spells work?
Wizard spells work just like how all other powers work for all other classes in 4th edition.
Wizard spells work just like how all other powers work for all other classes in 4th edition.
Makes me want to play 3.5/Pathfinder even more. Thanks for all the help though.
Being OP is boring in my opinion.
Quite so. Especially when everyone else made characters that can't match it. Skews group balance in fights, and as much as I love tough fights I don't want to put a big badass brute in every encounter simply to keep the OP PC busy while the other players get to actually play.
I always thought OP characters were an option for excellent roleplaying. The DM could make everyone fear this supernaturally strong hero, not being able to listen to him without trembling or fleeing, the other PC's could become jealous, or abuse him by letting him solve the hardest tasks alone.
I'm doing RPing for the first time (Pathfinder) and I didn't want to take it seriously, so: One day I forgot my character sheet and threw this one together.

Avoids drama that could otherwise become unnecessarily hateful later on; my group would find a way of killing him anyways in order to not be shackled to the whims of another player. As my group is comprised solely of long time friends that are also friends with each other, no one wants to be "that guy" either -- they prefer working together. It also runs the risk of making the other players useless. A good DM tries to make everyone useful but I personally have to keep logical integrity of the campaign; can't have traps in every building because Mr. OP can't disarm them and it'll give a Rogue something to do for once -- doesn't make sense as our D&D is more grounded than normal. As someone that spends a good deal of time making OP characters (in order to see the signs of someone making them) you can eventually reach a point of designing the campaign around what the OP character can't do, and then shoveling in things for everyone else to do (which is why I banned most of the magic classes in our campaign). My players are too logical for that; I can only get away with it a few times before they see patterns and become bored and irritated. Soon as one of my players says "Would X really have/do Y? Doesn't make much sense" I've lost them, anything I add is seen as an excuse for it existing and not a natural flow of the campaign world. They'd go with it, but I would see it as a failing on my part to provide them with a more life-like and realistic campaign world. But that's what you ask for when you go with a D&D game steeped more in reality (logically speaking) than fantasy, part of the territory. Come to think of it, we're pretty homebrewed out the ass now. But anyways, you could probably have a scenario as you described and have it go well; just isn't something I'd personally want to bother with.
So, I'm in a DnD campaign right now with 5 other people. 2nd edition. We are all pretty good, but we all have our flaws and most of them have never played DnD before. Luckily the DM has been easy on everyone, even though we as a team fuck up so much. I mean they never tell anyone that there is a trap there, so then everyone walks over the trap and most of us get hurt. So to pick up the slack I made a Monk/Cleric that is Lawful good, that way no one dies to quick because we have no one to heal us except me. Now only 2 of us has Royally fucked up so far. The first time was because I wanted to make sure the DM could react to any situation so, but we all coped through. The second time is happening right now and one of the members of the party is a werewolf. Her kind was hunted down in the world we are in so everyone in this world hates and fears them. She thought it would be a good idea to go and transform and run around in the Capital. Sadly instead of staying in her "dog" form she kept transforming in front of the guards. I just don't know what to do now. My character that I'm playing would either hunt her down and bring her to Justice or go and talk to her into turning herself in. What path should I take?
heh rangers caring about arrows THIS http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=454409 is how you make rangers
Play an Orc, grab 2H Fighter archetype for double strength on damage, and be rolling around in something like 1d10+20 damage at level 4 with a trip+reach weapon and +12 to CMB for trip attacks. Granted, I haven't really made that character yet because I'm having plenty of fun playing a pirate-themed Gunslinger.
Now only 2 of us has Royally fucked up so far. I'd personally see if I could find justification in having known or trusted the lycanthrope long enough for my character to open himself to the idea that perhaps they aren't all pure evil and follow a higher law than that of man, but my DM is also very loose with alignment and acknowledges a lot of gray areas.

If she is just causing a hassle to the guards but not actively harming anyone inform her that she is tempting fate and interfering with the lives of others by needlessly causing fear and hate and it will only end in her downfall. She is not gonna give any positive rep to the remaining werewolves by running around scaring people. Being born as a werewolf or getting bitten by one is not automatically evil. It is the actions they take under lycanthropy that makes werewolves a threat. My cheatsheet for my Lawful Good Half-Orc Paladin I'm waiting to play with is as follows: 1. Is taking/not taking this action harmful to innocents? 2. Is taking/not taking this action against local laws? (3. How much experience are we talking about here?) Good is prioritised over Law in his book but it depends entirely on the character.
It feels like Pathfinder games are impossible to find. If there is anyone out there with a group with a player slot empty, please contact me. Been itching to play PF for quite a long time.
So after watching the Hobbit my bros and I decided we wanted to dwarf, except for one who wanted to hobbit. So for a reason I can't recall we rolled up a dwarven fighter and priest and a hobbit thief in OSRIC, which is apparently a slightly revamped AD&D. Started out in the westfarthing, gonna fill in some gaps of the scouring of the shire
So i've been working a little on and off on a tabletop RPG for a while now, progress is slow but it's beginning to get somewhere, but now i've hit a bit of a snag, I simply can't decide whether to use a simple class system, or go all the way with some form of point buy system. It would be much easier for me to make a class system, and it would probably end up a whole lot more balanced, and much easier for players to learn. A point buy system would allow a lot more freedom and customization of your character, but as a side effect would also be much harder to balance, it would probably end up being more complicated to create a character, and it would be a lot more work for me. I don't know what to do. :v:
I started playing a pathfinder game with my friends recently as well. We've got me as a druid, one as a fighter/rouge (i'll just refer to him as fighter), an inquisitor, and another rouge. Our first dungeon-esque area was some sort of mansion filled to the BRIM with traps. We were there looking for the source of the construct 2 of our party members saw, and after passing a magically electrified fence, a magically electrified panel which deactivated said fence, a door with your average dart trap, a dresser with 2 trapped drawers, and a clockwork maid that shot hot steam when deactivated- We finally came across our first real encounter, 2 constructs with god knows how much hp. Our rouge managed to hit the closest one for 5 with a bow, but right after that it just slams him for 9 hp and comes within 1 hp of knocking him out, so we just book it. Not exactly an ideal first encounter.
We're still going with this and a lot more has gone on, but none of it was really eventful (2 more people have joined since). I'm just trying to figure out what more I can do with my summon-heavy level 4 druid other than throw a shitload of stirges at people/animals/dragons until they die of con damage. I honestly can't see anything I can summon with 2nd level spells that would be better than my current 1d3+1 stirges who proceed to drain anything within 3-4 rounds (at least in situations where stirges can properly attach and drain the target). Also, for a good example of why I'd only ever use stirges- we were fighting a very young black dragon and I still had a few stirges on the battlefield from a previous fight (we were in a coliseum) so I summon EVEN MORE STIRGES the next round after the remaining 2 attached and drained it, giving me a total of 5 stirges attached to it. Needless to say it died the next round because at that point I had drained ~80% of its health in 2 rounds of combat. Now lets see 1d3+1 dire rats pull that off.

Oh my god, someone actually made another Dungeons and Dragons movie and I didn't even know about it until just now, it was apparently released just last month. Well, now I have to see it, I hope it's as hilariously bad as the rest.

The CYOA one was enjoyable, the first movie proper was horrid, wrath of the dragon god wasn't completely horrible, but oh man.
A Pathfinder group is looking for more players (We already have a GM), contact me and leave a message in this thread if you do. A preferred timezone would be around GMT. [editline]23rd December 2012[/editline] Around 3 more players are needed.

I'd love to get involved with an online session at some point, unfortunately I can't guarantee how regular my schedule will be in the forseeable future so I'm reluctant to commit to anything. Also, the idea of playing a Charisma-based rogue or bard or rogue/bard with maxed bluff and disguise appeals to me. if only so I can be practically useless in combat but can play the NPCs like my Bardic instrument. I play music to inspire competence in my bluff check
