Sounds like you and the DM might have a different idea of what kind of game you're playing than the other players. That or they realize it's a deadly game and just suck at optimizing?
Or maybe just play what they think would be fun instead of what deals the most damage?
Our entire party almost died today, we had to take down 3 challenging fights in a row, first some giant tentacle monster, then a bat thing that made illusions, then a necromancer and her minions. The first two were no problem, I killed them in pretty much 1 hit, however the necro did 50+ damage to me in two rounds, and I only have 15 hp. I'm only alive because I demanded the DM didn't kill me yet, considering how bullshit it was.
wtf, being a rogue and having 15 hp i'm assuming you're about level 3, how the fuck can it be there's already enemies doing 50 fucking damage? that's madness, even if it was an exceptionally lucky roll that guy must've been like level 8+
I consider this madness and i'm the guy who made a 4 man party of level 5's half of which were completely naked fight a fucking beholder, what was this guy smoking?
I bet the GM ramped the difficulty up because there's a rogue doing 30+ damage in a round.
Try making an "unoptimized" character along the lines of the rest of the group, see if GM still throws deadly as fuck stuff at you.

Thing is, there is a super easy way to deal with rogue rogues, just make multiple opponents all focus on him, basically make him the flankee instead of the flanker.
Simple as that, rogue is suddenly shit in combat.
So the local group that I have is winding down to their final boss fight or the final event, if they can stop it. So far there are 3 of them that play at the session and I started with 6 so I lost a few but I want the final fight/event to be really really difficult.
The players are a) Paladin lvl 34/Cleric lvl 26, B) Paladin lvl 46/ Cleric lvl 10/ Magic-user lvl 12, C) Magic-user lvl 78/ Illusionist lvl 23.
Player characters that are left include (and are still on the team), a) Fighter lvl 52/ Ranger lvl 43.
So how should I construct this challenge that they face? They are versing a Greater Deity here.
P.S. using 2nd edition.

Well that's about the highest level campaign I have ever fucking seen.
On another note, make them fight a planet.
Yeah i'm not even joking, make them fight the fucking planet, or alternatively a plane of existance, they should be about strong enough for that.

Neutronium golems.

It was a lightning bolt used each round, i missed the reflex dodge with a 1 each time. The mage was lvl 6 and the dm rolled above 3 with each dice, so it dealt over 24 damage each time. And yes I'm lvl 3
Also, I've made a barbarian now, although it's just straight damage so it's only interesting in combat.

Have them fight a Neverborn. Then the parent of the Neverborn. If you do it right it should be very Giygas-ish.

Maybe, but this is my first game so my character is hardly the most optimized. I'm planning on multiclassing as Sorcerer at about lvl 6, as Rouge seems fairly linear, just extra damage as they level up.
Also the entire session was made up on the spot; it was our first session with our old dm, who left a couple of months ago due to being busy. So he made a session based on our last session with him as gm, however one of our players suggested we ran the session based around his character's return, as his character had been abducted a few sessions ago. So it ended up with the dm improvising. He probably should have been a little more fair, after the first encounter everything focused me.
So I've decided to look for other systems to run that aren't D&D or one of its incarnations, since I've been playing this stuff since 2005. I'd heard about Savage Worlds but I never gave it much notice until recently. And goddamn now that I read into it does it look interesting. That and FATE. I'm gonna try to give both a try at the college, to break the D&D/Shadowrun/40k RPG monopoly the school has. Savage Worlds, and FATE for those interested (yeah, there's two links apiece, both provide different pieces of information).
On top of that, Iron Kingdoms looks cool too. It's steampunk, but has much more of a "fantasy world in the middle of an industrial revolution" feel than a "Victorian steampunk Earth where goggles on your airships and everyone has a shitty British accent". If you guys have heard of or played Warmachine/Hordes, it's set in the exact same universe. Character creation is simple and fast, but has a huge wealth of options in the two "careers" that you select, like Aristocrat, Soldier, Arcanist, Priest, Stormblade, Knight, etc. It strikes just the perfect blend of fast but not oversimplified. There's a shitload of fanatical steampunk fans at the college, so maybe this'll get some interest, or maybe they'll be disinterested since it's more "full metal fantasy" than their shitty Victorian steampunk.
What this means for this thread I guess is that I'm not gonna be running any Pathfinder or 4e, sorry :( I'd really like to try something new, and I'm already scratching that itch with the current game I'm running but I want to try something else too. So anyone interested in Savage Worlds/Iron Kingdoms? (I'd like to do FATE, but only when the 3rd ed rules come out).
Oh and last, and least, I looked up FATAL.
No.

Dude, you calling victorian steampunk shitty?
Well fuck you too then.
Mind you, not saying medieval steampunk is bad, I love the shit out of that too, but victorian steampunk is awesome as well.
Also, I would totally play FATAL.

I think he's talking about the more realistic Victorian Industrialization era rather than the extremely overstyled Victorian steampunk.

Don't.

I'm having them verse a Deity that eats worlds/realms. I just need some ideas on her abilities. Like she regens 20 hp every round or like you have to roll a 16 or higher to hit her. She does have 5000hp and 25 in all stats.
I decided that the undead in D&D aren't scary enough for my group to face; not enough of a threat. I have thus given them all an HP regen minimum of 1 per turn. With my current low level group a couple of undead skeletons/zombies can become problematic if the players miss too many times. So far I've had at least 4 times where the undead manged to heal most of the damage a player did at the start of a round by the time the round ended.
Certainly had the intended effect, now they don't treat the undead as throw away fodder. Can't wait for them to reach the bigger undead baddies.
Would anyone like to read the DnD campaign I've DM'd so far? It's my first time DMing and I wanted to make it story oriented. I've made a LOT of mistakes, but my friends enjoy it, so it's all good.
Thinking of quitting my local group. All the other members are boring cunts, they have no life in them at all. I'm messing about with my Orc kicking down doors and everyone else is being emo as fuck.
Don't know whether to carry on
Don't.
Why not? The abyssal bloodline looks like it would tie in with a melee character.
I don't get the point of playing 100% depressed woe is me characters. Even my characters who are annoyed by and hate the rest of the party, their situation and life in general do things like made snide comments and inappropriate jokes so it's entertaining for the other players.

There's a reason half my characters are just about insane, usually all or most of the other characters are really dull.
You're one of the exceptions the few times i've played with you. also that Fallout game had some awesome players.
Conflict is the soul of drama, whether internal or external.
Conflict is the soul of drama, whether internal or external.
Insane people generally get into a whole lot more conflict than pretty much anyone else, especially really boring characters that just mope all the time.
Having troubled characters gets things going in a bit more "higher" way than zany characters, especially when personal conflict rises. Of course, that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be lighthearted sometimes. Even Hamlet loved to be a snarky magnificent bastard every once in a while.

It's called striking a balance.
I've left the group. Bunch of special need cunts.
Glad I did since I would have probably hung myself.

Good on ya, and good luck finding a new, hopefully better one.
Yeah gonna be difficult though considering most of the players are weirdos and have issues.
I hope I do though, would like to carry on my character.

Maybe they should find a game of Mutants & Masterminds.
Maybe they should find a game of Mutants & Masterminds.
you and antary should go play it yourselves, you're the only ones insane enough.
