Hey guys, it's me again.
Yeah I'm looking for a group again.
Pathfinder, anyone?
but how else am I supposed to play chaotic neutral
alignment is really dumb and needs to die but chaotic neutral is the worst of the bunch
GUYS I'M CHAOTIC NEUTRAL THAT MEANS I DO WHATEVER I WANT FOR NO REASON *throws orphan off bridge* LOL SO RANDOM

I dislike how Chaotic Neutral has gotten that negative stigma. I only ever take Chaotic Neutral when I play elves, and even then, it's because it represents the momentary whims that they might have.
I just ban Chaotic Neutral, not worth the trouble.
I just tell people to stop being stupid if and when the need arises
ugh ugh ugh you're "that guy" who just plays wacky monkeycheese characters and justifies every action with I'M INSANE LOL
Hell naw, that's only when i'm playing a Psyker in Dark Heresy which is very rare.
Which is what i personally hate the most out of any other play-style. Just because you are chaotic doesn't mean you have to be ridiculously random all the time and just because you are lawful doesn't mean you have to have a stick up your ass the whole game either, Evil doesn't have to be total douche out to murder innocents for no reason 24-7 and good doesn't ALWAYS have to do the right thing. Mixing it up is what makes it fun and develops character, what would the character do, not what would their alignment do
This is why I just play True Neutral characters most of the time.
GUYS I'M CHAOTIC NEUTRAL THAT MEANS I DO WHATEVER I WANT FOR NO REASON *throws orphan off bridge* LOL SO RANDOM
Wow, no.
The only time i've ever seen a lolsorandom character in D&D, he wasn't even Chaotic Neutral.
I don't really think you could be all that much more wrong
Wait, weren't you also the guy that recommended Mutants and Masterminds?
As a CN rogue I just did what I wanted. Of course I had a reason behind it, it wasn't just random stuff. Usually what I wanted was to steal stuff, because I like gold. I'd also be picky about when I engage combat, because my character is also a bit of a coward (8 con, yo).
whenever i create a character, i think of a concept first and only after that decide the race, class, etc.
i find it that characters are made better this way. instead of making someone that you have no idea what you want their goals to be, make a good concept with clear goals and a specific mindset.
for example, these are my most recent characters:
a overly zealous barbarian who set out to spread the word of his god across the world
a stuck-up, lazy wizard that came from a prestigious line of great wizards, but wanted to be an actor instead. he ended up being a street magician and selling fake magical items.
a gnome rogue who has his own adventuring shop, but plays dirty to eliminate competition. he also aspires to be a politician (albeit a corrupt one).
those are just a few of my most fun characters i've played yet. they all have a goal in mind and a set attitude before the game even starts. also, i agree that 'insane' characters are just lazy cop-outs for making good characters.
Speaking of insanity, how many people here would like to play Call of Cthulhu?
I could GM that shizzle.
Is nobody really interested in going mad while discovering unsettling mysteries?
The talk about insanity made me wonder of a FC3 roleplaying game for god knows what reason.
Roleplaying Vaas...

Call of Cthulu sucks!
I already signed up for CoC. Come on, people! Madness awaits
Call of Cthulu sucks!
no
I'd love to try CoC but I can't stand playing PnP games over the internet anymore, it's so much better in real life.
So, here's the story of my campaign. First, a little context.
The 'world' is a pretty big continent that's divided in half by a huge mountain chain known as the Mountains of Misery. The east is where the story takes place. Because of sea monsters and such, not many civilizations wanted to make a city on the ocean. The first who did it got RICH because of all the trade with fish and the like. A red dragon has been tormenting the continent for a looong time.
The Factotums are kinda like the CIA, they're everywhere, settng up guilds in a bunch of towns and cities.
The PC's begin in a small town (surprise surprise) called Riverfell, because of the river going through the whole village. The PC's are: A Half-orc barbarian (Thudd), a elven ranger (Hawk), a dwarf fighter (Dex), a gnome sorcerer (Geppeddo), and a human fighter/cleric (Jord). The character who helps guide them is a factotum by the name of Viento, who's a bit crazy.
A big fighter makes a bit of a ruckus in the tavern, challenging someone for a good brawl. Surprisingly, Jord beats him down, almost knocking him out. The fighter admits defeat, praising them on their fighting skills. He had a proposition for them, a long trek from the town is the entrance to a cave leading to a dragon's hoard, which is oddly unguarded, save for some kobolds. The PC's eagerly accept and head off.
After slicing down some kobold fodder, they got separated from the fighter and enter the treasure room filled with a bunch of gold. Thudd tries to grab some and shovel it into his bag, which then promptly burns his hands and burns his bag. They see the fighter nearby, who attacks them. After trying to spare him for a few rounds, they finally notice he's being controlled and begging for release. After killing the poor bastard, they see a hooded figure who laughs at them for trying to take the gold.
They fight, doing no damage to the thing whatsoever, he pulled back his hood, revealing he's a half dragon. He promptly teleports out of the place with the gold and forces the PC's to run to the nearest exit, since the roof is caving in. They pass through an illusory wall and find themselves in a jungle, somehow teleported miles among miles away. From there begins a grand journey of adventure.
So a friend of mine asked me to join his D&D group, I told him I know shit all about it and that he'd have to teach me from the very beginning, should I? I Always wanted to play it, how hard is it? Do I need anything ready before going to his house?

The mechanics themselves are confusing at first, but then you'll know them after a game or two. You'll need a character sheet, some polyhedral dice, and some paper. Odds are, if it's your first time, he'll bring everything you need. If you get into it, you should buy some dice for yourself though.

Depends on the edition. 3.5 can be daunting for newbies, and while Pathfinder is great for those who love extremely personalized characters, it's a bit complex as well. 4e, on the other hand, is great for those new to D&D and RPGs in general.

I disagree, and this is coming from someone who was glad they streamlined alignment in 4e. Alignment is a good gauge of character, and I've played and seen Chaotic Neutral characters that in no way did stupid things and justified it by their alignment.
I play chaotic evil and beat the shit out of everyone and beat my group up
My dm wants to kick me out of the group because I contested my character dying. What do.
probably gonna need more context.
Basically the dm threw the party into 3 consecutive challenging fights. On the last one, a mage strolled in and outright killed me in one hit. I used a hero point, which allows you to change the roll of a dice to save my character. The next round the mage does the same thing. We're in a building so I couldn't run away. I use my final hero point to change that, but I still go under 0 hp and I'm almost dead. The next round the mage kills me. Naturally I was pissed off, but I didn't really contest it that much.
I voiced my complaint on our FB group, saying how the dm should have at least given us a choice for the encounter and how bullshit the whole thing was. Now he said I shouldn't turn up next week or ever again.

Sounds like the DM wanted to kill you regardless. It's largely irrelevant what you throw at him if he's determined to get rid of you.
sounds like a shitty DM to me
if any of the other players realize how bullshit that is maybe they can talk some sense into the DM, otherwise you probably wanna find another DM
Edit:
I'm assuming the DM had some personal reason to get you out of the group though, so yeah you're probably stuck with finding another one
Sounds like he had some beef with your character (or you, Iunno lol), and in good grognard fashion, decided to resolve it in the most passive-aggressive way
So three weeks ago I was playing 4th edition with the group I'm in. It wasn't a very plot driven session, we were just walking along a road when we were ambushed by a few simple bandits. Nothing too hard, we eventually beat them up and looted all their throwing daggers, since that was the only thing they had that was hitting us and we thought they might come in handy later. As the party was regrouping at the end my character slinked back to the pile of dead bodies and began looting them.
Of course, I only got about 10 gold total. They obviously weren't good, or even decent bandits. Because I didn't do it "sneakily" one of my party members walked over and told me I should share it with the group. When I told him no, he stepped closer and told me it again. When I said no again, he stepped closer, put his hand on my shoulder, and said "You're going to share that gold, or we're going to have problems." My character looked at the hand on their shoulder and then back at him, and said no again. He let go, turned to the rest of the party, and said, "She's a traitor. Kill her."
Of course, I readied my bow and told them to stand down. When they didn't I took aim at the party member who said I was a traitor. I used my daily, and not only did it hit, it was a critical hit and his head came clean off. I lived another round or two in the ensuing fight with my party, when another team member managed to knock me out with an eldritch blast from 30 feet away. I fell, and they walked over, ripped out my heart, and stomped on my skull. And that's the story of my rogue. I'm a goliath now, and am actually trying to solve a conflict between goblins and society that hasn't been resolved in 20+ years diplomatically, with the help of a goblin prisoner that I spared the life of. Wish me luck.

Is the party aligned evil? Because that sounds like evil to me.
Murdering a party member over 10 gold? My god people are dumfucks

That's got to a record of how quickly a party descended into team killing.
