The character is pretty sexual, which isn't generally a bad thing, but I found it hard to focus on the game with a girl in a skin-tight jumpsuit waves her ass at me every two seconds.
The problem is that you're playing the first regular level on the normal difficulty. Every enemy has a limited attack repertoire, a huge delay before they telegraph attacks and then perform them, and everyone is still vulnerable to bullet time. In the demo, your strategy never has to evolve beyond "hit bad guy until he tries to hit you, dodge, resume hitting." There's no need for you to focus on anything (except butts, apparently, because you're a dirty minded individual) because they're trying to ease you into the game. Later you're given more chaotic enemy routines, enemies that can't actually be hit unless in bullet time, enemies that can't be used to dodge into bullet time, enemies that can parry your strikes, and enemies with the ability to combo into you, and less or no attack telegraphing. So playing the real game you wouldn't really be spending too much time "distracted", because you'd be busy getting your ass handed to you on a platter.

Being distracted by an obviously sexualized character doesn't make me dirty, it makes the game developers dirty.
I don't see how it doesn't make you dirty as well. That's the same thing as that rape where the rapist got off Scot-free because it was the way she dressed, not cause the rapist, y'know - raped her.
Soviet Beef aka shit poster.
One good thing about Facepunch is how it brings people together.

The designers made her sexy intentionally in order to attract more male players. A woman did not dress slutty with the intention of being raped.
Played the demo, is ok.
Played the demo a good 6 times, and I really want this game. I really wish someone would hire me, but it seems no-one wants a 16-year old with no work experience. Until I can come up with about 70 bucks, I'm pretty boned.
... What? The designers made her sexy intentionally in order to attract more male players. And yes, the ruling for that case was that the woman dressed sluty and thus it was not the rapists fault, complete bullshit like his statement. [editline]09:01AM[/editline]
I'm right there with you. I'm not dirty for taking notice and being distracted by their dirty idea. Also, that case was bullshit. I am rather resentful that I can't seem to get a job because I'm not yet out of high school and don't have any prior work experience, but I'm not losing any sleep over it. Such is life.
You're saying you're not dirty for staring at an ass, what? Just cause the developer wants you to doesn't mean you really have to pay attention to it. [editline]09:07AM[/editline] Platinum isn't holding a gun to you and yelling "Stare at it! Stare at it!!"

If someone is waving an ass in your face and taking their clothes off when you use a special move, I would be stunned if you were not distracted from the task at hand.
That still makes you "dirty". Sometimes I think the game is too fast to get distracted. But it's quite easy while out of combat.
the bit with the spread legs thing that touches itself and moans. :wtc:
I'm right there with you. Seems like you need a fancy piece of paper to get hired anywhere these days.
I have had two jobs and a years worth of experience working at target and a lot of volunteer/college experience (still in college, not grad) and no one wants to hire me either, even at a place like pizza hut. Places get so many applications a day these days that it's literally impossible to get hired unless you know someone who works at a place, have tons of experience working at that same exact job, or both. I want to get out of department store retail so bad (they give shit hours when it's not xmas), but I can't because the only places that would even consider me are other department stores unless I happened to become friends with a manager of some other place.
Can anyone who has the PS3 version say if it really is crippled or are people just exaggerating?
Can anyone who has the PS3 version say if it really is crippled or are people just exaggerating?
I've played both versions and if you're stuck with the PS3 version you should still get it. Not knowing what to expect I played the PS3 version first and loved it, it's one of my favorite games of all time now. The 360 version however, is obviously superior. The PS3 version is stuck at 20-25 FPS at all times (dips down to 10-ish in certain areas) where as the 360 version stays at 60 FPS through out the whole game. The loading times are also an issue, so much so to the point that the pause menu has a loading screen. In short, if you haven't played the 360 version the PS3 version is still absolutely amazing.
Well I'll hold off for a bit and hope for a patch then.
Well I'll hold off for a bit and hope for a patch then.
It's been out since October in Japan, if we were getting a patch we would have got one already.
I generally have to concentrate on a game I've never played before in order to, y'know, play it.
Except no game requires your immediate attention on the first level. Regardless of genre, every platformer, RTS, FPS, beat 'em up, racer, whatever, opens with something braindead to ease you into the game, and gradually ramps up the difficulty. I thought this was common knowledge. They're giving you time to look around and ooh and ah. And yeah, part of that is going "lol, bum." I have a hard time imagining you wouldn't get over it sooner or later.
It's been out since October in Japan, if we were getting a patch we would have got one already.
SEGA was talking about a patch for load time reduction on the PS3, but that was in November and they had no time-frame for getting it out beyond seeing how the game performs in each release. Which makes no sense when you think about it, and sounds suspiciously like they're waiting to see how many PS3 units move in all three releases before they put any effort into a patch. The PS3 copy only outselling the 360 version by 50% is weird, since the 360 is so monstrously unpopular in Japan- I'm sure they want to see if the PS3 copy ends up underselling in the US and Europe before they decide to try patching it.
This game is really hard. I'm on normal and I'm getting my ass kicked, especially by Grace & Glory and their higher level version. I can't imagine this game on Hard or higher.
Agreed, normal is fucking intense. I was doing okay at the start but now I can't seem to get any award above Stone :v:
I just got this game today, I'm not usualy into the devil may cry fighting style but I love this game
As far as the issues with the PS3 version go, it seems to move a bit more sluggishly during some cutscenes, not as smooth or fluid as some of the scenes I've seen on the 360 version, but it really doesn't detract from the game itself too much. Gameplay itself hasn't really dropped in framerate badly much either. Those are my only complaints, but it's not a game breaking buying decision. Sega is working on a patch though from when I last checked. Anyway, great game. Never been a fan of DMC, and I love this game. It's probably the most intense, frenetic and difficult action games I've played in a long time. Almost on the level of Zone of the Enders The 2nd Runner, but on speed and crack.
So the issues aren't AS bad as people say?
Well I'll give you an example. I watched the comparison vid on Gametrailers and it's a gross exaggeration when it comes to the tonal differences in colors and contrast. It truly depends on A. The type/brand/model # of TV you have and B. The device outputting such footage to an external device for streaming Now, I don't know what they were using to capture the footage but something was certainly lost in transition. That or the settings on the television flat out sucks. I even played the game on my 42 Bravia next to the footage to see how it compared and it was much more vibrant and colorful than what they were portraying. Which leads me to ask the question why critics are making a big deal out of it in the first place. Call it what you will (I'd say another smear tactic as usual), but in that respect, it is an exaggeration. The only major gripe I have is the drops in framerate occasionally. Otherwise there is nothing that is game-breaking or that should hold you back from buying it if you so choose.
That's good, I was afraid that the framerate issues were game-breaking.
got both ps3 and 360 but went with ps3 version knowing its the weakest and still great game, plus i can't be arsed setting up the 360 as its in the cupboard. I seem really bad at the game too. I die all the time on normal and get bronze/stone statues although I had one silver near the beginning :v:. Looks like this is going to get some playtime to platinum the levels (pure platinum a statue? not looked). Anyone like? :iia:

Trophies a umbra witch (I assume it's Bayonetta) in old witch gear with a giant moon above her, I can't remember how to spell the little girls name but "Mummy you're the greatest!" "I know!" or something like that as it's caption :T
