Bloodseeker who silences me (Tiny), then bitches I wasn't using my combo.
Rager and Blamers are the main reason my team loses all the time.....
In my experience, doom isn't that terrible at laning
It's not that he's a bad laner, it's that he's just an extremely efficient jungler. I can't think of a single other hero in the game that can start on a hard camp at level one, can you?
I've been thinking about playing doom for a while now, what's a good item build for laning or jungling? like just the basic core, I can work out the situational stuff myself, played long enough for that :v:
There are many builds you can go, but the most reliable I've found is what I call the 'Raidboss' build (named after WoW raidbosses).
Starting items: Stout Shield, Quelling Blade, Tangoes.
Build Order: Hand of Midas, Boots of Travel, Vangaurd, Radiance (if you've farmed fast enough-still good if you get it by 23mins, shouldn't be a problem), Assault Cuirass*, and then two Hearts.
*Assault Cuirass is the single most important item in the game for Doom. He lacks a lot of armor and agility for attack speed, and this item fixes both of those problems. It's what allows doom to become the tank and an absolute monster carry.
You deal a shitload of damage, both with spells and physical attacks, and you become one of the tankiest things in the game. This forces your opponents to choose between attacking you, leaving the rest of your team virtually unharmed during the entire fight since it's unlikely that they can bring down a 2-heart Doom Bringer, or attacking your team, in which case they just left one of the biggest damage dealers in the game to wail on them.
Thats why i think Doom is a walking ult the first 30-40 mins of the game, then when he gets items he is really helpfull, hopefully this next patch will make him a bit more entertaining to play with.
A Doom that doesn't activate before 26 minutes... You're joking with me? He can active anywhere between the 20-30 minute marks. If it's anytime after that, I'd consider him shut down.
[editline]18th December 2012[/editline]
Well, basic core items are Phase Boots; gives you a powerful melee attack PLUS the ability to travel between the ether.
(Boots of Travel are the only other good boots for him later if ever.)
This is correct, but I would not consider Phase Boots an option unless you are laning. You can easily get them before the 12 minute mark if it's right after Hand of Midas, which is great since they help you with farming.
(Also, save LVL?? DEATH ability for later. You are probably going to need the hp regen/speed buff during your laning phase.)
This one I'm iffy about. If you're laning, it's not a bad idea at all to max this skill before Scorched Earth if you're laning. LVL? Death is an amazing nuke, and you can easily gank your own lane with ease if you can predict your enemies levels correctly.
Note: Get at least one level in Scorched Earth for escapability early on for the movement speed buff.
Also Vanguard is listed as core, but it won't stop a someone like Clinkz from burning through your non-existent armor like butter, but a simple Stout Shield will work for the very early game at least.
Vanguard is not core, by any means. You can skip it if you want, but it's a nice item to have, especially if you're building tanky.
Then Basilius or Magic Wand are kind of like core. Basilius can be built into Vlad's later which is good, and Magic Wand becomes near-useless later on.
Magic Wand is a waste of money a lot of the time unless your enemy is spamming spells in lane, and Basilius is far from core. You usually only get it if you're jungling and you're unlucky with the creep camps.
The most important part here is that you mentioned Vlad's. You never build Vlad's on Doom Bringer. It is a waste of money which could be spent going on to something like a Vanguard or Heart. It delays everything, and it's an even worse pickup if you're jungling.
Then you have to weigh the options between getting a early-enough Radiance, or just Assault Cuirass and Vlad's for pushing. Also not sure how good BKB is on him. Probably good.
As I said earlier, Assault Cuirass is not an option. It is core on Doom Bringer, and if you don't get one then you're going to be really squishy and have poor attack speed. I usually don't get Black King Bar, since I usually can just get close to a Heart with that money. Never really found a use for it, unless of course you are solo'ing the whole game without teamwork (which is a retarded idea).
But Shiva's and Assault Cuirass notably, they boost Lucifer's armor which is MUCH needed, without them you are quite fucking squishy.
Shiva's especially is funny on Doom Bringer. It makes him look absolutely hilarious as you're emitting both fire and ice at the same time, dealing massive amounts of magical damage to them. I would only suggest getting Shiva's if you need more teamfight and the enemy team lacks BKB's. If that's fulfilled, then it's an amazing item to get.
So it's very risky to just rush Midas into Radiance and not caring about Armor. I once got incredibly early game farm but.. then I just died, and I lost.
Rushing Midas is not really that risky, and from my many Doom Bringer games the item almost seems core on him now.
[editline]18th December 2012[/editline]
Woah, holy shit, that's a LOT of words.
Should I just write a Doom Bringer guide or something instead of putting this here?
write a guide
i beg you please write a guide
make a video guide
How to play 90% of heroes for the first time: Hug the tower until there's space for experimentation. Never fails.
write a guide

make a video guide
I guess I could, but it'd take a bit. I have a mic and Sony Vegas. Been a real long time since I made a video though.
[editline]18th December 2012[/editline]
I'll write the guide first, and work on the video. They will accompany eachother. That actually sounds interesting...
Also, for reference of my 'Raidboss' build, watch this match I just had:
https://dotabuff.com/matches/81062366
The Boots of Travel are pretty late, but I was having some bad camps.
[editline]18th December 2012[/editline]
Also, credit to the Lion and Windrunner who were random pubbies, they were great supports.
how is vlad's bad? it's damn cheap, gives early-game armor and manaregen in the form of basilius, and gives a powerful aura when turned into Vlad's. Along with AC, that's some nice pushing power.
and how is maxing out lvl death smart? it deals good damage even at rank1 if the enemy level is right.
but yeah, AC is definitely a core item, and should be acquired soon after the basics like Midas, Phases, Radiance, etc.
speaking about doom, this is what I do
get regen and ring of protection, make basilus, if lane is going well midas before 8 mins, then I make treads (i know I should get phase to chase, but treads it's of my style)
If I'm really balling, radiance, if not, AC, then tarrasque
If the game is still going on I pick a basher or heavenly halberd

No shivas :(?
just had one of my worst games

-Sven who was alone all the time
-Spirit breaker who kept charging at 1 vs 5, expecting us to follow him across the map at 700 speed

Maybe he was roleplaying?

Omniknight on my team went 1/6/0 and refused to buy flying courier while being a general bell-end while Sven and Axe fed like there was no tomorrow.
I silently weeped.
First two numbers seemed ok. I was like "What the hell are you on abo- oh... Zero assists."
I feel sorry for you. My first game as Omni was a major success. Even the Other team loved the saves i managed to pull off.

Seriously underused hero on pubs, imo. Lot of health, heals, gives a BKB, ults to give physical immunity (rapetrain incoming motherfuckers) and has a slowing aura. Every time I play Omni/with an Omni my team wins almost every teamfight solely because of Omni.
Hello guys, i created this profile here just to post this.
A Pudge with a MoM.
When i asked him about it he answered this:
"i need the attack speed to farm"
God, why?
Needless to say, we lost.

It also increases the damage the rot does to him. Jesus Christ people like that make me depressed just knowing they exist.
Instead of just saying GG after a very close 1+ hour long game, enemy team decides to shit talk constantly at the end when they barely win
It also increases the damage the rot does to him. Jesus Christ people like that make me depressed just knowing they exist.
That somehow gave me an idea; buy a fucking Veil as Pudge in conjunction with the Rot.
Gives some pretty okay stats for Pudge, a bit pricey but +25% damage for Rot, if you can get it "early" enough and utilize it in just a few crucial hook-ganks where you Veil and Ult the target, and Rot will just melt the target enemy in mere seconds!
I remember being on a team with a tinker who went arcane boots.
We still won.
-story about idiot team members-
Yep, sounds like the guys I get aswell...
Go qop, miss ulti twice because everyone spreads around and I actually did misclick on another time, spectre calls me shit and clockwerk keeps saying I suck for never being in the action (despite being the only one to actually push the damn towers), missing 2 ultis and get a skadi against a team of 5 where 3 are quite literally +1 to the killcount while rubick was already getting a sheepstick.
In the end? Spectre and clockwerk had the most deaths out of everyone on our team, I commented on spectre's death streak and said he died helping, and I saved clockwerk from death against pudge and razor. He didn't say anything else anymore after that.
Another cool fact?
They did a triple lane against razor, and SOMEHOW, razor got fed as fuck, fucking up everyone teamwiping everyone on his own.
Venomancer was the only cool guy, and he was also dominating. Even rubick was a cunt, trying to make me die to tower fire at low hp with a push from force staff.
To add to those 3 asshats...
I get the players with the "best" item choices in mind.
Skeleton king goes jungle, farms a midas, cool... Then gets a MoM... Then finishes a daedalus after 40 minutes of us saying "what the bloody fuck skeleton king"...
He died in less than 3 seconds each time he went into a fight. That match was awful. Even clinkz said it was a huge farm fest.
Match after that...
I get a ursa on my team who was doing ok, until I looked at his items...
By minute 20, he STILL didn't have vlads...
We lost hard because of death prophet that literally ate our faces. We couldn't fucking take any of their towers even with a much better team combo, and they spawned faster than we could destroy anything.
And last but not least...
I get mirana in SD (if I recall it right), someone gets drow, and I think "hm nice, I'll get a sweet damage increase, go mid, get to 6, gank the shit out of their faces"
Nope... Drow starts raging at me saying she's going mid, so it ends being a dual lane mid vs huskar.
Drow insists of harassing him, and gets herself killed.
I just say "fuck it" and leave as soon as its safe to leave from an enemy DCing.
Just had an Ursa who first got mad at me for not using Bloodseeker's Q on Centaur (because using it on him when he's a fart's distance away from you and you're at 30-something HP is truly the way to roll), then developed a complete phobia of teamfights, kept changing his mind on what to build but here comes the kicker.
Teamfight on mid, we lose it, enemy team's stomping their way through our base.
And he's fighting Roshan.
All of my rage.

When i feel like playing ursa/lycan i change my name to "I ONLY GANK ROSHAN"
'nother stupid pub player but on the other team.
Here we are, roaming around, going after Roshan. Sven takes it, whacks away at it.....only to suddenly score a kill on Broodmother who apparently thought it was a good idea to stay put.
Got another one! How about an Undying who maxed Decay and Soul Rip before even putting a single point into Tombstone?
Oh boy, low prio really is the place for these guys...
Random jakiro, drow and sniper go hard lane bottom against meepo and leshrac.
After 1 or 2 minutes, first blood to meepo. How the fuck can someone be that bad? I took a look at them, they were dying because of leshrac doing the walk of death near them. Good god...
They feed about 5 kills or so. I see leshrac, thinking "oh shit, if those 2 couldn't handle him, then I'm fucked".
Carpeted him, his health disappeared in less than 5 seconds.
How hard is it to kill him again?...
At least we won, and I had the highest gpm... Those carpet strikes are really awesome.
The only stupid person in pub I've seen is myself
I do the dumbest things as Pudge, I once missed my hook and accidently hooked an ally Drow. She was hit by Mirana's arrow because of me and as she was getting killed by the whole enemy team I comitted suicide using Rot.
10/10 would hook again

why not orchid it's a larger % of damage addition + a silence so they can't really fight back

sure but their cost difference is quite huge
[editline]24th December 2012[/editline]
and the idea was to Veil a target before Ulting and Rotting it to death
So a Templar assassin goes mid, maxes meld and psi blades. Then once she hits 6 she doesn't lvl her ult and once she gets it after she maxes all her other abilities she doesn't even trap the runes. Also she tried to gank before she got ult. She was quoted as saying" I'm going for more of a farming build."

not cost effective, not practical. neither really are.
This Invoker wanted HP Regen and Attack Speed, so you might be saying "Oh he went QW build then?" NOPE! Wex-Exort, and built a MoM and a Crystalis after that, after we critizied him, he said "but this is a carry build, im not doing a support job"
After that match i felt like playing mid Nyx, and by my surprise i find a dual mid lane...of a Drow/Broodmother, needless to say, Drow´s final score was 0/13 and her inventory only had Power Treads and a Tango
