If they've all done them wrong, according to you, then who has done them right. what is there to define what the bolter should be?
The fluff. You know, WH40K didn't come from DoW.
The first version of 40K was released in 1987, and there are at least several hundred books released about it.
Not to mention the dozens of codices.
35 seconds in, he's firing from the back of a valkyrie. 37 seconds he's firing from the side (though that might be the ship mounted HB)
For some reason that seems too big to be a Valkyrie to me.
[editline]03:44PM[/editline]
Watch from 25 seconds to 27 seconds.
That seems spot on to me.
[editline]03:45PM[/editline]
It could just be trails.
No trails in 25-27 seconds, generic machine gun then.

Those aren't smoke contrails, watch it again, they're rays of light caught on the smoke within the building.
Synth, They're in the air, flying quite fast, and its shown in the same sequence where you clearly are in a valkyrie. It's safe to assume that it isn't a Thunderhawk because the T-Hawk has the ramp in the front, not the back.
Not to mention they're almost two years from releasing the bloody game. I mean jesus man, there are more important things to worry about.
For example, how is real time gun combat going to work on an MMO without instancing? Or how will balancing work if you can bop around in a goddamn warhound titan?

Space marine isn't the MMO dark millennium is.
Maybe RayvenQ should check out the MMO trailer. Lots of smoke c'mon off those bolters in that
Maybe we shouldn't give a damn about some fucking smoke contrails I mean Jesus, it's just a little effect that won't affect the gameplay. Could we all just relax with this whole "URGH MACHINEGUN NO CONTRAIL"?

oh look more rays of light caught on smoke
what a coincidence that the origin of both rays of light originate at the muzzles of the bolters, right?
Boltguns in FW were the most accurate to be honest, even though the game itself was utter shit.
And yeah like earlier posted, something like Republic Commando with the squad controls, along with added 40k themes like brutal melee combat and stuff. A few parts seemed a bit off-fluff but it's a video game and I'm willing to ignore some fluff if it means a funner game. :v:

Fuck, I'm getting confused.
Too many over the shoulder shooters were you play as space marines!

There's 2
Oh noes
It'll probably get a PC port some time after release. The Reason Relic is making it console only to begin with is that they've never really done that before. They also wanted to avoid optimizing the engine and go straight out and make the engine to the Specs of the X-box 360 the minimum.
I've heard combat controls for shooting are much like gears of war, third person over the shoulder with optional cover system. Melee has a slightly more free moving camera to give you a better view of what you're killing.
And yes the bolters DO have smoke trails and the rounds DO explode. Keep in mind the game is still in Alpha. It's a trailer with a few clips of gameplay to show they've been working. We still know next to nothing for the story.
Are the Ultramarines still a placeholder chapter or are they sticking with the boys in blue?
Are the Ultramarines still a placeholder chapter or are they sticking with the boys in blue?
I believe they've settled on it.

There are 2 upcoming Warhammer games, one is an MMO and one is a TPS.

Cool. This means my relatively shit computer may be able to run it.
One thing that bothers me...Space Marines...in Valkyries...Enough said
Also the "early" (aka alpha leak) videos wer eof an entirely different game.
Also yet again portraying bolters wrong, where's my damn smoke contrails!
I think I saw a Marauder - I came.
But yes, hopefully they'll replace the pilots with Imperial Guard/Navy crewmen.
I want some Guard, dammit
So far in videogames, I don't know of any video games that have done it right, then again I haven't played every single one.
The 20 or so years of background fluff.
A Bolter launches a bolt round with a very small charge, just enough to make the bolt round clear the barrel (not enough to make a huge ass muzzle flare), at which point, the rocket motor on the bolt round itself fires, propelling the actual round and after an amount of time, the delayed reaction detonator arms, detonating the round within the target.
They aren't bullets, as such, they are Rocket propelled, armour piercing, mass reactive (the delayed detonator) explosive rounds. Well the Standard ones are, then there's 9 others that differ on the end result (armour piercing and exploding) but they all function the same in the firing sequence.
I always thought fire warrior did Bolter's the best, in dawn of war they seem to much like machine guns.

I never really gave 40k a proper look really, and I am currently facing the consequences of not knowing what the fuck is all this lore.

You don't need to know all the fluff and lore to have fun playing the games.
But reading the novels/delving through wikipedia/lexicanum articles aren't boring. If you're ever really bored I'd suggest reading it if you're curious about it.

Who else would they have flying the Valks? more Space Marines? :downs:

Well there's too many stories and stuff to know them all (all the novels and fluff in codexes) but you should know the basic story
Just google 40k timeline or something
Spehss mahreens

A lot of reading up will help you understand, little over 2 years ago I knew nearly nothing, then i ended up buying a ton of books and that further compelled me to look things up.
Some good books to start with are Eisenhorn and the first Space Wolf Omnibus, the former pretty much explains a lot of the stuff that it mentions, with no real indepth knowledge needed and the latter starts off with the main character being recruited into the Space Wolves.
I've actually never read any of the books because I could never get my hands on a beginning book in any of the series. Only like a random book from the middle of Horus Heresy.

The first one in HH is Horus Rising (I think)
Any Omnibus is a whole series of books combined, get those
EDIT:
It is, but I stopped reading after the Fulgrim and the series really drifted away from the main Heresy.
Also "A Thousand Suns" is the only black library book to get on the New York Time's best seller's list

Oh please, it's being made by Relic and THQ, i think they've earned enough respect from Dawn of War I & II. Not to mention the homeworld series.

Dawn of War II sucked imo
CoH tactics work for CoH, but when it comes to 40k I want a RTS that's large scale. Hell my table top army isn't that big, but it's still bigger than any army you'll have in that game. Also the time bonus for missions was ridiculous, and the expansion was too unfluffy
Not to mention the homeworld series.
Actually, never mind. Fuck this shit. I want a Battlefleet Gothic game.
Do you think the Marines in this will actually have an animation for looking down the weapon (I know the weapon wouldn't be in the shoulder due to the lack of stock and giant shoulder pads)?
There's something I find irritating about the WH40K universe is that, for the majority of the time, everyone seems to stand out of cover and fire wildly from the hip.
SMs can fire from the hip because their targeting systems enable them to line up the fire using a display on the inside of their helmets. They don't need to aim down the sight, they can see where the gun is pointing (or something like that)
