Dawn of War II sucked imo
CoH tactics work for CoH, but when it comes to 40k I want a RTS that's large scale. Hell my table top army isn't that big, but it's still bigger than any army you'll have in that game. Also the time bonus for missions was ridiculous, and the expansion was too unfluffy
Had it been CoH with WH40k it would have been awesome (well, with some adjustments of course), but it wasn't. It had a very dumbed down CoH engine (especially physics), few and shitty maps, oversimplified (for the "pr0" crowd) and Windows Live. It could have been awesome, but it was ruined by horrible decisions.
Last Stand was a good idea though (not so good execution sadly).
The first one in HH is Horus Rising (I think)
Any Omnibus is a whole series of books combined, get those
I know Horus Rising is the first one, like I said I've never gotten my hands on it so I didn't want to start a series in the middle.
Oh please, it's being made by Relic and THQ, i think they've earned enough respect from Dawn of War I & II. Not to mention the homeworld series.
No, they really haven't. Earned enough respect from whom? WH40k players?
Nope. Hardcore 40k players don't like DoW because of the conflicts with fluff and mechanics and such.
Do you think the Marines in this will actually have an animation for looking down the weapon (I know the weapon wouldn't be in the shoulder due to the lack of stock and giant shoulder pads)?
There's something I find irritating about the WH40K universe is that, for the majority of the time, everyone seems to stand out of cover and fire wildly from the hip.
What do you mean the WH40k universe? Do you mean Dawn of War? Because there are a lot of things that that game does wrong.
I'm sure if you read Gaunt's Ghosts the book won't say "And then Gaunt ran out of cover and fired wildly from the hip." The WH40k universe is not just Dawn of War, that is just one speck of the giant mass of 40k lore, games, books, etc.
oversimplified (for the "pr0" crowd)
what does this mean
[editline]11:32AM[/editline]
what does this mean
That they simplified a lot of stuff (for easier balance), and for example made the maps mirrored (more balanced, but way less fun and more monotonous).

Why did you add the "for pr0 crowd" thing?
I play games competitively, and I agree with you. Not all competitive players are whiny babies.

I know, by "for pr0 crowd" I meant the kind of people that instead of getting good at the game start crying and stamping their feet until what they don't like (which most of the time translates to "What they are not good at/what defeats them") is either toned down or removed. I know there are loads of competitive players that are perfectly fine (DoW 1 had loads of competitive players, and was still awesome and varied), but those are rarely the loud, whiny crybabies on the forums (not that all complaints about balance were wrong though).

I guess my comment was somewhat swayed by Dawn of War yes, but also by the fact that the very vast majority of the plastic multi-part models don't construct into anything vaguely recognisable as a proper shooting stance.
Gaunt's Ghost are badass, I started reading the books years ago. Though I kind of lost the point.
I hardly remember anything, although the Sniper Mkoll was badass.

Mkoll and Caffran. I can't remember any other names, but Mkoll rambo'd a Chaos Dreadnought.

This is true, but then again the tabletop models have a static pose, so it's just going to be the person standing looking badass. You cannot use that argument effectively, because they also do not have a running pose, yet you wouldn't say "It seems to me that everyone in the 40k universe enjoys floating around maps."

While I disagree, this is the only valid argument I've heard against DOW2. Other than Chaos rising being unfluffy, I'd ask how so?
I, in my honest opinion, am really looking forward to this.
I only have a bare minimum knowledge of 40k, but I still think I'm going to enjoy this, especially since it's gonna' be on the 360.
Also, one of my favorite parts of the trailer is about 0:49, where one of the Rocket Boyz gets sucked in to an engine. :v:

Mkoll was the master scout, the sniper was Larkin.

I've heard a LOT of valid points about DOW2. I find it plays too much like other generic strategy games, once you start to look past the "OMG 40K" factor.
It's strange, I loved Company of Heroes, I loved Dawn of War, but Dawn of War 2 is a perfect example of how NOT to do it. I can't stand playing online against other players, it's so unbalanced and there are so few units on the field... Last Stand isn't bad though, and I do load that up from time to time. Seriously though, playing Dawn of War 2 reminds me of regular Starcraft matches, and for me, that's a bad thing: Starcraft was so incredibly broken it was unreal.
As for something that just really bothers me personally, the scale of battle in DoW2 is just too small. I love large battles and maps, especially in Dawn of War (and dare I say, Supreme Commander) but the recent trend is DUMB IT DOWN: smaller maps, less armies, and you don't even get more detail or micro out of it. You just get smaller maps and less guys on field.
Do you think the Marines in this will actually have an animation for looking down the weapon (I know the weapon wouldn't be in the shoulder due to the lack of stock and giant shoulder pads)?

In the books Space Marines do aim, however considering Space Marines make war a art I would not be surprised if t hey were good enough with a bolter to fire accurately from the hip. They have centuries of practice remember.
Also in the books even Space Marines take cover. Only time I've read where they stood out in the open and took the enemy fire was in Innocence Proves Nothing where Deathwatch marines stood out in the open and took the price for it. But to be honest I hate the book, doesn't accurately portray Space Marines according to the rest of the lore. But to the point, Space Marines do take cover, even a Space Marine can't stand up to 100 guardsmen firing at the same spot.

Well there, now you can read it twice :P
And for the people talking about accurate models, there's a crouching Tau Firewarrior (the sniper drone guy) that's as tall as all the standing ones. The models can be pretty bad sometimes
Looks really good! It looks like the bolter isn't some sort of stun weapon, like they showed in the early videos.
That game was being developed by another company entirely. This game is in no way the same game as the previous 'Space Marine' game we saw the leaked footage for a couple years back.
Also, this looks like it's going to be pretty freaking sweet, the trailer gave me a distinct '300' vibe if you get what I mean.

Relic stated in an earlier interview that they couldn't really think of a way to make a game like this work on a PC, apparently, "every button deals death" on the game pad.
So far in videogames, I don't know of any video games that have done it right, then again I haven't played every single one.
Fire Warrior had explosive rounds for the bolter and bolt pistol.
Though FW was pretty shit.

Ugh, just looked through the entire thread, each and every one of the answers I gave have already been given, rate me clocks.

Holy shit yes, now I remember. They were awesome, but one of those guys was betrayed by some idiot on a planet where they had to defend a city. He was betrayed or killed by one of Gaunts Ghosts.
I am definitely getting this game. But I want to see one of the other races being fought, all I see are Orks, and I want to see some Chaos Marines and maybe Eldar in this game.
Imperial Guard is better imo.
Yeah, I don't like the Orks to much as an enemy. I prefer fighting some sick chaos soldiers. Well in the beta there was chaos but now I don't know.
Imperial Guard is better imo.
Is better at what?
Dying?
Yeah, I don't like the Orks to much as an enemy. I prefer fighting some sick chaos soldiers. Well in the beta there was chaos but now I don't know.
That was a different game of the same name that got canceled.

Well for relic orks are normally cover for a bigger more significant enemy normally eldar or chaos so here's to hoping.
Is better at what?

Being Unsung Heroes. Most of them may be bad fighters but considering they're poor, poorly trained and poorly led with less equipment I can understand. Considering the civvies don't give a fuck about them and only the Space-Marines.
That's the basic gist I got from the RTS games though. That the Space Marines are super humans and the Imperial Guard are average joes. Fighting Orks takes balls, fighting them as an average person takes twice as many.
Fighting Orks takes balls
They didn't sign up fyi, they got drafted. And if they don't fight the orks, the (awesome) Commissars will kill them
Imperial Guard logic: NOT ONE STEP BACK, COMRADES!
Anyway, what I want to see is an epic-scale strategy game. Like a WH40K: Total War or something, hundreds of thousands of units fighting on a planet.

Well if you look at the lore, the IG are really more badass. Yes, commissars will execute those who retreat, but it still takes an enormous pair of brass ones to take on the shit the IG face on a daily basis. Not to mention the Veterans not being cannon-fodder, and you know, actually badass as single infantrymen.
Oh yeah, and the Patron saint of the Imperial Guard is Ollanius Pius, who stood up to Horus himself, who at the time was a Demon shitting blood drinking titanic Chaos beast, and this normal dude in a flack jacket says: "You'll have to get past me to get to the Emperor, fuckface."
While he got his shit annihilated, he showed the Emperor that Horus had fallen completely.

Also, I think it was Sanguinius who got his shit annihilated, and I don't think Horus every really ascended to daemonhood in the Heresy. Chaos gave him a fuckton of power, but he was in no way, shape or form, a daemon.
