Parry's your only line of defense as far as I know, having played through the first two chapters of the game so far, it's pretty vital you learn how to do it, otherwise you're gonna get your ass kicked.
So i was watching the english version of the cinematic trailer, and something caught my eye.
Theres, at one point in the trailer, a scientist holding a kid hostage with a gun.
He speaks with a russian accent.
He looks exactly like Dr. Madnar.

MGR.
So, I've tried to play the MGR:R demo on two separate occasions, and I have a major gripe with it. How the fuck are you supposed to parry?
It keeps telling me to, I even google it to work out what you are exactly supposed to do, almost every time I end up standing there like a idiot and get twatted in the face.
I feel this game might have a lot going for it but it sort of feels like it's going to be let down by a dodgy parry system.
Press X + A (square + X) to dodge. Move forward + X (square) at the same time to parry when an enemy is about to attack you. The parry system isn't dodgy, you just don't know how it works.

X + A to dodge
I don't understand how people don't know how to parry. It's the simplest thing.
Maybe it's because I play a lot of hack n' slash and fighting games?

Uh no, he doesn't, he speaks with a Spanish one. He's not Madnar. He's some crazy scientist from the second (third technically) chapter of the game.
Don't read this next part unless you want spoilers: [sp]The scientist is just someone working with Desperado to harvest the organs of children in the area (namely the brains), to which Raiden was dispatched to shut down. The kid (whose name is George) escaped into the sewers near the facility, and Raiden saves him from some UGs, at which point Raiden has him wait in a safe spot for Maverick agents to secure him. Raiden progresses further into the facility where the children who have not yet been disposed of are being kept, and before he can free them, the scientist shows up with George as a hostage, telling Raiden that if he attempts to free the other children, he'll kill George. George pulls a Seras Victoria and Raiden cuts through George's torso in order to kill the scientist. George is later partially fitted with a cybernetic body.[/sp]
so is rising good or not? and why is the release date all screwy on gamefly? it said it was coming out the 19th now it's the 16th.
Doesn't come out til tuesday here in NA.
then i guess i get it monday...

Just had another go at it, and that X+A definitely works better than the parry for me, but I am still having trouble with the game.
I think the problem mainly lies in me not really playing, or liking any other hack and slash games before. It seems to be a pretty cool game, but I think I'm just gonna give it a miss.
Fuckssake. Was looking forward to getting MGR, but only found out now that it comes out on the 26th here in Australia. Why the fuck do we get it a week after everybody else...
because Australia.
Also I'll be well into Uni by then and I want to buckle down this year.
No wacky Jack the Ripper adventures for me.

Comes out the same day I go to uni orientation so I'll be picking it up afterwards, but until then I'll have to keep up with not clicking any spoiler tags in this thread.
does anyone know if that grey fox outfit will be available to everyone?
tbh i'd rather play the game with that model than raiden's.

It's a gamestop preorder, they might release it later but for now it's a preorder exclusive.

do i get rising for ps3 or 360
are they both in 1080p and with 60fps?

Console games are never in 1080p, they both run 720. Both run at 60fps as far as I can tell, and Platinum does a good job with their PS3 ports after what happened with Bayonetta. I say go for PS3.

PS3 version looks better, and its still 60FPS.
Atleast on the Demo.
konami has been allied with sony in some capacity or another for a long time... i mean MGS4 probably was one of the few reasons the ps3 got through with its rocky launch.
i wouldn't be surprised if development was more PS3 oriented. needless to say go with the PS3 version.

some console games do run in 1080p though
usually hd collections
some console games do run in 1080p though

Those games are usually PS2 games though.
How do you find out? I ran the demo on a screen that supports 1080p and it looked high res, but it could have just as easily been 720.
How do you find out? I ran the demo on a screen that supports 1080p and it looked high res, but it could have just as easily been 720.
because console games rarely ever fully use 1080p, console hardware isn't strong enough
that's why most console games usually run in 720p or sub 720p. Usually only downloadable arcade games run 1080.
dead rising 1 for example, still looks amazing compared to current release console games, runs in 1080i.

I did and it says 720p
Pretty much all non arcade console games that are 3d graphics heavy run in sub 720p. MGS4 for instance ran at 1024x768 upscaled to 1280x720. Here is a nice list
Oh Gods. The final boss is using [sp] NANOMACHINES, SON [/sp]
