That's the thing about Sundowner, if you cut his shields off, it just makes the fight a little harder. Leaving them up makes it a straight-forward parry>attack fight all the way to 0%.
Harder? Without his shields I'm free to just parry and wail on him like I do with normal combat. When he has those fucking shields up I'm just constantly blowing up from attacking him and lose health too fast.
He'd be a much trickier boss if he actually tracked the player when his shield is up
Dear developers,
stop including your fucking stupid stick-waggling micro-game when I get stunned, it never fucking works
Apart from that gripe which I've had with every game ever, Rising is great fun so far.
This, if it wasn't for for the stick waggling I wouldn't be fucked in so many situations, and sometimes even if I do it my absolute fastest it fails where other times i break out of stun/hold instantly with 2 waggles

With his shields up he stands still and only does one attack, versus his fast movement and multiple attacks when his shields are cut off. When he puts his shields up he doesn't move. You can move to his left, right, or back and continue attacking without fear of blowing up. When you do this he will open his shields up, they will glow, and he will try to attack you with them, which you can parry. That's the only attack he will do. He's incredibly easy to get a consistent S rank against using this method.

I could never parry his shield attacks. It'd always make them blow up on me.

If you are talking about the one where he charges you with the shields, that can not be blocked or parried. He will only do that if you are too far away from him though. Any time that he swings the shields at you from a standing position they can be blocked or parried without taking any damage.

Actually you can block that, it'll start a QTE
Almost beat sundowner without getting hit. Had to hit him just a few more times then that fucking chopper nicked me.
[editline]26th February 2013[/editline]
Fucking hate choppers.
so you cut off hands as an optional bonus
this only REALLY clicked for me when i was doing this with the Gray Fox skin. and the point that these guards underwent some sort of operation back during the patriots' reign, and the patriots are all about echoing history and repeating data infinitely, echoing the cyber ninja vs ocelot moment way into the future even after theyve been wiped out.
kojima. platinum. unf.

Left hand.
Is down on the d-pad even used for anything?
they should've put equipping/unequipping uniques on that button
I think the down dpad uses any sub item you have equipped, like repair paste or electrolytes.
i finally beat sundowner without getting hit on hard
definitely the easiest of the five
i dont even want to think how many times i had to restart
Wait, what if you want to restart the game on a higher difficulty level, rather than a lower one you've already beaten it on? Do you have to finish the game to begin again? Or just skip to the last level and just finish that?
Finally got the time to play it.
First of all I finished it in about 10 hours, but with a lot of codec and playing around. I thought it was a really good game.
When hearing a lot about how it is 'not a real MGS' it took for what it was, an action spin off. But not at all negativly, in my opinion it is a great extension of the series.
The subtle humor, the offensive humor and all the nods to the main series made it very entertaining. Hell I nearly lost it when fighting the last boss [sp]and you codec call the Doktor. He says that Armstrong uses a technology he is not familiar with. Instantly though NANOMACHINES!? and almost bust a nut when he actually said that[/sp].
Or right at the beginning [sp]when Raiden lost his arm and just was like "Not again..."[/sp]
The gameplay was just the right amount of difficult for a first playthrough on normal, to actually enjoy the game.
Combos connected in an enjoyable flow, the additional weapons were useful in different situations and the variety of enemies forced me to constantly change my style of fighting.
The story itself was good if you spiced them out with enough codec calls.
My complaints though are not being able to quickchange between the subweapons. I guess it would have made the combat faster and gave it even more variety.
Also way too less [sp]PLOT TWEEESTS[/sp] although [sp]that Sams sword bit caught me off guard, because then I thought for a brief moment that he might was the good guy all along[/sp].
tl;dr: Neat metal gear action game.
Could write a few pages more, but I want to start a cyborg ninja run on the harder difficulties.
[sp]Sam bossfight, was best bossfight, da![/sp]

Playing on a new difficulty means you have to start from the very beginning. So you can't beat chapter 7 on normal then play chapter 7 on revengeance.
Well, what else would I run it on? It's not like the PS3 is backwards compatible or anything.
Well, all PS3s can at least play PS1 games (can't confirm, but I have a slim model). You could at least play MGS1 with it.
The only other options I know of are picking up the HD collection for PS3/Xbox for around $30, or you can try and legally emulate them on your PC (although if I remember correctly this requires a decent setup).

Slims can play PS1 games just fine but don't support PS2 games, only the fat PS3's do. And the last I heard the PC PS2 emulators are still a little iffy when it comes to emulating the MGS series, but it's been awhile since I checked up on that.

SERIOUSLY?! :D
I still have my PS2 essentials collection and that obviously has MGS1 so this is awesome. I've been thinking about getting the PS Store version, but I've also been looking for a PS2 so I can play my PS2 games again.
Never actually finished MGS1...got up to Vulcan Raven and had a lot of trouble trying to beat him. I played along with a walkthrough though, so I know how the whole game is and I skipped over all the fun of finding out all the tricks and whatnot on my own. Didn't ruin it for me though. But yeah I really should play it again and actually get to the end. If I recall right, [sp]Raven is right before the final Liquid battle with Rex, yes[/sp]?

Not exactly, you still have a ways to go, although the most part is over.

You had me hyped until I read that my fat PS3 40gb model can't do any ps2 games
rip

No, that's not what I'm asking. I'm saying, what if I'm in the middle of a Hard mode playthrough, but I feel like it's too easy and want to turn the difficulty up. Do I have to finish the whole playthrough first? I already have the other difficulties unlocked.
im pissed off. i rented metal gear rising revengeance. 20 minutes in i come across that impossible asshole dog who kills me no matter how fucking hard i try, and there's NO checkpoints in the game. waste of money.
