my least favorite thing about mgs4 is how Select doesn't open up the codec
I almost never used the codec because of this.
Just couldn't be arsed.
my least favorite thing about mgs4 is how Select doesn't open up the codec
I thought you could change that in options or am I just thinking of Peace Walker?
Seeing as they cut codec from the game altogether... Why even bother? Only two contacts. It was fucking fail IMO. Solid Snake delivered a shitton of backstory on Dead Cell in MGS2 if you bothered calling. Now, Drebin sure did elaborate on the BB's but i'd love to be able to instigate a conversation. The parallels to DA2 are astonishing.
Hated the BB back stories too. Completely pointless and I've heard the victims of war talk a million times.

I fucking love bubble wrap
I fucking love bubble wrap
dude. there are 4 sheets of bubble wrap. each sheet consists of approximately 405 bubbles. that is a total of 1620 bubbles ready and waiting to be popped.
Wait, they called you but you couldn't call them or???
Yes. In MGS4 you can only call two, but a few more call you.
In MGS1,2 and 3 you get 8 contacts in each games that could be called at different times. Usually two constants and a game-saver, One to deliver lore, one for tech info and a final plot-device that dies mid-way. The formula varies, but there we go.
The MGS1 and 3 formula swaps the tech guy for a weapons specialist and The Boss in the first MGS3 mission.
MGS4 broke all of the MGS rules thanks to Ryan Payton. Sure, he spruced it up a bit, but his streamlining also raped depth. The reason it was so cutscene heavy (even for MGS) was because he insisted everything be delivered outside codec convo's.
Is it bad that I will always remember 140.85 and 140.96?
You fiend! MGS4 is like the only reason I'd get a PS3. And maybe the Killzones aswell...
But its like the primary reason. And with the HD collection released and MGS1 on PSN and ZOE HD collection coming...
HHHHNNNNNNGGGG!

Funny thing, Meryl kicks his ass and steals his gear in MGS1. And I think it was him again when you were closed in the torture room.
In MGS2, you can also find him with the Directional Mic behind the 2nd strut Emma goes around.
And in MGS3, it was his father or granfather. Probably granfather.
to be honest you're not missing out on anything, MGS4 is a giant fan-service that has like 2 missions where you actually play the core mgs gameplay, the rest is cutscenes, boss battles and turret sections
the game is just constant winks at MGS1 & 2 and it's boring as hell, the story had a good concept but it ended as incredibly cheesy and really silly by trying to tie up all the plot holes that were in the previous games

I do remember seeing the cutscenes on youtube. So fucking many for just about anything.

The stories of the BB's were all pretty much the same though. You can make your own at the bottom of this page.
Older Tweet but:
Translates to:
"The previous version of Rising aimed to have feel good action with Raiden as main character as a spin-off, not MGS. The same concept is shared for the new RISING by [PlatinumGames]. For those who are hoping for a stealth style MGS, this will definitely appear at some point, so please wait for a true sequel."
Hideo Kojima definitely confirmed a stealth MGS at some point, combined with Big Boss it's safe to say we'll be getting Metal Gear Solid 5, or at least something similar. Peace Walker was originally going to be 5, but that changed.
I hope the MSF are still in whatever the Diamond Dogs thing is in. I like the MSF and their logo.

LIES! Rising was gonna be stealth swordies! Cloudish Grey Fox! D:
Btw, when ZOE HD collection comes out, can I make the OP? (IF you guys want a thread about it...)
MGS4 is a strange game.
It's a gigantic fan-service, like crazy_farmer mentioned. but at the same time a lot of what makes mgs mgs is thrown away or altered dramatically.
the codec, as said, is now only available through the pause menu. and has only a few contacts (at least you can make rosemary's tits jiggle around by shaking the controller though)
and the drebin shop kinda ruins the whole concept about finding guns and equipment hidden throughout wherever like in the previous installments.
and, for me as I had only played the regular MGS3, the improved camera combined with the ability to crouch and move (holy shit), alienated me even further.
still a good game regardless but I find it odd that so much was changed. you would think that they would stick to the gameplay the fans love considering the whole game is in many ways a love-letter to them.
Product placement also made a full-scale invation in MGS4 after the lighter load in MGS3. I didn't mind food and computers, but it got seriously excessive.
Sweet, finished my MSF brassards. Now I just need an AR-15 shaped like an M16A1 (which will never happen since AR-15's are expensive in my dad's eyes) and some ALICE gear to finish the uniform. I wish there was an airsoft arena around here that I could dress like this in.
Randomly joining Peace Walker coop lobbies for bosses is possibly one of the funnest things you can do in the entire MGS series that isn't a 90 minute long cutscene
nuking Japan Bald Eagle was from the war-torn country of America. Her town was invaded by soldiers when she was a small child. The thing was, though... there was no Bald Eagle. She was consumed by her nuking Japan. Fighting you cleansed her soul and penis, Snake.
Right I've never played any metal gear at all whatsoever, I have no interest in reading pages and pages of story, I'm probably going to buy this product
so this is missing a couple of the games I assume, how confused am I going to be
I can do that too.

MGS3 doesn't really require any previous story since it's the very beginning of the MGS storyline. You'll be confused as hell in MGS2 if you haven't played the first one.
fuck
I'll probably just download it and play it on an emulator before I play MGS2

Or you could get the PC version
Yeah, MGS1 and MGS2 are both on PC, I always forget that.
Beware of mucked up graphics, fucked up controls and possible compatibility issues.
I hope the MSF are still in whatever the Diamond Dogs thing is in. I like the MSF and their logo.
I got quite attached to MSF, I hope they make a return though I don't think they will.
Beware of mucked up graphics, fucked up controls and possible compatibility issues.
I didn't play MGS2 on pc, but the pc version of MGS1 has no compatibility issues and, compared to the ps1 version, nice graphics.
Don't know about the controls though, I used a Ps2 controller.
That fucking moment that I realize that I've just played MGS1 on a emulator up til the gray fox battle and realize that there's a superior PC version available.
