I got quite attached to MSF, I hope they make a return though I don't think they will.
I wish they made a support beacon that called in a couple MSF dudes with random weapons. That would be pretty cool.
I didn't play MGS2 on pc, but the pc version of MGS1 has no compatibility issues and, compared to the ps1 version, nice graphics. Don't know about the controls though, I used a Ps2 controller.
MGS2 doesn't installs on my laptop if I remember it right. And it is original just btw. Much better to play on a console tbh. Steadier frame rates and such.
MGS3 doesn't really require any previous story since it's the very beginning of the MGS storyline. You'll be confused as hell in MGS2 if you haven't played the first one.
People say MGS3 is a good entry point but it's got a lot of references to the previous games in it, I think if anyone's interested in such a story centric series they should start with MGS1.

And if you're an S&M enthusiast like Gray Fox circa 2005, I guess Metal Gear 1 would be an ideal starting point

I mean the gunplay is pretty terrible, especially compared to MGS2. This is the first time I've gotten to play the VR and alternative missions and I'm having a lot more fun than the actual campaign. Love the godzilla sized soldier mission. The weapons feel more powerful and you get a lot more variety of use out of them in the first game. A lot of the weapons in the second game are somewhat useless throughout most of the game and are usually used once or twice.

MGS1 had some damn good graphics for a PS1 game. EDIT: i see it now, up until i got into PC gaming, i could care less if a game had shit graphics, gameplay is what really mattered to me, still does, but, in the back of my mind, there's the graphics thoughts.

Even though the game is old I still really like how the graphics look. Especially like the manga styled codec cutscenes.
Even though the game is old I still really like how the graphics look. Especially like the manga styled codec cutscenes.
I miss those.
Even though the game is old I still really like how the graphics look. Especially like the manga styled codec cutscenes.
Well I do like those compared to the modeled cutscenes in later games. Don't get me wrong, I haven't said the game is bad, I would just prefer to play MGS2 or MGS3.
I'm well aware that for the time it had good graphics (although that is a PC screenshot, mind you), but seeing now while having played modern games with better graphics makes the contrast very apparent.
A lot of people (including myself) don't mind old graphics, it's like a trip into the past. I only played Thief Gold a year or two ago and I loved it.
MGS 3 is a fucking masterpiece but sadly peace walker doesn't look or feel as amazing. Though I'd say peace walker has the potential to be more fun with the co-op and the more arcade mechanics.
I might be the only one who thinks this way, but I really disliked the bosses in MGS3. None of them were very challenging or fun. Ocelot is pretty basic. It was one of the better ones. The Pain could've been fun, since he has all kinds of fun attacks, but the boss battle was basically just diving, surfacing, shooting and repeating. The Fear... Well, I just finished it by standing still and shooting at him before he could shoot at me. The End was pretty intense and a fun change of pacing, that one I liked. The Fury was pretty basic, like Ocelot. It was enjoyable, but nothing too special. I don't even count The Sorrow as a boss battle. I absolutely love the atmosphere on that though. Volgin was piss easy and boring. Shagohod was boring and piss easy. The Boss had great atmosphere, but (atleast how I played it) was pretty dull and unchallenging.
You're just too young to understand or appreciate the depth.
I completed peace walker yesterday. It still feels like I've got a million things that I still need to unlock, but I just can't be bothered with trying to collect all those blueprints. Fighting the chrysalis type 2 in 2-player coop, was a shitload of fun though. Should I go back and to those extra ops, just to get better weapons to use on the bosses?

Just picked up the HD Collection for the 360, so add my name to the list. My gamertag's "NCR Sergeant", without the quotes of course.
I just got my copy on 360 well looks like it's finally time to play mgs
I don't have a mic for 360. Does PW actually use a mic or is it all just in-game codec messages?
you can get mice for 360? Why would anyone buy one [editline]11th April 2012[/editline] also I've never played a metal gear game at all, I don't really feel like downloading MGS1 and playing through it before I get to try MGS2, MGS3 or Peace walker How fucked am I? I know I asked this before, but I just read through the manual and it gave me a pretty good overview (eg snake goes fights big boss, wins, goes and fights other bad guys, stops metal gears, stops the apocalypse etc)

And you won't be too confused with MGS3 or PW. MGS2 will fuck with you quite a bit if you haven't played MGS1.
damn oh well I guess it can't be helped
I must be really terrible at this, because I can't aim for shit. Even as bad as aiming with an analog stick normally is, it feels like no matter how gently I move the stick it just flies all over the place. And why for the love of god does your weapon disappear after firing only once?

The sniping sections can get infuriating because of it.
L1 for lock-on. Helps a lot in many cases.
Is that in first-person or third-person mode?
I'm guessing you're talking about MGS2. Ya they did a pretty horrible job with it. The sniping sections can get infuriating because of it.
Well mainly MGS2 yes, but many of the same problems exist in MGS3, even though it is greatly improved. Your weapon still disappears, for whatever reason your weapons are removed between Virtuous Mission and Snake Eater, and if you're playing on a difficulty other than Very Easy (as most do), the only actual gun you get up until Snake Eater is the M16, which you can use for a grand total of about 5 minutes. Why they included a silencer for it, I'll never know. [editline]11th April 2012[/editline]
By the way, I played MGS2 when I was 8 never having played MGS1 and I understood most of the story, even most of the ending. I think people exaggerate how much of a mindfuck the MGS2 ending is. Sure, there's a lot of "WHATATWIST!!!" moments right next to each other, but it's not that confusing.
It's not so much that it's confusing, just that it makes no sense.
The AI at the end of mgs2? [sp]That's just one of the patriot AI's, namely GW. The reason they started going all bonkers is because Emma installed that worm/virus/whatever that was, which started destroying it from the inside. It turned out the colonel Raiden knew, wasn't the real one and Rosemary was a fake too, obviously. [/sp]
