This. As much as I dislike things about MGS2 that whole section was a stroke of crazy genius.
Speaking of MGS2, me and my friend were talking about how it would be a billion times better if they just made Raiden a woman instead of a girly guy.
A lot of things would make more sense.

Glad I'm not the only one who has come to this conclusion. If they wanted the anti-snake why not have made Raiden a woman? That would've pushed it all the way.
As much as they make jokes about him in-game they suddenly dropped that in MGS4 and tried acting like he was a true badass which made me cringe so very much. To say this is my most loved franchise I truly do hate Raiden. His reasons for existing are fucking minimal in MGS4.

I don't like him especially much, but he doesn't bother me.
Then again, MGS4 was the first one I've played, so for me he has always been a badass.

Except he really, really wasn't. When I say his reasons for existing in MGS4 are minimal I mean it.
If he wasn't in the game, events would have played out slightly different but all to the same effect/end.
I mean they try to convey him becoming a hard ass saying he got into bar fights etc which, regardless of how you look at it, is cheap as fuck and really really cheesy. MGS2 he had a reason to exist, he was walking symbolism and actually stood to represent something whereas in MGS4 it was just a "lets tie up this character's story for the sake of the fangirls."
