I think I'm going to pick up a PSP, How well is peace walker and portable ops on the PSP? I would get a Vita but no MGS for it :(
Portable Ops is tough to get into I think, but it's a neat experience. PW plays great though the controls might feel wonky at first, they become easy to use with practice.
I think I'm going to pick up a PSP, How well is peace walker and portable ops on the PSP? I would get a Vita but no MGS for it :(
Honestly, if I could pick a "worst" MGS game, Portable ops. Story is short, nothing really happens at all in the big picture. And Python is never mentioned ever again, despite being the fucking best character and also being Big Boss's "Vietnam Buddy". Gene's plan is retarded and would never work, Cunningham doesn't seem like the magnificent bastard that the plot requires, he just comes off as a belligerent asshole who doesn't want to cooperate with anyone. And young Frank Jaeger is overwhelmingly underwhelming. Full of content and shit that will keep you busy though, I still played for about 10 more hours after I finished the mediocre story. And I really like the content,it's fun to beat the shit out of guards and bring them to the rape tr- I mean the recovery vehicle. And, playing as the Bosses of the game after you complete certain objectives is admittedly, a shit ton of fun.
Portable Ops was really neat when it came out, but the soldier capturing mechanic was so slow. Who came up with the idea of dragging a body through the ENTIRE LEVEL back to the start?!
You could take them to a box as well.
You could take them to a box as well.
Yeah but it was just generally a clunky mechanic.
Also speaking of PSP's, how durable are the UMD's?
So I'm really on the fence about Peace Walker. On one hand, I enjoy the RPG type elements where you level up weapons and stuff through R&D and all that stuff, but I really dislike how the story is delivered and how the cutscenes are animated comic book style. I honestly feel a bit uninterested in it. It just feels so much like a filler game or something...like since everything is so broken down throughout the main MGSs', it doesn't feel super necessary to play it, at least for story info. Yeah it's a PSP ported game, so my expectations weren't too high, but it's just got such a different feel. Also, how the hell do you get rank S on the missions?

Also peace walker has a really good ending.
Also speaking of PSP's, how durable are the UMD's?
I think UMD and durable might be mutually exclusive. I broke one by holding it at an angle.
I broke a UMD just by playing the game a lot.
I don't mean the outer casing, just the actual CD part.
I think UMD and durable might be mutually exclusive. I broke one by holding it at an angle.
How is that even possible? I've dropped mine on the floor countless times, and they still work like a charm after years.
How is that even possible? I've dropped mine on the floor countless times, and they still work like a charm after years.
Some UMDs are just ridiculously fragile. My cousin broke my GTA:LCS UMD while putting it in his brothers PSP.
Peace Walker feels really odd to me. It's true Metal Gear but damn. It might have something to do with the story being cut up in mission form and the regular trips to manage Mother Base. It just messes with the flow for me. I've talked about this before. Cutscene: "GASP. CHRYSALIS, IT CAN'T BE....NOW FIGHT". -Sure just let me check my mail first, maybe conduct some interviews with the prisoners, I'll be right back.
Just started playing Peace Walker. I like the control system compared to MGS 2/3 - is it similiar to MGS4? (I've got a 360, so I've never played it) I did manage to be completely retarded though, and some how mix up the silencer count for the Mk.22 with the actual ammo count, and assumed I only had 5 darts per mission. I got a load of alerts because my method was to resort to throwing empty magazines to distract guards, then running up behind them and stunning them :v:
if it didn't have those breaks before boss fights i'd be fucked though, seeing as my default loadout is mosin-nagant and mk22 also fuck helmets. I would have been fucked without the breaks, I usually did missions with only the Mk 22 and the stun rod.
I would have been fucked without the breaks, I usually did missions with only the Mk 22 and the stun rod.
I always try and do a non-lethal run through any MGS game if I can on the basis that hitting someone anywhere but the head is so much less of a hassle with tranqs as opposed to a pistol. I haven't found the breaks in PW so bad as of yet. It lets you get more Fulsons, and you can swap in out of weapons for boss fights.

Being able to actually move and shoot at the same time (at least accurately compared to the shoot and guess of the PS2 titles) was great too. Only problems are that now you can't crawl, the gun attachment management and level-up system is convoluted as all hell (my experience with an M16 w/grenade launcher and experience with a M16 w/smoke gren. launcher can't just be the same?), and you can't detach silencers.
i didn't really like the "one silencer per mission" thing used up your silencer durability on helmets? too bad, bitch, you're loud now
One silencer per mission encouraged me to use CQC most of the time, which is pretty badass.

The move and shoot in PW is nice though - it actually makes corner shots feasible, as opposed to the previous games where most of the time you ended up revealing yourself - but it's not overdone to the extent you could play the game as an FPS. Also, fuck that tank battle. Took me a fair few tries, mainly because it takes ages for the commander to pop his bloody head out and I didn't realise that one of train carriages (or at least it just seemed to be the one) doesn't keep being shot backwards.
vehicle battles in general are bullshit, especially if you're trying non-lethal when i got up to the helicopter i just said "fuck it" and switched my weapons to m60/rpg-2 did i mention i hate helmets
I think I'm going to pick up a PSP, How well is peace walker and portable ops on the PSP? I would get a Vita but no MGS for it :(
Uh, both the mgs HD edition and peace walker are on the vita, along with (iirc) metal gear solid.

Then use an assault rifle until the commander pops out/the glass shatters. I got like 10 hinds in 2 hours.

The only downside is my medbay is now full of horrifically injured soldiers.

The soldiers don't have horrible wounds when they turn to your side either.

I guess the beauty with PW is that you can rerun the mission.
You don't even have to CQC them. Just point a gun behind them with the smoke, they get on the ground, fulton them.
Yeah, but a CQC chain is quicker than holding up 4 guys.
