Super Technology along with slight paranormality was always a factor in MGS.
Deal. With. It.
Goddammit, every time I see that thread I feel bad that I still haven't managed to pass that fucking torture scene in PW. Seriously, fuck that. I hope there isn't one in Ground Zeroes.
Seriously, just button mash the hell out of it.
I had to get my mother to do that part for me.
Seriously, just button mash the hell out of it.
That's the problem, I can't button mash fast enough. I hate shit like that because it doesn't actually depend on the player's skill. I'd understand if it was a balls-hard stealth section or something, even if I had to replay it over and over to master it, because it'd actually be a legitimate challenge.
Try taking a really slick cloth and run your finger back between square and triangle really fast. Also to those who complained about the torture part in MGS4, All you have to do is make it before the cutscene above you finishes. So you don't have to really button mash it like you would in MGS1, its just a standard "TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP TAP"

Try using your index finger and using your whole hand to tap.
I remember MGS1 being the most difficult on Hard. I got by with like [--______________ ] Health and it was the best feeling in the world.

Its not that hard.
Guys I'm playing MGS1 again, since the first time I played I was only 8 years old :v: back on my PSX, so I couldn't understand jack shit, not only because I was a kid, but because I didn't know English yet, of course. I'm quite liking it so far, I say they have done a fucking good job with it, since it's on the PS1, it's actually playable and it has aged quite well.
I'm currently stuck though, I killed revolver ocelot, now what? I grabbed the cardboard box, the mine detector thing and it seems that I have to call Meryl, but how do I do that?

Call Campbell a few times and see what he has to say.
You call her by her frequency, its 140.15
You call her by her frequency, its 140.15
Aw yeah, that's it, thanks, if I kept talking to Campbell, would he say something about it? Thanks!
How long is this game? Also, how should I play MGS2 if I don't have a PS2?
You call her by her frequency, its 140.15
Noooo, you're supposed to him to look on the back of the box!

The game is about 8-10 hours if it's your first time. If you want to play mgs2 and 3 and if you have an xbox or ps3, you can get the HD collection.
Lol, it was funny when I was little. I kept trying to look at the CD President Baker gave me, then my dad came in and hes like "Did you look at the game case?" Also at 6 years old, I was a bad ass at MGS1. sneaking by peeps, taking out MERTER GEEEER.

Tried that, didn't work. Maybe it's just because I have weak nerd wrists? :v:

Snake: "So about those dogs...." Para-Medic: "SNAKE!!!"
A funnier part is well, the Secret Theater/Theatre. She gets angry for [sp]Snake thinking about eating a horse, and The Boss acting like a train for some reason.[/sp]
How do you access it anyways, beat the game?

Yeah I thought that's what he meant too. I was getting frustrated and then I looked at the back of the actual CD case... 7 year old mindblown

Yes it actually does :v:
Theres even a world recordist for that.
Edit: Also if you play that mission in coop you can get saved before it gets hard.
metal gear solid is the goofiest fucking game series and if you think otherwise you're just wrong, lol. ghosts, magic, conspiracy, ridiculous dialogue, METAL GEAR?, etc etc. I've only played MGS1/2 (gonna start 3 in a few weeks); MGS1 and MGS2 both kept me extremely interested in the plot. Yeah, the bosses were more interesting in MGS1 - but it's hard to follow up on them. Fighting Psycho Mantis is one of the most awesome boss battles I've ever done, but so was the final fight against the Metal Gears & Solidus.
Raiden is not as badass as Snake but he is a shitload more interesting than him. The relationship between Jack & Rose is developed pretty well (albeit a bit mushy at times, but hey, that's what MGS is about - extremes) and Jack's backstory is really interesting. I also think that the Big Shell incident was more interesting than most of Shadow Moses - both the SS3 plan and the conspiracy behind it.
the whole thing plays a shitload better than MGS1, the behind the scenes story is much more engaging. But I'd agree that MGS1 "feels" better in some respects, ie FOXDIE & Spirit Wolf, etc. I definitely missed the long, drawn out melodramatic monologues about war. those were cool.
Play MGS3, it's a whole lot less goofy. It still has some of the weird shit obviously, like the bee man and the fear, but most of the game is a lot less wacky.
[editline]10th September 2012[/editline]
3 is goofier, it has ghosts, magic, conspiracy, spooky skeletons, bees, kabuki facepaint in a water fountain, eva eating all of your food because her stomach is leaking all of the food back out, KUWABARA KUWABARA, raikov, and the bosses are generally just really hilarious
Dude 3 isn't goofier than 2.
I had this exact same bloody argument with a friend a week ago.
the bosses in metal gear are supposed to be retarded as hell
everything else is pretty realistic

2 was actually meant to be crazier than any game in the series. I'd say 3, PW and Portable Ops are the least silly games.
So i was so close to beating the FUCKING TORTURE SCENE and my controller disconnects
words cannot justify how pissed off i am right now.
Metal Gear Solid is specific, because it's really weird and goofy when you look at it, but when you play it you take it serious as fuck and you feel engaged, while still maintaining all the goofy crap and accent of comedy. That's amazingly hard to achieve in a game.
peace walker has incredibly advanced combat ais in the 70s that sing procedurally generated music as they attack people
Here we go again folks!
Anachronism is a staple of the series and again, even though you're pointing out some of the "wacky" elements it's still one of the least bizarre games of the series. Just because it's not 100% full of hyper realistic elements does not mean it's instantly as crazy as the rest of the games.
peace walker has incredibly advanced combat ais in the 70s that sing procedurally generated music as they attack people
Does it really matter though? It's still way less than MGS2/4 and it's still an excellent game.
i've given up on fighting the pupa type 2
it's not even a hard fight, it's just that using all the ammo i have for my rpg while wearing battle dress only gets rid of a bar of health if i'm lucky
