MGR isn't canon to actual MGS story at all. If it were I'd probably do a lot more than just express my hate for Raiden.
Oh really? I thought it was that kind of sucks now.
Oh really? I thought it was that kind of sucks now.
How in any way shape or form would it be reasonable and perfectly logical to continue the MGS canon with Raiden of all people?
He means NOTHING. Literally not a fucking thing to the overall story that has been explored in MGS.
Wasn't Reveangence supposed to be about how Raiden saved Sunny?

Yeah I know but I actually like Raiden, I know he was annoying in MGS2 but to me it made sense since he had no idea what was going on and I really liked him in MGS4 even if he was a bit weird so I'd still like to see his story progress in someway.
Wasn't Reveangence supposed to be about how Raiden saved Sunny?
Yeah that was the original idea until Platinum took over.
It's funny because he had a reason to exist in MGS2 whereas in MGS4 he was a walking deus ex machina thrown in for the sake of it.
He himself was whiny in MGS2 but at least he stood for something symbolically whereas in MGS4 it's just LOOK AT HOW COOL I AM and nothing else.
He was the lightning in the rain though. So much importance.

Yeah and the whole "You protected me snake, now let me protect you!" or something was kind of weird/gay in a way but he did have some badass parts even if they were unnecessary.
So much animu.

That's the thing, I really didn't find him badass at all because he just came off as a massive try-hard. The only reason he could even do half that shit is because of mega-nanomachines and a cyborg body. Snake did everything through pure skill and wit.
am I the only one that loves the trailer?
whish there was a PC version
I've heard a few people saying MGR isn't canon, but do you have a single quote to back that up?

Platinum seems to have something against clothing. First hair and now 10 pairs of mechanical arms with hands covering the adult parts.
They took a survey of PW a year back (presumably in regards to GZ development) one of the options for "What aspects didn't you like about Peace Walker?" was Zardonov search missions
Those really were the most pointless missions ever devised.
Do you happen to have a link to that survey?

I wouldnt have minded Raiden as a side character in the same way Meryl was, in that she was part of the story and has 1 mission where shes an NPC who helps you.
But the whole cyborg ninja shit got old after MGS1.

It's gone now but there's articles on it.

That doesn't confirm its non-canon, all they're saying is that it isnt part of the "Solid" series, meaning its not a stealth action game.

Well lets face facts, nothing ties it to the actual MG series or story whatsoever besides Raiden and Metal Gear Ray. A bunch of names and nothing more. It's practically all but confirmed to be non-canon.
Not to mention the Acid series was a spin-off and that wasn't canon in the slightest so what's to say the game IS canon?

Spin off doesn't mean non-canon. Acid contradicted the current series timeline, instead Revengeance follows on from it. Looks pretty canon to me.

Sort of makes the subtitle of 'Tactical Espionage Action/Operations' pointless if it's the SOLID part that determines whether it's a stealth action game or not.

Yeah, but there's no way to see the results of it.

The subtitle isn't pointless because Revengeance is using "Lightning Bolt Action" instead.

It basically says "that stuff happened" and that's it. If it ret-cons anything then it's flat out non-canon just like Acid was.
Again, I have to ask what makes this game canon other than names and MINOR acknowledgement that things happened prior? There's very little to tie this into the actual series and very little to support that it's canon.

You just said it yourself, there's very little to tie it into the actual series. That's what a spin-off is, canon or not. There's also very little to support it being non-canon.

What would be the point in it even being canon if it's not going to relate to the past games in any way shape or form beyond names then? I'd class it as non-canon purely for the fact that it has practically nothing to do with any of the MG games beyond the usage of two 'characters'.

The point is it can explore a different direction based on existing series material, like every other spin-off; whether it's a character, theme, event or something else. Like Halo: Reach, that's canon but not part of the main story. Anyway, it's not up to us whether it's canon or not so we'll have to wait for Kojima's word on it.
Reach was already based off a book that ties directly into the main series in many, many ways. That's a far far different thing to just slapping some characters and names into a hack and slash game for the sake of sneaky brand recognition.
We're also better off waiting for the game to come out before Kojima gives a straight answer.

And that book was a spin-off.
It's not how you put it though, originally it was supposed to be a stealth based MGS game, but later developed into what we have now because the initial approach wasn't working.

My point was the whole story, practically everything in Reach was fully cohesive with the rest of the series in every way possible. Rising has two links to the series and as far as I see it that doesn't really count as being canon.
It was still a sword fighting game at heart, the stealth segments were fast-paced and short (hence lightning bolt) but presumably the engine was being shitty and the whole ~YOU CAN CUT ANYTHING~ caused them too much trouble.
Oh man, this OP is nice.
New Revengeance trailer, couldn't be more silly.

I could see them doing one of him during his younger days, or even set around Rhodesia if GZ/MGS5 doesn't cover that.
