#4) They can shoot us and we can't shoot back at the cowards.. again boohoo, you have scouts and Medium tanks to kill us or light us up for your arty and WOT brought back tracers for your arty to counter ours, it's a team game, if the team doesn't work together you usually lose.
I've played a lot of battles as arty, 1400 in the S-51 alone, and some in each of the tier 8 arties and I can tell you when i face a team that knows how to use cover( and I don't mean camp) and how to keep moving, i have a hair pulling game. With a 37.4 sec reload and a long aim time missed shots are torture.
When i say know how to use cover I mean moving from cover to cover, but doing it wisely. If your 6th sense goes off, and your map shows you have no allies in close proximity, you can be fairly sure that you are the only tank lit and moving at that time = pain and or death. More than one tank moving at a time means multiple targets, safety in numbers, yes one of you get hit, but it lowers the chance you will get hit.
keeping on the move..don't sit with your front pointed towards where you think arty is and go forwards and backwards, this is annoying, but doesn't greatly affect our aim if we time it right. Move on angles perpindicular to where you think arty is located. My S-51 for example has a very narrow gun traverse, you drive to the side enough to make me have to move the spg and you just bought yourself another 8-10 secs where i have to let aim settle again, guess what? keep moving and it happens all over again. Yes the GWPanther has awesome gun traverse, but the Big High tier arties don't.
Most of my near misses and direct hits do 300-800 ish points, and most of the high tier tank Destroyers and Heavy tanks hit in that range as well. Yes if I get a great shot side on, or from the rear I can do more, so can they if they rack you. They however are going to shoot 3-4 times while I reload.
As I mentioned earlier, a good game in an SPG at high tier leaves you with damage done equaling what you get in high tier TD's and Heavies, and usually with less kills. If I hit someone and don't get a lucky one shot kill, then usually before i can reload someone else finishes the target off, or the target has found cover.
Just a rant I guess, I just can't seem to get all of the crying. It's like people were just waiting for any bandwagon to appear and jumped on it regardless of what it was about. Oh look, that JPE 100 just hit me for 1100-1400 health, but he isn't an SPG so I can fire back..guess what his next shot is going to do to you?..sigh i'm done, flame me, burn me at the stake I don't care. Half of what i said prob doesn't make sense, but neither does the arty hate. Alright, as much as I enjoy playing the VK2801, the cost of running it is pretty damn high due to my fondness of emptying HEAT rounds into the backsides of IS-3s.
Would the M24 Chaffee be worth getting, too? Just as a fun little scout/pest that can prey on wounded enemies.
