I don't have a T34 so I can't really compare. I'm saying that until you get the L1A1 on the Conquerer, you're stuck with a gun that does 230 damage and 220 penetration at a tier where most guns are doing twice that damage with around ~300 penetration. Not to mention how much more armored and sloped tier 9+ tanks are compared to tier 8s.

It's still a good gun, it fires faster and has better aiming time. It's obviously not as good without the 120 but it still is a really good tank.

The aim time is great and it's even more agile than the old T34. Just feels like you're armed with a stiletto in a sword fight. T34 stock grind felt like being armed with a chicken drumstick.

Patch notes a while back said the FV215b will be kept as the tier 10 heavy, and the FV215 (183) will be introduced as the tier 10 TD.

It also got an armor fix at some point as well. It now bounces sometimes compared to never.

The conqueror when fully upgraded is an amazing tank. In fact, were it not for the slightly lower ROF (5.71 compared to 6) it would beat the T110E5 in a gunnery role. As is, its low aim time, low dispersion and excellent accuracy, makes it an incredible damage dealer.

Thing is that the lower tiers weren't really unarnored at all. The armor is sorta WEIRD to get used to, but good! You have to angle a lot and hulldown in BP but they are definitely well armored tanks.
Caernarvon is not all that well, but still decently armored.

My father has one and he says despite the stock grind being one of the most painful things he's ever done in the game, the Conquerer is up there now with one of his favorite tanks of all time. All because of the gun. I've played it a couple times on his account. I didn't want one before, but I did after messing with that gun. I've never played a tank with a gun like that. (i.e. any good tanks)

That's because all the early heavy tanks are based around the outdated idea of an "infantry tank." Which is a heavily armored behemoth that didn't have to be fast because it was just a mobile gun to support infantry. The Caernarvon is the point in the tree where they lose that old doctrine and go with what everybody else was doing.

The conqueror has the same armor as the caernarvon, but the only problem is the guns are far larger. The conqueror does have armor, but it's only really viable at range, when you have something cover your lower hull. Outside that, its best to play as you have little. It can bounce the odd shell or two, even from the highest penetration guns. Just don't rely on it to save you.

I'd go as far to say the 120mm on the conqueror, relative to its tier (at tier 9), is the best gun in the game.
