Well they certainly don't need to scrape *every* page to get moderately good statistics, but it's not at all unfeasible to scrape literally every player page.
You can scrape usernames on the player accounts page by iterating through every three character combination, and then scraping the resulting search pages. That's only 17526 combinations (somewhere in the range of 130,000 search results). If it took one second per results page (very pessimistic estimate) that's 130000/60/60/24 seconds ~ 1.5 days. After the data is collected the first time, merely checking for updates would be very fast (relatively).
As for data storage, if each user has 1KB of data (again, VERY pessimistic), 3M users * 1KB = 3GB. Not bad at all. Also, a huge number of users have 0 battles played, so their data can be pretty much ignored.

Okay then I guess I can assume the total vehicles # is correct. That'd mean that just placing ace tanker on any tier 5+ chinese vehicle = gold due to population count

Alright, I finally got around to uploading a video of my panzer II getting two whole magazines of ghost rounds. This should be some of the most damning footage out there for the ghost shell problem.

Also, I was using premium rounds because my team was getting steamrolled and I wanted to try and cut my way into the base faster.
Which tier 5 American Premium? T14 or Ram 2? Thinking about buying one when I get gold.
Most people here will say T14 but I have a soft spot for the Ram.

Yeah pretty much what allows me to play this game most days. Tribes and Freelancer stand out as two games I had an especially hard time mastering... holy shit the fits of rage I had. Now I get one-shotted by arty and the worst I do is just leave the game and play something else. No point being mad over a game.
Still, arty in its current form is a shit mechanic and I totally understand the rage.

What would you guys recommend as first skills for
A) a French light tank crew, and
B) a T1E6 crew?

Then I get a round of extremely poor accuracy. I was less then 100m from a artillery, not moving max accuracy. Every shot went to the edge of the circle, completely missing the artillery for 3 shots. He killed me.
Can someone please tell me how to play KV-3? Seriously, it's like I am driving a tank completely different from what everyone got. It's slow, gets stuck easily, and is soaked in gasoline. And hulling down is impossible, because your hull is the size of a [del]Battleship[/del] TOGII*.
I found it one of the easier (and least "sophisticated") tanks to play. It's possible that gold rounds have completely ruined it...? Otherwise, it's just tank fundamentals. Angling, positioning, peak a boom etc.

The tracks are made of magic and Russian bias, so just angle so your front hull has a nice angle, but not so much that they can actually pen the sides.

The KV-3 is, as hilarious as it may seem, rather fast for 70 tons of fuck you with a 750 HP engine.
I played it back when it faced IS-4s all day erry' day right after the Soviet tree change and it fucking [B]raped[/B] everything. Having Tier 10 tanks dinging off your mantlet while you're penetrating their turret roof is the best thing ever. T7 and 8 battles were also a breeze since I could just hump corners and watch them ding off my critically angled sides and dingtanium turret.
Except that I have it almost elited, with just 5k away from the KV-4. I keep getting penned. Including my turret. I only remember dinging anything ONCE.
And not have CO2's mean that a single shot will set you on fire.

I'm planning on taking a break until the 8.4 test comes, fuck this games shitty balance and community.
I dunno, I just ground through Black Prince which, with it's 20km/h top speed and lowest alpha gun ever definitely is not a gun nor a speed tank, and it's armor is almost it's only redeeming factor, and while the prem ammo definitely made it slightly annoying at times, I felt more glad I can shoot some myself than frustrated that it's being shot at me.

Although gold rounds flying about in heavier tanks is annoying, I find it far more annoying to not be able to do any sort of damage to higher tiers in some tanks with bad penetration values (especially when grinding through stock modules and shit tanks)
Yes, I know, it kinda screws up balance and heavier tanks were effectively nerfed by credit gold. But on the other hand, World of Tanks is a [i]game[/i] - just sitting there unable to do any significant damage to anything without putting yourself at disproportionate risk for little benefit isn't fun gameplay.
After all, the [i]entire premise[/i] of the tier spread is to let some players occasionally have an advantage anyway - so I'd gladly take the nerf to heavier tanks if it means that I can be helpful to my team 100% of the time instead of being nigh useless target practice in some matchups.
