fucking FUCK
I would agree Tier 8 is the "core" gameplay with most armor effect and most tactics, but I wouldn't entirely diss tier 10 either.
Mainly since the arty nerf it ain't bad at all.
I've so far enjoyed playing tier 10 in my IS-4, since it doesn't seem to be much of a target for arty, and even if they do hit right next to me, 160mm of armor and thick soviet tracks eat up a LOT of splash damage. The cap and nerf make it bearable.
As for tier 8, it's nice, but fuck all the retards who buy gold tanks and can't play for shit. Tier 9 is great, since you have a great chance of facing a lot of tier 8 tanks due to how popular that tier is.
it still scares me how much shit this tank can take

Seriously, don't get the JPE. I went against everyones advice here, even Orkel's, and wasted my XP, time, and money on the JPE. I sold my JagdTiger like a fucking idiot, retrained my crews, and bought the pile of trash that is the JPE. It is slow, it is massive, it is innacurate, it doesn't pen well, and it is a massive arty magnet-brick. The chance of 1,000+ dmg hits does not counter balance all of it's other shit features. Do not waste your time on the JPE, stop at the JT and start another line

If he's considering going all the way to tier 9/10, I'd suggest trying the French TD line. Once they hit tier 8 they get pretty damn amazing, being as fast as medium tanks and with troll-tier frontal armor. The 120mm gun is excellent, and the tier 10 with its 3 round autoloader and 155mm gun allows for some terrifyingly high bursts of damage.
Only thing that pisses me off about them is how arty can absolutely ruin your day due to the low health and very small amount of side armor.
Can someone post a link to that thing where WG said that only the first 3 tanks in the cap circle actually get the capture points?

That feel when not even your T110E5 can beat the KV-5 in raw damage output

Himmelsdorf encounter, "EVERYONE GO HILL GUYS!"
Few minutes later they all died, leaving me to finish up the work in the city.

I really regret not having bought the Chaffee way earlier, shit is good.
Also anyone got an idea of what equipment I should get for it?

If you're using it for an aggressive little beasty, then vents/rammer/vstab. Otherwise, I'd say vents/binocs/camo net.
So Jagdpanzer IV.
I've got everything researched other than the Jagdpanther and the 88mm.
Is it worth getting the 88mm, or should I just head straight onto the JP?
This damn game sucked me in again.

Regardless of what you take, take the vertical stabilizer. It is like the easy 8. When it is the only tier 5 light that can take one, do not pass up the opportunity.
If you are aggressive with it, vents and a rammer beyond this. If you are more scout-y, optics and vents. Both the camo net and binoculars can be somewhat negated by skills, and you leave the spots open for other equipment. I have a 465mm view range with mine even on the move, and the camo skill (which works on the move and you'll never need the camo net) for general purpose. Everytime, I spot them before they spot me should they be moving or in the open. I'd toss the vents on as the final scouting equipment, as it improves every aspect of the tank.
Face hugged a IS-7 in the IS-3 and won. That should not happen.

You will need the 88mm to get the better one on the Jagdpanther, you might as well get it now.

Problem is that I keep mixing between scouting and being a pseudo medium.
Think i'll go with the agressive loadout once I get some skills on my crews.
I saw an IS-3 with the BL-9 firing HE at T7s a match or two ago. I guess that explains why is eff was ~400.
SU-8.
Super Pershing.
One shot.
1000 damage.
Dead loader and driver.
Fair and Balanced.

Conqueror.
One shot thirty seconds into the game.
1900 damage.
Dead loader and gunner, and damaged ammo rack and engine.
Fucking fair and balanced.

And as someone told Beaver and Ordo, arty requires lots of practice and skill. There is no such thing as luck.
(take a guess what they both got utterly fucked by)
I'm feeling like this game is a lot more about fighting with what you can and can't see than the actual tank combat itself, because in tier 2 and 3 at least, it's been:
-Shoot tank in front of you, miss/bounce on fully focused green reticule and get killed 2 seconds later either by the tank you're looking at or another one you can't see that had a shot to your side
-Shoot tank in front of you, hit for minor damage because your gun's accuracy is shit and you really can't control where your shot is going to land, hope you can land more hits before he gets any shots on you
-Shoot tank in front of you, it disappears as you are actively trying to destroy it and get hit by numerous other invisible tanks.
And on the co-ordination side of things, it's:
-Follow teammates, get killed at the first engagement
-Follow teammates, they all get killed, you die from numerous invisible tanks shooting at you.
I've also tried the whole camouflage thing when I was dabbling as artillery, I was pretty confused when I got sniped through a house-sized bunch of bushes with no nearby targets. I ended up just not caring about how visible I was and ended up doing better the majority of the time.
And with tanks I've tried to do the whole "use the terrain to your advantage/angle your tank for a higher chance to bounce shots" thing, and it hasn't really helped me much even in 1v1 engagements since they almost never seem to give me the chance to use them to any effectiveness.
I was having fun in Tier 1 and 2 since I was actually doing decent and playing strategically, but now I'm just cycling through every vehicle I have, sometimes doing reasonable damage but never finishing anyone so I can't really progress without playing for hours on end.
I really want to like this game, but this is the experience I'm getting and almost everything I've read so far makes it sound like things only get worse the further I progress.

This indicator only counts raw value of the armor not slope
Also angling is pretty useless at tier 1/2 except with a few select tanks.

Yeah, I eventually figured that out. Also good to know I don't have to worry so much about how my tank is faced as much, yet.
I love it when I give legit advice to someone, then their platoonmates start going LOL NO ONE ASKED YOU SHIT CLAN SHIT PLAYER LOL.
Then I watch as the T-54 who decided to sit still on the cap almost get instagibbed by arty. My advice? 'keep moving on cap, dude'.
Got a weird case of the new tank fever. Just got the VK4502A and I like it quite a bit, played 12 matches so far, things fun and plays well. But my no matter how well I play my team doesn't seem to be able to hold its shit together long enough to win at all.
Whenever the hell Himmelsdorf 500 wants to be done, I'll be glad for it.
Shit teams every night since Friday, I can feel my winrate dropping.
I'm gonna wait to play until the new British TDs come out so I can get an AT-2 and fucking destroy everyone, unfortunately, anyone with a brain will also be doing the same thing... Hordes of AT-2s, murdering everything and in the end being unable to kill eachother. Yes...

You would be surprised how few people in this game have brains.
