I posted a picture of a WoT ad in Liverpool Street Station in the last thread.

Also there have been quite a few WoT ads on Youtube now.

Seeing how the community uses "unicum" for high ranked players, it doesn't really surprise me.

Unicum (plural unica)
A unique example or specimen of something
It's Latin apparently.

I always thought it was something dirty invented by the MLP society.
it is indeed latin
nominative singular of 'unicus'
tl;dr it means one
3 man TOG platoon are giant piñatas that attract your entire team. And then the enemy flanks them. And kills everyone.
Also, a waste of KV-2's shots, since I've only managed to do little (~300 damage per shot) damage to them.
I bought the TOG last night and platooned with 2 other TOGs, oh my god that was so awesome. Just imagine 240 tons of not giving a fuck slowly rolling over everything in its path.
This is about how my whole night has been going.

Quick question, I've seen the term "over-hanging gun" regarding the Panther and the T-34. What does that mean exactly? The fact that the gun reaches further than the front part of the hull?
I'm not quite sure I understand the use of the word in the context of gun and the different tanks.
Regarding the T-34 design.
...second was the wide track and large road wheels which improved stability; and third was the long over-hanging gun, a feature German designers had avoided up to then
Regarding the Panter.
If the over-hanging gun and sloping armour are ignored the Panther is a conventional German design,
I've never heard that term before. Also, just about every tank T7 and above has a gun longer than the hull.

I get the feel thats just a coincidence and that you're overestimating the wot community.
The fact that the gun reaches further than the front part of the hull?
Well that's exactly what it is.
Most nations tried to avoid it since when going over really rough terrain the barrel could get stuck in the ground and break/get stuffed with dirt (and guess what happens when you fire a blocked gun) and generally do bad things to the tank.
The Panther's gun overhang wasn't that bad, the T-34's either (well, unless it's the T-34/85 he's talking about but the time period suggests otherwise).
Also that guy seems to ignore the fact the StuG III had a rather small gun overhang as early as 1942.

Yeah, it's just to the right of that fruit and veg vendor in there.
Why do so many of the artyfags on WoT forums seem to think that arty was the king of the battlefield? Arty was pretty useless against tanks, at least as an indirect fire weapon. You would get the occasional kill/disable, but aside from pretty close shots, stationary weapons and defences like artillery were what tanks were made to counter (except for WW2 USA - lol infantry support doctrine)
Just got my first Heavy tank.
Ooooh, it feels good

Yeah, I can remember getting my first heavy tank. Witnessing what a bounce was that wasnt the enemy...such good times.
But it's a B1 so it doesn't count
at least its not a d2

To an extent they are correct, but it is only through target saturation they receive kills, and even then, its mobility kills or tactical kills, not as often catastrophic. They don't seem to understand that the anti tank capability a single artillery displays is equal or surpasses an entire battery of the SPG in real life. They fire a lot of shells. A fucking lot.

There was someone who came into a thread, saying he had served in Desert Storm as a forward observer, calling in artillery. He utterly destroyed the arguments that artillery, on its lonesome, was a viable tank weapon. When they did get a tank kill, it was through sheer volume of fire, not accurately hitting tank with a single shot. In ever situation, there was warning (the screech of the shell) and other shells exploding nearby. Artillery was more of an physiological warfare tool against tanks than a viable weapon. Even aircraft had a negligible impact on armored warfare (note, WW2), despite everyone who would claim otherwise. The accuracy of bombs and rockets was abysmal. Both British and American guns had insufficient penetration to damage tanks (soft targets are a different story). Russian guns were a different story, but even then they had a negligable impact.
Everyone loves picture though and that's where the problems begin. An artillery shell through kinetic energy alone has enough power to ruin any tank. If it hits. There in lies the problem. Only if you hit. All those pictures of tanks knocked out by artillery, notice how many craters are around the tank. Its not like a single one was fired. With flight time reaching up and over 10-20 seconds, if a tank is moving, it is entirely luck if you hit it. So they take these pictures and run with them as proof.

The ST-I feels like such a hipster tank: not many people recognize it, and I even get someone asking every couple of matches what it is.
It's a damn good tank, is what it is.

I enjoyed the KV-4. It's like a slower KV-5 without the weak spots and with a better gun. Due to tier 8 heavy tank matchmaking, it rarely enters tier 10 battles, too.
