Well I got to the Summer house scene with Lilly and NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY EVERYONE HATES HER WRITING. Well, as they used to say about Shizune; "Best character, worst arc".

I do not think either of those things are true. From a literary standpoint Lilly's arc was absolutely awful. It gave me feels, so to speak, but it was literally the most cliche thing I've ever seen in a visual novel. Like, the minute Hisao went "I'm an idiot" after Lilly left with Akira I knew there was absolutely no way he wouldn't chase after her and either die or almost die. Because, like, that's literally the only way it could have gone. In the neutral end he just says 'fuck it' and goes to bed, which is basically his only other option given the situation. And the thing with the music box was great and all but it just felt so "HERE'S YOUR OBLIGATORY HAMFISTED HAPPY ENDING, GOOD JOB CHAMP" to me. Shizune's route was not as well written as the rest of them, and I think the bajillion side characters only distracted from the real underlying plot (the fact that Hisao fucked up Shizune and Misha's dynamic by coming into their group and basically ruined Misha's life for a good while), and if A22 had cared more about the project, it would have gone better. I also don't think Shizune's the best girl (that honor belongs to miss Misha in my book) but that's just my opinion.

ha i still recall how the scene where hisao wakes up in the hospital after his first heart attack at the beginning of the game left me with my mouth hanging wide open, the terribly fucking sad setting and music was just so amazingly gut wrenching

Yes, they are worth it. Some more than others but generally yes. It's hard to elaborate on the routes without spoiling or creating expectations.
