Wow, read those alternative Hanako scripts. It's like they were trying really really really really really really really hard to make you feel depressed as fuck, and wasn't really all that well written on top of that.

Hanako's original route is pretty much like my old fanfics in that all kinds of ridiculous out of left field bad shit happens specifically to have there be conflict. [editline]e[/editline] Kind of like Lilly's route in the finished game.

uh no Rin's route is most definitely what you're describing "oh look at this cute aloof artist oh no now they're dumping heavy shit like suicide and depression and mental instability on me"

Considering Lilly's route resolves every bit of conflict there could be with the scene in the field, then the part about her leaving for Scotland comes immediately when the story starts to slow down with the flimsy excuse of "I just wasn't telling you before" (in A Faraway Future specifically), I politely disagree. In the coming scenes Lilly's motives are explained but they all boil down to stuff Hisao already knows about her by that point. The excuse she gives is flimsy because, as Hisao says during the scene, he was already aware that her family wanted her to come back for good as she told him when she left for a week or so earlier in the route. That's why it comes back as nothing more than a plot device: because both characters already knew it was coming and instead of a resolution to an earlier discussion, it comes back as a conflict because there isn't any left.

Rin's arc? Da fuq?" but then I remembered the Picasso story. [sp]That was more to help Hisao understand that there's no real concrete way to interpret what an artist was thinking when they painted a particular piece, and only further emphasizes the fact that communicating with Rin is exceptionally difficult and will likely never become easy (this is the primary source of conflict in her arc). Another good example would be some of Chopin's works, where if you just listened to his melodies on piano, you'd have never guessed that he was depressed as all get-out when he made it. Whew! I found a keeper after-all!"

Lilly's twelve h-scenes are worth the monotony of Hisao going "Lilly looks calm and nonchalant. I wonder what she is thinking about. Surely it couldn't be anything bad. Oh well." over and over again in the meantime.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I loved all of the routes including Misha's I Mean Shizune's. It's just, now that it's been a year, I'm starting to see the holes in 4Leaf's writing. It's a real pity that part one is unavailable, but from what I read in that reddit thread (are they "threads" or something else on reddit?), the Shizune route there sounds like it'd be fascinating.

shizune route alpha was twice as dramatic for no good reason and misha dies which makes it objectively the worst, so I'm pretty glad a22 rewrote it
