The first time I played I picked what I would say in real life and got the Kenji ending. Then I looked at the flowchart to get Hanako's good ending because that's what I was trying to get.

Emi has an easily achieved storyline, and if you know nothing about the game and just happen to be first-timing with no flowcharts, it is heartwrenching until you do the other arcs.

The last-chance choice you get at the end of Act 1 that puts you on Emi's storyline is basically the game's way of saying "You pretty much messed up with everyone else so we'll grant you a boon here, please don't end up with Kenji!" Unless you make the choices that get her early on. I'm fine with that though, because most Hisaos will go "well the nurse said to work hard so fuck the world I'm gonna work hard" anyway.
