Yeah...that went horribly wrong. I spent the entire day gathering like a madman. Went down into the pit and got surrounded by creepers. Checked my recordings, I had left Stereo Mix muted, so no sound :smithicide:
Entire day crafting, planning, gathering.
Get killed 2 minutes in.

I survived for two minutes... on peaceful.
I'm uploading mine, I accidently forgot to change the difficulty at the beginning to hard, so theres no monsters right when I enter. I'll probably make another attempt.

My sound card broke. So I can only do the challenge with no sound.

I just attempted this. I obtained about 3 stacks of planks, 5 porkchops, and 32 saplings before nightfall. I go into the cave, using my furnace as a light source, I go to put another porkchop in the furnace and I die from a creeper.

Too bad you used torches. Main reason you cant is that it stops mobs from spawning. Also its not that hard, once you get your bearing and a bucket you place lava and win.
This gets MUCH easier once you gt to the nether and find some netherack.
Gather tons of wood
Gather tons of sand and cacti
Make a few tools
Enter Cave
10 creepers at bottom
Die
Gather large amounts wood & sand.
Make a few stone tools.
Gather seeds, saplings, cacti, reeds.
Open sinkhole.
Go down waterslide doom.
Swim to nearest light source.
Bunker down like a boss.
Gather ores
Make buckets
Make more tools
Continue until you reach the nether.
Use netherack & F&S to light everything.

I think nether should be the "Win" Condition, since you can use it to get back to the surface.

The most important thing that people will forget is to collect sand before going down, it's the only material you can't find underground and it is needed for glass, which is a lifesaver when using lava for light.

You can also only put cacti on sand.
I did something like this before. I fell in a hole and got lost in the cave. I planted a sapling and tried to conserve resources.

i punched it open and fell down into it
then i turned around and got exploded by a creeper
