Depends on the situation. He certainly isn't invulnerable as a lot of people think.
Against a single exo suit, the onos should win. But if it's a large open room with alot of marines in it, you're gonna die very quickly. Onos is great at taking out single powerful buildings and enemies, or small groups of marines.
If the Onos has one or two Fades accompanying it, though... God help the marines.
;37854882']How good is the Onos by the way?
I don't really like him
He has these indestructible looks, but he dies really easily
Onos are bullet sponges. They are a big, slow target and possess the greatest threat, resulting eveyone focusing fire on it. An effective Onos requies a Gorge.
You mean Gorges?
Oh, how could I forget Gorges. That too. BUt an Onos and two Fades bursting into the base... Maybe add a Lerk farting all over everything for good measure. Oh god, the horror.
THE HORROR
Haha, I just watched the BlindNS tournament, and Archea is officially a bunch of whiners.
Duplex had an onos that was playing well and totally denying them access into one of their hives, and killing them time after time, and at the end of the matches they were like something like this
Caster: The other team had some great onos play, Im sure you have to agree with that atleast?
Archea Whiner: No, I dont have to agree. Onos is generally very easy to play and requires almost no skill at all blablabla continues to whine and bitch.
And they cried that they lost 2 matches, but they won the coup. Fucking babies.
They also won the tournament by a base rush, they were mad that they lost to a base rush in one of their matches, so they decided to pay back.
Base rushing is a very cheap tactic imo.
I spoke to one of the devs today. The modding possibilities sound amazing. No compile for maps, game is open source. It's Source but better!
Is there any information on AI/Bots?
You mean fade
Oh damn, what a stupid mistake. Keep forgetting that one.
Currently the most frustrating part of the game. Having a possibly fun game get ruined after 5 minutes because they rush the hive, start killing eggs, with my team spread all over the map and no one coming back. Then next game starts up and teams get stacked to whoever rushed.
what i think i dislike the most about this game is that it's near impossible to end a game, crushing victories are stretched for so long like you'll have every techpoint on the map as alien and it will still take 20 minutes to take down the marine main base
Also, do alien "upgrades" (carapace and stuff) still cost nothing? I hate that.
It used to be like that for a long time in the Beta. It costed maybe 1-3 res per upgrade if I remember. Honestly I never liked it because by the time you get a set of upgrades, you would have spent an extra 5-8 res, which actually is a big deal when saving up for a lifeform. Not to mention you would spent a lot of time as a skulk if you wanted upgrades, because you would still die a lot, but never have any resource growth. I guess the devs didn't like it either because upgrades are now free to evolve.
Is there any information on AI/Bots?
The devs don't really have the time to code bots. There are a couple people on the forums making some bots, but all that we have really seen from them are synchronized dances with rave flashlights.

It's nothing like Source. If a game isn't modifiable it isn't the engine's fault.

What?
I should have probably qualified that I spoke to him about their engine, Spark. Spark's like Source, but better!
Love having games (usually when playing aliens) where I feel like I'm losing so bad. Then all of a sudden we have a couple of Onos stampeding through the map and all of a sudden we win.

Had one of those games. As aliens we were backed into a corner with one hive, so our comm puts a hive on the opposite side of the map and sends one or two to defend while we shore up a defense. Then he drops an Onos egg, someone else goes Onos, I'm gorge, and there are a couple fades as well. We burst through their seige and rush the power node while the marines are focused on killing the mostly undefended bait hive clear across the map. We won with me bile bombing the comm chair :v:
Still not seen an Exo vs Onos though. Straight after that game, I had a game as marines that was really fun, we were all team working well and everyone was communicating. Near the end we got two exos and two people with welders for each exo, just wandering around wrecking up shit. Then we lost our commander right near the end and didn't realise, so we were just sat around doing nothing for quite a while before we just walked into their last hive and killed it. Not much of a defence from the aliens.
Dual chaingun Exo's grind apart Onos, dunno about standard Exo.
Having been actually modding for NS2, I can safely say it is much easier to mod for Spark than it is to mod for Source. The builder tool can automatically compile everything as things change. Not to mention any changes to code are immediately shown in game when the file is safed. Hot loading is totally awesome for modding.
Is there any specific day this month for when it comes out?
Is there any specific day this month for when it comes out?
No.
However, if you add to cart, it says October 30th, but that is not an actual announced released date.
My guess is the last day, 31st...which is Halloween and the 10th anniversary for NS1. Seems a fitting date, imo.
The dev I spoke to said they had a date, but it was yet to be announced.
It was October though!
I'll probably buy it in a few days time, if not tomorrow.
Shame we can't get into the beta anymore, but it's less than a month to wait anyway...

Wow it's been 10 years already? Kind of wonder if someone will mod a combat mode into the game like NS1.

There is already a combat mod out there. Check around in the server list for maps like ns2_co_whatever
is the price going to go up after launch or will it stay at $25?
